CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL (Watchtower Founder)

THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT CHARLES T. RUSSELL

CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL
(February 16, 1852 - October 31, 1916)

RUSSELL’S ADVENTIST INFLUENCES:

William Miller (1782-1849)--American Baptist preacher. Followers called "Millerites". Began Adventist movement in 1830s. David Koresh (Waco, TX) also influenced by Millerite doctrine.

Jonas Wendell (1815-1873)--Adventist preacher, taught 1874 date of Christ’s return.

Nelson H. Barbour (1824-1908, NY)--Millerite Adventist taught that the rapture would occur in April, 1878. Paired up with Russell 1876-1881. Influenced Russell by teaching an invisible return of Christ. Split over differences after failed prophecy of Christ’s return in 1844 and debate over Christ’s ransom.

SOME STRANGE TEACHINGS OF C. T. RUSSELL

Pyramidology--John Taylor & Chas. Piazzi Smyth--early pyramidologists who made calculations based on the architecture of the Pyramid at Gaza. These theories were integrated into the prophecies of Russell, later denounced by his successor, Joseph F. Rutherford.

God was said to reside upon and rule from the star Alcyone, within the star cluster Pleiades, which is part of the Small Dipper.

Truth: "A truth presented by Satan himself is just as true as a truth stated by God. . . . Accept
truth wherever you find it, no matter what it contradicts" (WT 7/1879, pp. 8-9).
Lying to people you consider to be God’s enemies is justifiable as theocratic "war strategy". (WT 6/1/1960, p. 352).

Phrenology--Russell believed that a person’s desire to worship God is based on the shape of his brain.

TERMS USED BY C. T. RUSSELL WITH OCCULT ROOTS

"Millennial Dawn" (title later changed to, "Studies in the Scriptures")--A series of 6 volumes published by Russell in 1886.

"Golden Age" magazine published by Russell in 1919. Later renamed "Consolation" (1937), and then "Awake!" (1946).

* Both terms reflect the influence of "The (Hermetic Order of) the Golden Dawn"--magical/religious movement, who’s most renowned member was Aleister Crowley*, world’s most famous occultist.

"Watchtower"--The "Guardians of the Watchtower" were the spirits of the 4 elements used in Enochian ceremonial magic. These elements are invoked during ritual as protectors & advisors.

"New World" Translation--as in "New World" Order??? Incidentally, The "Golden Age" is said to be the obsolete term for New World Order.
* FURTHER NOTES ON ALEISTER CROWLEY (1875-1947)--Famous English occultist who also claimed to be a Freemason. Crowley was an influential member in several occult organizations beside the Golden Dawn. He is the best known occultist in the world and is responsible for bringing into the mainstream much of what has become the western occult movement. He was often referred to as the "wickedest man in the world". He shared membership in the Golden Dawn with famous Irish occult writer William Butler Yeats, who was also a good friend of Charles Taze Russell. It is apparent, therefore that Russell and Crowley travelled in the same circles and must have known one another.

BELIEF IN "ANGELIC MESSENGERS" HAS OCCULTIC ROOTS

ENOCHIAN MAGIC--" . . . based on the 16th century writings of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelly, who claimed that their information was delivered to them directly by an angel." Later, it was rediscovered and integrated into the Golden Dawn and brought into the arena of modern occultism by Aleister Crowley. (Wikipedia.org)

The writings of both Joseph Smith, Mormon founder, and Russell were said to have also come about through angelic messengers. "Angels hear the instructions and then pass it on to the remnant; they have been doing so since 1919", Russell said. (Vindication, V. 3, p.250)
Furthermore, for many years the JWs have used Johannes Gerber’s translation of the Scriptures, even though it was well known that Gerber claimed that spirits "helped him in his translation" (WT 2/15/1956, pp. 110-11). As late as 1976, Gerber was still being cited in WTS books and articles--long after his spiritistic practices came to light. In fact, it was not revealed, and Gerber was not renounced by the WTS, until a Watchtower article in 1983. (April 1, p. 31)

BELIEF THAT CHRIST IS MICHAEL THE ARCH-ANGEL IS ALSO A BELIEF HELD BY FOLLOWERS OF SATANISM:

In his book, "Satan, Prince of This World", William Guy Carr gives us a glimpse into the teachings and practices inherent in the Satanic Black Mass. He says, "Adepts are taught that Satan is the eldest son of God (Adonay) and the brother of St. Michael. The Luciferian dogma teaches that St. Michael, the archangel is one and the same celestial being as Jesus Christ and states that God (Adonay) sent St. Michael to earth in the form of Jesus Christ in order that he could halt the Luciferian conspiracy on this earth. . ." The WTS, too, has taught from the beginning that Jesus was Michael the Arch-angel, before he was sent to earth by Jehovah.

Another ritual that is part of the Satanic Black Mass is the rejection of Christ's body and blood (his atoning work on the cross). The host is passed around as it is in the Christian Communion observance, but no one partakes, therefore showing their rejection. At the Jehovah's Witnesses' annual "Memorial" of Christ's death, the ritual is the same: the host is passed but no one partakes. The WT teaches that only the 144,000 with the heavenly hope are allowed to partake. As it is believed that there are very few of this class left upon the earth, it is not uncommon for the host to be passed through the entire congregation with no one partaking of it, the same as in the Black Mass.

USE OF WINGED SUN DISK EGYPTIAN OCCULT SYMBOL

The "Holy Order of the Winged Disk" is an old magical organization dedicated to hermetic, Cabalistic, Rosicrucian and other occult practices. The symbol originated in Egypt and supposedly demonstrates that there is a seed of truth in every tradition. Obviously, Russell subscribed to this belief, as his teachings involved a blend of mysticism, occult, Adventism, Millenialism, and even Luciferianism. The WT asssembly hall in New York City displays this symbol prominately in its architecture on the face of the building. The building is still in use today.

WAS THE JW FOUNDER A FREEMASON?

WAS CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL A FREEMASON ?

Many sources state that Russell held a Masonic degree, as did his father, and was a Knights Templar, (higher echelon) Mason of York Rite, in Alleghany, PA. He also had a secret Rosicrucian membership with the Quakertown, PA group of Rosicrucians. However, in the quotes below he denies that he is a Mason, in the literal sense. In fact, he seems to indicate that he is more enlightened than the Freemasons.

Was he lying, aka "Theocratic War Strategy"? (Remember, in his own words, it is acceptable to lie to "God’s enemies").

Of course, there is always the possibility that Russell left the Freemasons, taking with him some of the things he had learned and passing them on to own his Bible Students. But, then, why be buried beneath the ostentatious pyramid complete with Freemason imagery?

Here’s what he said, now decide for yourself:

RUSSELL SAID: "I am very glad to have this particular opportunity of saying a word about some of the things in which we agree with our Masonic friends, because we are speaking in a building dedicated to Masonry and we also are Masons. I am a Free Mason. I am a free and accepted Mason, if I may carry the matter to its full length, because that is what our Masonic brethren like to tell us, that they are free and accepted Masons. That is their style of putting it. Now I am a free and accepted Mason. I trust we all are. But not after the style of our Masonic brethren. We have no quarrel with them. I am not going to say a word against Masons, and I can appreciate that there are certain very precious truths that are held in part by our Masonic friends. I have talked to them at times, and they have said, How do you know about all these things? We thought nobody knew anything about these things except those who had access to our very highest logic"--from "The Temple of God", a discourse by Pastor Russell given at the 1913 convention of IBS (see full transcript at http://www.freeminds.org.

RUSSELL ALSO SAID: "Do our Masonic friends understand something about the Temple, and being Knights Templars and so on? We more". --from "The Temple of God", a discourse by Pastor Russell given at the 1913 convention of IBS (see full transcript at www.freeminds.org).

RUSSELL ALSO SAID: "I said that I had been in conference with the Great Master Workman, the Lord himself, and I have secret information through the Holy Spirit and guidance in respect to what the Bible says, and that contains all the truth, I believe on every subject. And so if we talk to our Masonic friends about the Temple and its meaning, and about being good Masons, and about the Great Pyramid, which is the very emblem they use, and what the Great Pyramid signifies, our Masonic friends are astonished....We are going to discuss free and accepted Masonry--the Bible Masonry, my dear friends".--from "The Temple of God", a discourse by Pastor Russell given at the 1913 convention of IBS (see full transcript at http://www.freeminds.org.

* Bolded phrases (emphasized by blog author) are Masonic terms. Elsewhere, in this same discourse, Russell admits to greeting Masons with their own secret handshakes and being able to fluently use their terminology when conversing with them. Typically, only those who belong to the upper echelons of the Free Masons are privy to such information. Theirs is an organization sworn to secrecy, not just to outsiders, but even toward their own lower-ranking members. Why would Russell know these things, if he was not a member of the freemasons?

Chart of Belief Systems with Occult Elements

In my research pertaining to belief systems associated with occult beliefs, I have found that the easiest way to display the connections is in flow-chart format. All of these groups were found to have elements that I was able to trace back to Egyptian Mysticism. Below the chart, is a brief description of each group. All of the research that I did was on-line, so it is easy for anyone to confirm these things. Double click on the graphic to enlarge it for easier viewing. The following definitions will explain some of the terms found in the above information about Watchtower founder, Charles T. Russell:

* EGYPTIAN MYSTICISM--Combines elements of Astronomy, Alchemy, Theurgy (magical rituals to invoke supernatural help), etc.

* HERMETIC ORDERS--Magical/Philosophical/Religious movements stemming from the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus.

* GOLDEN DAWN--Progenitor of all modern western occult movements (astrology, tarot, geomancy, alchemy, etc.)

* ROSICRUCIAN--15th century Hermetic/"Christian" Movement

* "THE SECRET" (The newest rage as seen on Oprah Winfrey)--Your thoughts, positive or negative, influence the universe, by sending out "vibrations" that attract either good or bad.

* NEW AGE--Esoteric "Christian" movement with roots in the occult and Egyptian Mysticism.

* FREE MASONS--Fraternal Organization, sometimes disguised as "Christian", but involved in the occult and rooted in the Golden Dawn. Uses Enochian Magic. Heavy into Pyramidology and worship of the Egyptian gods, Isis and Osiris. (The "First Time of Osiris is also called the "Golden Age", former name of the JW "Awake!" magazine started by Charles Russell.) Lower orders (levels) of Freemasonry are grooming grounds for the Illuminati.

* ILLUMINATI--The elite group of the Free Masons’ highest orders. Members are highly successful in business and politics and promote the "New World Order" movement. The "SKULL & BONES" college fraternal organization is also a recruiting group for the Illuminati.

* ORDER OF THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR--High ranking Freemason Order that incorporates symbols and rituals of the original order that was supposedly dismantled in the 1700’s. Some think it is the original order, not truly disbanded, but using Free Masonry as it’s cover.

Those of you who have been reading my posts on a regular basis, know that I have been logging long hours researching the parallels between the Free Masons, the Jehovah’s Witness’s founder (Charles Taze Russell), and the Mormons. Now, keep in mind that, when I started this project, it was basically by accident that I stumbled upon the wealth of information that I now possess. I did not go into it with any pre-conceived notions about Russell and the Masons, because I didn’t even know about the connection, nor did I really know squat about the Free Masons. J Hence, my summary of the matter comes from research that was not obtained through the eyes of bias. Here is a summary of what I believe to be the case with Russell and the Masons, from all the research that I've done, so far, on the matter:

1 Russell was a high-ranking Mason, that has been proved to my satisfaction.

2. Russell maintained close ties with the Masons, even thought he left to form his own sect. This seems to be the case since he still used a lot of the same terminology, symbols, secret handshakes, etc. and still associated closely with many of his former Masonic “brethren”.

3. Russell left the Masons because he succeeded to the highest ranks and then came to realize that Free Masonry was completely Occult based, beneath the guise of a "Christian" organization.

4. When Russell discovered this, he was nonplussed. His father had been a pastor and his early mentoring was all Adventist. He still believed in Christ and was offended when he found out that the Masons were occult based.

5. Russell then decided to teach others his belief system, which encompassed Adventism, his studies in Eastern philosophy/religion, and some Masonic beliefs that he still subscribed to.

6. Russell still believed in the Masonic belief in a "New World Order". He "Christianized" it, by modifying it from a Luciferian prospect, to a Christ-led one. This became the basis for his
New World on a "Paradise Earth" doctrine.

7. Russell believed in the basics of Masonry until his death, as evidenced by the Masonic grave marker that he lies beneath.

Charles Taze Russell, I believe, was an earnest seeker after God. I think this is evidenced by the fact that he left no stone unturned in his search for religious meaning. However, I do believe that, by the time he was done researching everything from Eastern religion to Christianity, and had even unwittingly found himself in an occult organization, he was even more confused about what to believe. He was most certainly misguided by the doctrines of man to which he had fallen prey. I think that, at that point, he struck out on his own, with his hodge-podge belief system, and sought to build his own organization.

Take a page out of the book of Russell’s life and learn from his mistakes. The upshot of the situation is: If you want to be a Christian, then read the BIBLE. It tells you everything you need to know about Jesus Christ and salvation the Christian way. It is not the hard to understand book that the Watchtower Society claims that it is. It is very easy to understand when it is read cover-to-cover--in its complete context. That is why the Watchtower Society says that reading the Bible alone has caused people to revert right back to the doctrines of Christendom. Of course it has! When you read the Bible, apart from man’s diverse interpretations of it, it’s message couldn’t be more clear.

If you truly fear that you cannot understand it on your own, I encourage you to pray before you begin your reading sessions. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in all understanding and to allow you to receive its message into your mind and into your heart. Don’t listen to fallible men who will only lead you astray, for they are the “blind leading the blind” mentioned in scripture. Jesus says that when we follow such blind leaders “both [us and them] fall into the pit”. (Matthew 15: 13)

Let God ALONE speak to your heart. If you are a seeker and a lover of truth, that is the only place to begin your journey, so that you can arrive safely at your destination.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Truly Directed By God?

by Vince T.

In reply to Aaron Lundstrom's letter to the editor [found at http://newsblaze.com/story/20081212133443zzzz.nb/topstory.html] and titled, "The Role of Accurate Knowledge in Faith", Mr. Lundstrom makes this statement about the leaders of Jehovah's Witnesses:

"While not being earthly kings over Jehovah's Witnesses, the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses is a body of appointed men who take the lead in directing the spiritual education of the Witnesses and their public ministry, using the Bible as a textbook. These appointed ones are believed to be anointed with and directed by holy spirit, just as the governing body of anointed Christians were in the first century. (Acts 2:1-4; Acts 15:23-29) Like David, these men are imperfect."

**** Mr. Lundstrom plainly tells the reader that the Jehovah's Witness Governing Body (leaders of Jehovah's Witnesses) are believed to be anointed with and directed by Holy Spirit today. "Believed" by whom, we might ask? Believed by Jehovah's Witnesses themselves. As a 15 year baptized, active and zealous Jehovah's Witness, who was also an elder with a variety of responsibilities, I can attest that this statement is very TRUE.

I was continuously taught at meeting after meeting, and fully believed -- as has every Jehovah's Witness that I have ever met and known -- that the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses (also known as the Faithful and Discreet slave and Watchtower Society) are God's Specifically Chosen Channel on the earth today, and that he uses them exclusively to direct his will on the earth and to direct his specially chosen people, the Jehovah's Witness Religious Institution and its members.

The Watchtower Magazine and other Witness literature is believed by Jehovah's Witnesses to be just how God communicates his will on earth today through that Governing Body, God's supposed Instrument of communication. This harmonizes with what the Watchtower Magazine itself has said throughout the years about itself.

1919 "Is not the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society the one and only channel which the Lord has used in dispensing his truth continually since the beginning of the harvest period?" {WT Apr 1 1919 6414}

1933 "To feed or teach his people the Lord has used the Watch Tower publications.. No man is given any credit for the wonderful truths which the Lord has revealed to his people through the Watch Tower publications." {WT Dec 1 1933 263}

1939 "It should be expected that the Lord would have a means of communicating to his people on the earth, and he has clearly shown that the magazine called The Watchtower is used for that purpose." {YEAR 1939 85}

1942 "The Watchtower does not consist of men's opinions" {WT Jan 1 1942 5}

1957 "Jehovah has established a very definite channel of communication through which he deals with his people .. It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the 'slave' as we would to the voice of God." {WT Jun 15 1957 370}

1969 "Jehovah's organization as directed by his 'faithful and discreet slave' class should influence our every decision also. {WT March 15, 1969 172}

1973 "Only this organization functions for Jehovah's purpose and to his praise. To it alone God's Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book." (Watchtower; July 1, 1973, pp. 402.)

1979 [Of those living at the time of Armageddon, only Jehovah's Witnesses will be saved] {WT Feb 15 1979 30}

1993  "But if we were to draw away from Jehovah's organization, there would be NO PLACE ELSE TO GO FOR SALVATION"... Watchtower 9/15/93 page 22 :

SEPTEMBER 1996 Kingdom Ministry (Page 1 paragraph 3)

Article titled, Walk by Faith: "We must also be firmly persuaded that Jehovah is leading us by means of his visible organization under the direction of “the faithful and discreet slave."

SEPTEMBER 2002 Kingdom Ministry (Page 8 paragraph 5)

Article Titled, Avoid the Pursuit of Valueless Things: "Bear in mind that our heavenly Father has an appointed channel of communication,“the faithful and discreet slave.” That “slave” has the responsibility to determine what information is made available to the household of faith, as well as “the proper time” for it to be dispensed. This spiritual food is available only through the theocratic organization. We should always look to God’s appointed channel for reliable information—Matt. 24:45."

Clearly then, anybody can see that Jehovah's Witnesses teach the belief that God has chosen only the Watchtower leaders as his "Channel of Communication", and that Jehovah's Witnesses themselves are admonished to follow all of these specific teachings that are published in their literature as if it was coming from God Himself. And as already mentioned, as a 15 year member and elder, this is exactly what I believed as do all Jehovah's Witnesses that I have ever known.

So then, the question remains, are these claim TRUE? Has God chosen The Watchtower as his specific and only religion on the earth?

For me, after a thorough examination of the full range of facts as they truly and honestly are, the answer has become a very clear and resounding NO. If I had known back then in 1990, when I was baptized as a Witness, what I know now today in December 2008, I would have never been baptized as a Jehovah's Witness. But back then, when I was studying the bible with Jehovah's Witnesses there was no internet to use to gain valuable information and to examine the Witness faith as well as its history like there is today. I basically took their word for it when it came to information they presented to me, as well as what they present to all potential Jehovah's Witness Bible studies, namely --their version and their side--.

So then what caused this change in my position and belief that God chose the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses as his channel and people?

For me it was a combination of learning about Mistake after mistake having been made (throughout the entire 100-plus year existence of the Watchtower Society); A back and forth Flip-flopping again and again on numerous doctrinal positions; Several well publicized end of the world predictions that Never Came True; Terrible Watchtower Society positions against often LIFE-SAVING  medical procedures such as vaccinations, organ transplants and blood transfusions that have literally caused thousands of people to die unnecessarily; the arrogant belief that only Jehovah's Witnesses are true Christians while all others religions and people of those religions will be destroyed unless becoming a Jehovah's Witness;... all this along with a host other strange, inconsistent and even embarrassing teachings and beliefs for over a century now. I have concluded that God would never be behind an organization (that claims he has chosen only them), that has gotten so many things wrong for so long and made so many mistakes, all in verifiable writing, throughout its entire existence on this earth.

This is a link showing just how many mistakes there have been over the years: http://www1.tip.nl/~t661020/wtcitaten/part1.htm

If God were to literally choose just one faith on the earth to represent him and his interests, along with using this same one group to publish his own thoughts, on a variety of subjects and issues, wouldn't it be reasonable to conclude that God would do better than what the Watchtower has done with all of these mistakes posted above?

And while some of these policies have been dropped, reversed, adjusted, never came true etc etc; while they were in effect, Jehovah's Witnesses simply had no choice but to adhere to them, had no choice but to teach them to other people even if they themselves disagreed with them or if they were later proven to be wrong or bad policies. If any Jehovah's Witness did not support whatever policy was in place at that time they would have to face organizational counsel and discipline, which if not properly accepted, would then lead to being disfellowshipped (ex-communicated) followed by extreme shunning and the losing everybody you know including your very own family members. One cannot disagree with any JW current teachings without facing the severest of punishment in times past as well as today.

Which is exactly what happened to me as I explained my my previous letter to the editor titled, "Zealous Person For Jehovah", found here: http://newsblaze.com/story/20081209054218zzzz.nb/topstory.html One simply cannot disagree with any current WT policies without facing the severest of penalties through extreme shunning by all Jehovah's Witnesses. For any Jehovah's Witness that does not comply with these shunning  policies, they in turn will face discipline and if not accepting the counsel, they too will then be disfellowshipped and shunned.

I have lost my step son and our first grandchild (now three years old), my brother in law, several business partners, my good name and reputation, I am judged and labeled as some wicked apostate godless man and am shunned by all Jehovah's Witnesses today. Why so much severe punishment as this? What is my crime to face such consequences? I simply disagreed with the JW blood policy. I did not take blood. I did not tell others to take blood. I simply DISAGREED with this JW policy and now I am shunned, labeled and judged for the rest of my life along with losing some of the very family I raised. Is this loving, fair or Christian? I have done nothing wrong. After concluding, through enormous efforts, that the Watchtower Blood policy is wrong (just like their no vaccinations and no organ transplants policies were wrong before, I simply could no longer with a clear conscience make other people in my territory accept this policy, which is a mandatory requirement if one wishes to become a Jehovah's Witness. And because of this I was going to be disfellowshipped. So instead I disassociated at that very same time.

Mr Aaron Lundstrom would like for the reader to chalk up all those numerous mistakes from the Watchtower Society throughout their entire existence to mere human imperfection. He then tries to compare such Watchtower failures to the mistakes of biblical figures such as King David and the Apostles of the first century. What Mr. Lundstrop fails to recognize is that people, as individuals, have always and will always make personal mistakes throughout their lives as imperfect humans. David, Moses, Peter, Paul and many others made mistakes. All Christians today do as well. Even the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses themselves make mistakes as imperfect men.

But as clearly posted above, and as quoted by Aaron Lundstrom at the tope of this letter, the Watchtower's Governing Body is said to be "anointed and directed by God Himself." It's in clear print for anybody to read.

But here is the problem: These men of the Governing Body get together as a collective group, they pray for holy spirit to guide them as a collective group, they then make decisions based on being directed by God's spirit as a collective group, they then publish those decisions in their Watchtower magazines made as a collective group and then force those decisions on all Jehovah's Witnesses and expect them to live by those decisions at risk of losing God's favor and threat of disfellowshipping and extreme shunning.

But then when we find out that those decisions had to be dropped altogether, reversed, adjusted, changed and even apologized for, we can clearly see that God was never behind them to begin with. They were wrong the first minute they came off of the presses. God was definitely never behind these many erroneous Watchtower policies despite claims to the contrary.

What Aaron Lundstrom fails to differentiate is that Human beings, individually, are allowed to and do make mistakes on a daily basis; including Moses and Jesus own hand-picked apostles. The very Writings (which are claimed to be from God --2Tim 3:16,17 and 2Peter 1:20,21 and Acts 3:21), of these same bible writers however are without mistakes anywhere. When the apostles mistakenly thought the Kingdom was being established at that time, they asked Jesus for clarification. (Matthew 24:1-3). They did not PUBLISH those erroneous thoughts. That's why the bible is what it is today. Many truly believe it is inspired. Otherwise, if the bible writers had the same kind of track record of mistakes as does the Watchtower Society, the bible would be considered as nothing more than some "good book" and that is it. But to most people it is viewed as the infallible word of God. it gets everything correct.

On the other hand, the very writings of the Watchtower Society (which also claims to be "food from God", his "mouthpiece" today, "God's Channel" etc), are filled with mistake after mistake and numerous inconsistencies and eventual embarrasments. Yet Aaron Lundstrom wants to conveniently just chalk it up to "human imperfection".

That simply does not work for most thinking people. The Watchtower cannot get a free pass here on all those past and current mistakes and bad policies while claiming God has anointed them and is directing them and them only. Many JW's try to minimize the mistakes made by the Watchtower Society, as did I for many years. At least the ones I did know about. But you just can't get away with this that easy. How many people DIED solely due to those bad medical policies which eventually had to be dropped altogether? That's how bad they were, most had to be dropped, discarded, dumped because they were just that bad. Was God behind them?

Did Jehovah say No Vaccinations for 23 years and then change his mind and say vaccinations are now okay to have? All the while vaccinations were stomping out polio, smallpox and so much more. Did God get it wrong?

Did Jehovah say Organ Transplants are the same as "Cannibalism" and forbid them for 13 years, only to then change his mind and eventually say Organ Transplants are now okay to have? Did God Himself direct those bad policies only to have to drop them later on? And what about the Jehovah's Witnesses that died by following these policies? Only to have them reversed later. I have read some of these accounts. It breaks your heart to read them.

How many people listened to all of the false end of the world specific dates, published in writing, missed predictions? 1914, 1925, 1975, before the end of the 20th century, before the generation of 1914 dies out and several more than this. Predictions which proved what? Every single one proved False. No hyperbole, all of them. Lives were ruined following the WT leadership with those as well. People gave up families, plans to have children, enjoyable careers... all for what ? For a message that proved untrue over and over again. How "faithful and discreet" is this? What does this say about the WT Society Organization to most people then? What does that say about ANY an organization? And wouldn't it be reasonable for thinking persons to expect more from a religion that makes the claims of God's Only True Channel Today?

Is it a lack of faith on the part of intelligent people that reject the Watchtower Society based on so many bad policies and mistakes over the years along with numerous current bad policies? Or would it be irresponsible to just look the other way? Truth can stand up to any challenge. It can hold up to vigorous cross-examination. Yet the average JW knows very little of this past, and just goes along with whatever they are told. So did I. Do people such as myself and many others leave the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses because we have now been blinded and have a wicked heart? Or did we leave because they WERE blinded and NOW have all of the important information to make a better, more educated and complete decison?

How does anybody just go from all these mistakes for the past 100 years made by the Watchtower Society, to the Watchtower Society is the "One True Faith"? The reason is simple; most Witnesses have no idea about these many things I have posted here, just like I never knew about them for 15 years as an active Witness.

And when mistakes are eventually realized by Jehovah's Witnesses, and new information or a new direction has to replace the old mistaken information or direction by the Watchtower Society, then the Watchtower likes to conveniently call it, "New Light". As if God has somehow revealed something miraculous again. This works and even gets people excited for most Witnesses readily accept this information since they already believe God has chosen them alone to begin with. But one clear look at the reality would show most thinking people that "new light" has not been revealed at all; but rather, more bad information, mistaken policies, false predictions and wrong beliefs simply need to be replaced due to the realization that these old policies and beliefs are simply proven to not be true.

The generation of 1914 never dying off for example. They had no choice BUT to drop that and find something to replace it with. And then changed it again. The recent change that the 144,000 has not been sealed but is still open. (After all the number of those partaking has only been going up.) Organ Transplants not ever being the same as cannibalism and allowing tens of thousands of people today the added opportunity to live life. On and on we could go filling pages worth of examples that prove new light never happened.

The fact is that new light could more accurately be called blinking light. New light is usually the realization that the Governing Body was simply wrong to begin with.

There are good people from all religions today. This is truly a fact. All religious organizations do make mistakes as well. The WT Society is actually worse than most however. So how can people say this is the one true religion today? How can anybody back such lofty claims as those up, with such a poor track record? I have yet to see that happen anywhere.

Moses parted the Red Sea, manna fell from the sky, prophecies came true. Jesus walked on water, healed the sick, fed thousands, raised the dead and so much more. But the Watchtower Society has an entire history of mistaken policies that have been and still are forced on all Witnesses at the very real threat of disfellowshipping and being shunned for non-compliance. They also boastfully claim "one true faith', while condemning all other religions and people of those religions to destruction if not becoming JW's.

For me today and most people that see all the facts there is nothing there to support such lofty and inflated claims as the Watchtower being chosen by God. The WT Society certainly is not dispensing food from God from what the record clearly shows. Because it is quite obvious that God would never be behind all those mistakes again and again along with numerous current unscriptural policies.

Otherwise I would have never left the religion and have to suffer such steep consequences.

The Watchtower Deception!

Please check out this link:

All the proof you could ever want of corruption, greed, and out-right lies promoted by the Watchtower Society of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I've said it before: the rank and file JW has absolutely no idea about the secret cover-ups within the highest echelon of the Society, nor the way they have repeatedly rewritten their history to accomplish this goal. The proof is all on this site.

The Jehovah's Witness Bible is Heretical!

THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION

(WATCHTOWER SOCIETY BIBLE TRANSLATION)

Readability:                Although this is not the first Bible to be printed by the Watchtower Society (they also once published a Greek Septuagint and a Greek Interlinear Translation), the 1961 New World Translation (NWT) was the first to contain both the Old and the New Testaments. Note that no reputable Bible scholar supports the NWT as accurate in its renderings of key Christian concepts, especially in its attempts to strip Jesus of His deity (e.g. John 1:1; Col. 1:15-18) and the Holy Spirit of His personhood (see notes on back). In fact, in addressing the NWT’s attempts to support the Watchtower Society’s preconceived, heretical theology, Dr. William Barclay concluded that it was a “deliberate distortion of truth” and that “it is abundantly clear that a sect which can translate the New Testament like that is intellectually dishonest.”1

Reference Support

Material:                    Rather than pointing to reputable scholars for support, the Watchtower Society has historically pointed to the sympathetic renderings in the translation by Johannes Greber—a Catholic priest turned spirit medium who re-translated the Bible after receiving his interpretations from spirit entities! In fact, the WTS continued to cite Greber’s support some 30 years after his spiritistic practices were revealed, until his history was exposed by individuals outside of the organization. They also deceptively claimed that Greek scholar, Bruce Metzger, agreed with their heretical rendering of John 1:1 (where the Word is rendered as “a god”). However, Metzger’s comments were taken completely out of context, causing him to subsequently state that such a rendition “is not justifiable” and “entirely in accord with the Arian theology of the sect.” 2

Number of

Translators:                Five former members of the Watchtower Society, none of whom were Hebrew or Greek scholars, despite the Watchtower’s claims. Their identities were kept anonymous (supposedly under the pretense of humility), but some former members of the Watchtower Society later exposed their identities. They were: Nathan Knorr (then president of the WTS), Frederick W. Franz (Knorr’s successor), Albert D. Schroeder, George Gangas, and Milton G. Henschel (who also later became president of the WTS). None had a college education except for Franz, who never completed even an undergraduate degree, nor did he major in either Greek or Hebrew. When challenged about their lack of credentials as translators, the WTS stated that “the particulars of their university or other educational training are not the important thing”.3

Translation

Philosophy/Format:    The NWT has traditionally been claimed, by Jehovah’s Witnesses, to be a word-for-word rendering (as opposed to a “thought-for-thought” rendering) of the KJV, except that the archaic English of the KJV has been modernized. However, even if it were not for its erroneous and even heretical renderings (despite WTS claims to be free of sectarian bias), the KJV is based on the Textus Receptus, while the NWT is primarily based upon The New Testament in the Original Greek by Westcott & Hort (which was based on the Codex Vaticanus)—completely different manuscripts!

Notes:

  • The word “other” is inserted into the text of Colossians 1:15-18, in several instances, to make it appear that Jesus is—not before ALL creation (as Creator), but only before all OTHER creation (once He was created by God the Father).
  • The name “Jehovah”—a man-made term based on a modern translation of the Hebrew Yahoveh--is forced throughout the NWT’s Greek New Testament. Such an interjection is completely unreasonable since it mixes two languages together. This has been done in an effort to separate the OT Yahweh from Jesus Christ as LORD in the NT--again stripping Jesus of His Deity.
  • The Hebrew word "ruach" (wind or spirit) is translated in the NWT as "active force". This is done to strip the Holy Spirit of His personhood and, thus, His status as the third personage of the Godhead. From there (and in combination with their attempts to likewise strip Jesus of His Deity), it is a rather easy progression to disclaim the Trinity doctrine.
  • The Greek word Parousia (which speaks of Jesus’ Second Coming) is translated as "presence", in order to justify the WTS’s teaching that Jesus’ return was in 1914 and that He is now ruling the earth as an unseen “presence”.
  • The words "sheol," "hades," "gehenna," and "tartarus," mostly translated as "hell" in other translations, are left in the NWT in their original Hebrew and Greek forms. This is done in order to justify the WTS’s rejection of Hell, since each term can be given an entirely different interpretation.
  • The Hebrew word ne'phesh, and the Greek word ψυχή psykhē, are both translated as "soul" in the NWT in order to support the WTS’s stance that the soul is merely the person himself (not the immaterial part of the person which survives after death). The WTS teaches that death is the end of all conscious existence (or, “soul sleep”), until the time when all people will be resurrected to judgment--to receive either the reward of life forever on paradise earth or to return to the unconscious state of death.
  • The Greek words kosmos and aion, typically translated as “world” and “age”, respectively, are rendered as "system of things" in the NWT.  This is done to justify their Paradise Earth doctrine that states that the world will not be destroyed in Armageddon--only this wicked “system of things” will be done away with so that the earth can be restored to the paradise-like conditions of Eden.
  • Where other translations translate the Greek word ekklesia as "church", the NWT uses the word "congregation". The two terms do not equate, since any group can be a “congregation”, but only the church is called to be the bride of Christ.
  • The Greek word staurós, rendered as "cross" in almost all New Testament translations, is rendered as “torture stake” in the NWT. The WTS claims that "staurós" refers to a single upright post with no crossbeam. It may be a matter of semantics, but the Jehovah’s Witnesses belabor the point in order to draw a line of separation between themselves and the whole of Christendom.

The False Prophet Organization

Beware the Watchtower--A false Prophet organization!

WHAT IS A PROPHET?

The Watchtower Society defines a prophet of God as one whom, like Moses:

1) Speaks in Jehovah's name…

2) The things that would come to pass...

3) Thereby promoting true worship which is in harmony with God's Word.

Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 1,348

DOES THE WT PROFESS TO BE SUCH A PROPHET?

Jehovah’s Witnesses today say no, but is this true, when the Society has claimed to:

1) Be God's only mouthpiece for today;

2) Have revelations from God;

3) Be the sole group with understanding of

the Bible;

4) Be God’s only Spirit-directed

organization.

Some quotes from their own literature:

"It is of importance to every individual on earth to identify the group that Jehovah

has commissioned as His servant' or messenger." Watchtower, March 15, 1972

"Who is this prophet? . . . not one man, but a body of men and women... known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses." Watchtower, April 1, 1972

"...the time must come, and that shortly, when those making up Christendom will know that really a 'prophet' of Jehovah was among them." The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah, p. 70

"...Jehovah's organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God's holy spirit or active force ... To it alone God's sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book."

"God by his holy spirit" has directly "revealed" things to its "early Bible students ... far in advance." Watchtower. July 1, 1973

HOW CAN WE TELL A FALSE PROPHET FROM A TRUE PROPHET?

Jesus warned about false prophets in Matthew 7:15, 16, saying: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them".

The Society itself concurs, saying: "A 'prophet' claims to have inspired information for the direction of others. A 'false prophet' would mislead others, to turn them away from God and toward false worship." Watchtower, June 15, 1974, p.381

Regarding the "fruit" of such ones, the Society further says that God "will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets."

Paradise Restored to Mankind, pp. 353-354

In addition, the Society says: "The best method of proof is to put a prophecy to the test of time and circumstance. The Bible invites such a test... the Bible ...establishes the rules for testing a prophecy at Deuteronomy 18:20-22."

Watchtower, March 1, 1965

The Watchtower’s use of Deuteronomy 18 is correct. It does, indeed, give us the criteria for judging the authenticity of someone who claims to be a prophet. It says: "But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?" If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him."

In light of these warnings, we must ask:

What has been the "fruit" produced by the Watch Tower Society?

The Society has, in fact, invited us to examine its prophecy track record, stating: "Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a 'prophet' of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can

be done is to review the record. What does it show?" Watchtower, April 1, 1972

What does the record show?

FALSE PROPECIES

OF THE wts

The record shows that, from its earliest beginnings, the organization has predicted specific time frames for the end of the world and the imminent return of Jesus Christ. In fact, founder, Charles Taze Russell, began to predict these events as early as 1874. Here are just a few of the major dates that have been set by the Watch Tower Society:

1914: ". . . the 'Battle of the Great Day of God Almighty' (Rev. 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already

Commenced."

The Time is at Hand, 1908 ed, p.101

1925: "...Since other Scriptures definitely fix the fact there will be a resurrection of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and other faithful ones of old ... we may expect 1925 to witness the return of these faithful men of Israel from the condition of death, being resurrected and fully restored to perfect humanity and made the visible, legal

representatives of the new order of things on earth."

Millions Now Living Will Never Die, p.89

"Our thought is, that 1925 is definitely settled by the Scriptures, marking the end of the typical jubilees."

Watchtower, April 1, 1923, p.106

NOTE: The WTS was so convinced that this would occur in 1925, they bought a mansion in San Diego, California, which they called Beth Sarim (meaning, House of the Princes), for the purpose of housing the resurrected patriarchs! After this prophecy failed, then President, Joseph Rutherford resided there until his death. Thereafter, the property was quietly sold. Most JWs today have no idea about this debacle!

1975: "According to this trustworthy Bible chronology six thousand years from man's creation will end in 1975." Life Everlasting, p.28

"Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end."

Kingdom Ministry, May 1974, p.3

When these events did not transpire, the Society deflected criticism without ever bailing on its false prophecies. Then, it simply spurred adherents to go on.

Regarding 1925, they said: "With great expectation Christians have looked forward to this year. Many have confidently expected that all members of the body of Christ will be changed to heavenly glory during the year. This may be accomplished. It may not be. In his own due time, God will accomplish his purposes concerning his own people. Christians should not be so deeply concerned about what may transpire during this year that they would fail to joyfully do what the Lord would have them to do." Watchtower, Jan. 1, 1925, p.3

"It is to be expected that Satan will try to inject into the minds of the consecrated the thought that 1925 should see an end of the work, and that therefore it would be needless for them to do more."

Watchtower, 1925, p.262

In spite of its failures, the Society continued to imply that certain years were scheduled for Armageddon and that it would only be "months away": "Receiving the sift, the marching children clasped it to them, not a toy or plaything for idle pleasure, but

the Lord's provided instrument for most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon."

Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1942, p.288

Oddly enough, the Society admits that such activities, when practiced by others, amount to false prophesying:

"True, there have been those in times past

who predicted an 'end to the world,' even announcing a specific date. Some have gathered groups of people with them and fled to the hills or withdrawn into their houses waiting for the end. Yet, nothing happened. The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? . . . Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that he was guiding and using them." Awake, Oct. 8, 1968, p.23

Furthermore, they have said: "False prophets will try to hide their reason for feeling shame by denying who they really are. They will try to avoid . . . being pronounced spiritually dead by Jehovah's loyal worshipers."

Paradise Restored to Mankind, p.354

In spite of this evidence to the contrary, the Society now teaches its followers that it never claimed to be an inspired prophet!

Watchtower FALSE DOCTRINES

GOD’S NAME

WT: Jehovah is God’s true name. Superstitious Jewish Scribes removed it from the Bible, but our New World Translation faithfully restored it to the OT & inserted it in the NT where it made sense to do so. Using Jehovah’s name is essential to salvation (Rom. 10:13 NWT).

TRUTH: OT Scribes used the Hebrew consonants YHVH. Later these were combined with the vowels from "Adonai" (Lord). The result was "Yahovah", later translated "Jehovah"—A Man-Made Term! As the word has Hebrew origins, it cannot be forced into the Greek NT. In all of the Greek manuscripts we have, "Kurios" (Lord) or "Theos" (God) is used—Never Jehovah—not even when quoting the OT!

* NOTE: It is not the use of the name itself that is problematic, but how the WT uses it to skew theology!

TRINITY

WT: The word "Trinity" is not found in Scripture. The doctrine is incomprehens-ible, deceptive & confusing. It is pagan in origin and could only have originated with Satan, so as to reproach God and turn men away from Him. Trinitarians are polytheists and their God is a 3-headed freakish monster, difficult to love and worship.

TRUTH: The concept is throughout the Bible. We are baptized in the name of all three persons (Mt. 28:19). Jesus used God’s name "I AM" and the Pharisees sought to stone Him for blasphemy. (Jn. 8:57-59 cp. Ex. 3:13, 14). Only God has the power to forgive sin. Jesus often healed by forgiving sin. (1 Jn. 1:9; Mk. 2:5-7). Jesus is the creator and the Alpha & Omega (Heb. 1:2, 3; Col. 1: 16, 17; Jn. 1:1; cp Rev. 1:8 with Rev. 2:8). Jesus is Eternal Father, Mighty God, Lord (Isa. 9: 6, 7; cp.10:21; Titus 2:13; Rom. 10:9; 1 Cor. 3:12; Phil. 2:11)

HOLY SPIRIT

WT: The Holy Spirit is not a person. He is not God and is not equal to God. It is God’s "active force"—akin to electricity or wind--by which He accomplishes His will. It came upon Jesus at His baptism and enabled Him to do miracles.

TRUTH: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He has a mind (Eph 1:17; 1 Cor 2:11; Rom 8:27), a will (1 Cor. 12:11; Acts 16:6), & is able to be grieved (Eph. 4:30). He performs the actions of a person:

--As a Teacher (JN 14:26; 15:26)

--As a Counselor (JN 16:7, 8)

--He can be lied to (Acts 5: 3, 4)

--He lives (1 Cor. 3:16)

--He fellowships (2 Cor. 13: 14; Rom. 8:14)

Scripture speaks of us as having God, Christ, AND the Holy Spirit ALL within us. (Cp. Eph. 2:22; 1 Cor. 6:19; 2 Cor. 3:17)

He also intercedes in prayer for us, just as Jesus does (Rom.8:26 cp Heb. 7:25)

JESUS

Jesus is a created being, thus making Him a ‘son’ of God. He is the highest ranking angel: the arch-angel, Michael. He is and always has been submissive to the father--they are in no way equal. He was not an incarnation of God, but merely a perfect man. (NOTE: The WT claims that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are not equal to God in an attempt to destroy the Trinity doctrine.)

TRUTH:

* Heb. 1:5— "To which of the angels did God ever say, ‘You are my Son’?"

* Dan. 10:13 indicates that there is a class of arch-angels and Michael is one of them.

* Phil. 2: 5-11 Jesus divested himself of His glory to take on the cloak of humanity. (ASK: Does v. 9-11 mean that His name is above Jehovah’s name, or that He’s Deity?)

* Col. 1:15-20--Jesus is before ALL things. (NOTE: The NWT inserts the word "other" 5 times in this passage: "all other things") to strip Him of His role as the Creator.

v. 19—the fullness of God dwelled in Him. * NOTE: "Firstborn" (v 15) means supremacy or pre-eminence (in v. 19).

CHRIST’S RESURRECTION

WT: Jesus died when His spirit went out of Him, but since He didn’t return to heaven right then (Lk. 23:46), He obviously stayed in the grave until He was raised 3 days later. (NOTE: To the WT, this also proves that Jesus was merely a mortal man.)

Jesus was resurrected as a spirit because flesh & blood cannot inherit the kingdom (1 Cor. 15:50).

Jesus took on and discarded physical bodies so that he could appear to His disciples and show His wounds to Thomas. That’s why His disciples thought He was a ghost and did not recognize Him.

TRUTH: There is a difference between a spirit (like God) and a spiritual (glorified, resurrected) body:

A spirit does not eat as the risen Christ did (Lk. 24:36-43). A spirit does not have hands and feet, or flesh and bone, as the risen Christ did (Lk. 24: 39, 40)

The disciples did not think they’d seen an apparition. They just couldn’t believe their eyes (v 40)--they knew He said He would rise, but apparently required physical evidence to fully believe it.

The context reveals that the disciples’ eyes were kept from recognizing Him (veiled).

SOUL SLEEP

WT: Man is a soul (a living being)—He does not have a soul. Body + Life force (breath) = Soul (1 Pet. 3:20; Gen. 9:5; Josh. 11:11). People die and return to dust just like animals do (Gen. 3:19). That we don’t die is Satan’s lie (Gen. 3:4). The dead are conscious of nothing (Eccl. 9: 5, 6). This is true of both righteous and unrighteous dead, until the resurrection on judgment day. The dead are merely "asleep" (unconscious), until they are resurrected (1 Thess. 4:13-17)

TRUTH: The Hebrew word for soul (Nephesh) is used in a variety of ways: A living person; man’s immaterial nature (Gen 35:18 KJV); the "inner man" (seat of emotions (Dt. 28:65; Job 30:25; 3:20; Ps. 13:2; 6:3; 42:6; 43:5; 86: 4; Gen. 42:21; 2 Kings 4:27).

In context with the rest of Scripture, we know that man does have an immaterial nature: Mt. 10:28; Rev. 6:9, 10 (Heb. Nephesh = Gk Psuche). Lk. 23:46—in context, Pneuma (translated as "spirit") can only mean soul. Since Jesus was not raised for 3 days, His human soul must have gone to the father (cp Acts 7:59; see also: Lk. 20:38; Phil.1:21-23).

Gen. 3:19 refers to physical, bodily death: the body was formed from the dust while the spirit/soul/life force came from God. The punishment for sin was aging, the failing of their physical bodies, and death. Satan is the one who denied that God would make good on this pronouncement.

* Eccl. 9:5, 6 is from the standpoint of carnal man who does not know God. From that standpoint, everything is vanity (futile), which is the premise of Ecclesiastes.

* "Sleep" applies to body only. The soul does not pass into a state of unconscious-ness. It is also a fallacy to say that sleep is a state of unconsciousness.

PARADISE EARTH

WT: In the aftermath of Armageddon, surviving JWs will work to clean up the earth and will restore it to the garden-like conditions of Eden. All JWs living there will gradually be restored to a state of perfection like Adam and Eve enjoyed. From heaven, the 144,000 will reign over the "Great Crowd" who will live forever on the earth. If anyone sins, they will be killed immediately.

TRUTH:

* The context of Mt. 6:10 refers to things Jesus was asking for His disciples right then.

* Ps. 37: 9, 11, 29—The Heb word Eres, in this context, refers to the land of Judea which God had given Israel as an enduring inheritance. The Hebrew word for "forever" (‘ad), in the OT, is often used to indicate that a promise would endure for generations.

* Ps. 115:16—In context, God had given the earth to all men to rule over (cp. Ps. 8:6-8; Gen. 1:28). All who are born again look forward to living with Christ in heaven (Jn.12:26).

SALVATION BY WORKS

WT: Salvation may be obtained if one clings to and unquestioningly obeys the organization and remains active in service to it—a works-based gospel. Jas. 2:26 says that faith without works is dead. Therefore, you will die if you do not do works. Phil. 2:12 says we must "work out" our salvation.

TRUTH:

* Eph. 2:8, 9—Salvation is by Grace alone (cp Titus 3:5; Gal. 2:16). Human righteous-ness is as "filthy rags" before God (Isa. 64:6). Salvation comes only by believing in Christ (Acts 16: 30, 31; JN 3:15; 5:24; 11:25; 20:31), not in man or an organization.

* Jas. 2:26 is not speaking of salvation. James is pointing out that works are evidence that our faith is truly alive.

* Phil. 2:12—In context: the church at Philippi had real problems in Paul’s absence. Paul was urging them to work hard to preserve the unity of the congregation.

WITNESSING TIPS

* Read all Scriptures in CONTEXT.

* Use the KJV

* Don’t let the JW control the conversation

* Watch for circular reasoning and topic

hopping.

* Witness in a spirit of love

* Define all terms

* Know WHY you believe what you believe

NOTE: I did not compile the following information, but it is wonderful. One of FBM’s members found this at the link below. Someone has gone to a great deal of work to compile this wonderful expose of the WTS. I have added some highlighting, italics, and headings, in order to make info. and sources easier to locate.

THE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY IS A FALSE PROPHET ORGANIZATION!

WT publications compared with the Bible:

http://blueletterbible.org/study/cults/exposejw/chap1.html

WHAT IS A PROPHET?

1. Is the Society* a true prophet of God?
1A. How does the Society define "true prophet?"

The three essentials given through Moses were:
1) ...Speak in Jehovah's name...
2) The things foretold would come to pass...
3) His prophesying must promote true worship being in harmony with God's Word and the prophets."

Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 1,348
1B. How does the Society test the true prophet's message?

"The best method of proof is to put a prophecy to the test of time and circumstance. The Bible invites such a test ... the Bible ...establishes the rules for testing a prophecy at Deuteronomy 18:20-22."

Watchtower, March 1, 1965
1C. Does the Society believe that a true prophet exists today?
Yes. In fact, the Society says, "It is of importance to every individual on earth to identify the group that Jehovah has commissioned as His servant' or messenger." Watchtower, March 15, 1972

1D. Does the Society believe that a true modern prophet would have the same authority as the Old Testament prophets?
Yes. Society members are told that there existed such a group and then they were asked to look for it-"...any group on whom Jehovah would be willing to bestow the commission to speak as a 'prophet' in His name, as was done toward Ezekiel..." Watchtower, March 15, 1972

1E. Does the Society claim to be the present day true prophet?
Yes. "Who is this prophet? ...not one man, but a body of men and women... known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses." Watchtower, April 1, 1972

1F. Where does the Society/Prophet claim to get its direction?
"Jehovah's Witnesses today make their declaration of the good news of the kingdom under angelic direction and support." In other words, angels tell the Society what to say and do. Watchtower, April 1, 1972

1G. Does the Society desire and expect Christendom to treat the Society as a prophet of God?
Yes. The Society fully anticipates this: "...regardless of how Christendom views or regards this group of anointed witnesses of Jehovah, the time must come, and that shortly, when those making up Christendom will know that really a 'prophet' of Jehovah was among them." The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah, p. 70

1H. What role does the Society claim for a prophet in these days?
What should a prophet be doing? The Society spells this out in three ways:
1. "The modern-day counterpart of Ezekiel"
2. "Do the will of Jehovah"
3. "Serve as the mouthpiece and active agent of Jehovah"
The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah, p. 58

Does the Society claim that it has been prophesying for God today?

1I. Does the Society claim that it has been prophesying for God today?
Yes. "The facts substantiate that the remnant of Christ's anointed disciples (the Society [see context]) have been doing that prophesying to all nations." They claim God's Spiritis "poured out" on them. They ask: "Why argue about it?" Holy Spirit—The Force Behind the Coming New Order!, p.148

1J. Does the Society claim that prophesying and preaching are the same ministry?
No. The Society claims that their members have been "preaching and prophesying from house to house and city to city...", thus clearly distinguishing between the two ministries. Both preaching and prophesying are regular activities of the Society. Holy Spirit—The Force Behind the Coming New Order!, p. 150

1K. Does the Society/Prophet claim any special knowledge concerning the Bible?
Yes. The Society published a six-volume work entitled Scripture Studies which it described as "the Bible in an arranged form." It amounted to a running commentary on the Bible. The Society claims that if someone were to "ignore" the Scripture Studies "and goes to the Bible alone, though he has understood his Bible for ten years...within two years he goes into darkness." The Society further claims that if a student "had merely read Scripture Studies with their references, and had not read a page of the Bible, as such, he would be in the light at the end of the two years, because he would have the light of the Scriptures." Watchtower, 1910, p.298

1L. Does the Society believe that it is the only organization that has God's Spirit or can understand the Bible?
Yes. It has made this clear when it said, "...Jehovah's organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God's holy spirit or active force ... To it alone God's sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book." Furthermore, it claims that "God by his holy spirit" has directly "revealed" things to its "early Bible students ... far in advance."
Watchtower. July 1, 1973

1M. Has the Society ever prophesied concerning the future and had that prophecy fail the test of "Time and circumstance" (see 1B. above)?
Yes. In fact there are many such "failed" prophecies (see False Prophecy Fact Sheet). Keep in mind, as you study these prophecies that the Society . . .
1) Claims to be God's one and only prophet today
2) Claims to have revelations from God
3) Claims to be the only group that understands the Bible
4) Claims to be the only Spirit-empowered organization on earth today.

False Prophecy Fact Sheet

2. Has the Society made false prophecies?
2A. Does the Society claim to be a true prophet of God, and does it ask that we examine its prophecy record?
Yes. The Society states this explicitly when it says: "So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help ... and to declare things to come?
These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet? ...This 'prophet' was not one man, but was a body of men and women...known... as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses..." It should be noted that even from its earliest beginnings the Society considered itself to be a true prophet of God. The Society does not expect others to just trust that it is a true prophet: "Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a 'prophet' of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record. What does it show?" Watchtower, April 1, 1972

1914

2B. Has the Society predicted that 1914 A.D. would mark the end of earthly rulership?
Yes. The Society made such a prediction in 1908: " ..the 'Battle of the Great Day of God Almighty' (Rev. 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already commenced" (i.e., it began before 1908). The Time is at Hand, 1908 ed, p.101
1874
2C. Has the Society declared that the earthly arrival of King Jesus took place in October, 1874?
Yes. "Our Lord, the appointed King, is now present since October, 1874, A.D." Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. IV, p.621

2D. Has the Society declared that the Millennium—the 1,000-year reign of Christ—began in 1873?
Yes. "The Bible chronology herein presented shows that the six great thousand-year days beginning with Adam are ended, and that great Seventh Day, the thousand years of Christ's reign, began in 1873." The Time is at Hand, 1916 ed., p.ii

1925

2E. Has the Society predicted that the visible, physical return to earth of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would take place in 1925?
Yes. "...Since other Scriptures definitely fix the fact there will be a resurrection of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and other faithful ones of old ... we may expect 1925 to witness the return of these faithful men of Israel from the condition of death, being resurrected and fully restored to perfect humanity and made the visible, legal representatives of the new order of things on earth." Millions Now Living Will Never Die, p.89

2F. How certain, in the minds of the Society, was the 1925 resurrection date?
As certain as any date could be. This is evident by various statements including the following:
1) "The date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated by the Scriptures because it is fixed by the law God gave to Israel." Watchtower, Sept 1, 1922, p.262
2) "Our thought is, that 1925 is definitely settled by the Scriptures, marking the end of the typical jubilees."
Watchtower, April 1, 1923, p.106

2G. When 1925 arrived did the Society begin to back down on its prophecies about the significance of that year?
Yes. "The year 1925 is here. With great expectation Christians have looked forward to this year.

2H. As the year 1925 progressed, did the Society indicate even more doubt about 1925 being the resurrection year—the year the new order begins?
Yes. Rather than suggest that a mistake was made or that God changed His mind, the Society subtly began to back down even further: Typical of this erosion process is the following:

"It is to be expected that Satan will try to inject into the minds of the consecrated the thought that 1925 should see an end of the work, and that therefore it would be needless for them to do more." Watchtower, 1925, p.262

2I. Was there disappointment among the Society members because of the failures concerning the predicted dates?
Yes. Most definitely and so much so that public admissions were printed: "There was a measure of disappointment on the part of Jehovah's faithful ones on earth concerning the years 1914, 1918 and 1925, which disappointment lasted for a time." Vindication, Vol. I, p.338

2J. Did the Society attempt to deflect criticism by clinging to the dates even though the prophecies concerning them went unfulfilled?
Yes. Basically the Society clung to the position that the dates were valid in spite of the lack of fulfillment: "Later the faithful learned that those dates were definitely fixed in the Scriptures . . . " Vindication, Vol. I, p. 338-339

2K. Did the Society indicate that as a result of disappointments it had decided to quit setting dates?
Yes. They seemed ready to give up the practice of fixing dates: "...they also learned to quit fixing dates for the future and predicting what would come to pass on a certain date, but to rely (and they do rely) upon the Word of God as to the events that must come to pass." Vindication, Vol. I, p. 339

2L. Did the Society, nevertheless, continue to imply that certain times and years were scheduled for Armageddon?
Yes. This was done with great care but the implication was always clear: Armageddon was only "months away," that is, less than a year. A typical example of the subtlety of these suggestions is seen in the following report: "Receiving the sift, the marching children clasped it to them, not a toy or plaything for idle pleasure, but the Lord's provided instrument for most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon."
Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1942, p.288

2M. Does the Society admit that such prior date setting activities amounted to false prophesying?
Yes. In its own literature it reveals its attitude toward such activities: "True, there have been those in times past who predicted an 'end to the world,' even announcing a specific date. Some have gathered groups of people with them and fled to the hills or withdrawn into their houses waiting for the end. Yet, nothing happened. The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing?

"Missing was the full measure of evidence required in fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that he was guiding and using them." Awake, Oct. 8, 1968, p.23

1975

2N. Has the Society concluded its date-setting activities or has it prophesied other dates such as 1975?
It continues submitting new dates. A classic example is an entire article devoted to a prophecy concerning the year, 1975. This was calculated to be the year of the end of this present age. Its title: "Why Are You Looking Forward to 1975?" Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1968, p.494

2O. Has the Society confirmed the 1975 date as accurate?
Yes. "According to this trustworthy Bible chronology six thousand years from man's creation will end in 1975, and the seventh period of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975 C.E." Life Everlasting—In Freedom of the Sons of God, p.28

2P. What did the Society members believe about the 1975 date? Would it be the end of the present system of things?
Yes. According to Erroll Burton, spokesman for the Paradise Valley Unit of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Arizona, the 1975 date would mean "'A change in the political system of things,' when 'all presently existing influences must be eliminated. After 6,000 years of the deterioration of mankind, there will be 1,000 years of refining mankind...' 'At the end of that period, man will be perfect, as Adam and Eve were before the fall.'"

The Society clearly has instructed its followers that 1975 represents "...the end of the world as we have known it," and it predicts that the "...thousand-year reign of Christ will begin." The Arizona Republic (newspaper), Aug. 24, 1969

2Q. Did the Society members begin to get rid of their possessions and make special sacrifices in order to prepare for 1975? Did the Society condone this activity?
Yes. In various ways this information was reported and evaluated. The Society's attitude is revealed in the following: "Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end." Kingdom Ministry, May 1974, p.3

3. Has the Society admitted to and covered up false prophecies?
3A. First, does the Society believe that a false prophet could. Exist today, and, does it believe that such a prophet could be an organization rather than just an individual?
Yes. It has gone into some detail in describing the false prophet's activities and purpose: "Similarly, the 'false prophet' is not a person, but is a system or an organization. A 'prophet' claims to have inspired information for the direction of others. A 'false prophet' would mislead others, to turn them away from God and toward
false worship." Watchtower, June 15, 1974, p.381

3B. Does the Society believe that God will reveal false prophets? If so, how will he do this?
Yes. The Society expects God to uncover the true character of false prophets. He "will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets." Paradise Restored to Mankind, pp. 353-354

3C. How does the Society anticipate false prophets to react to exposure?
"False prophets will try to hide their reason for feeling shame by denying who they really are. They will try to avoid . . . being pronounced spiritually dead by Jehovah's loyal worshipers." Paradise Restored to Mankind, p. 354

3D. Has the Society admitted to making false prophecies?
Yes. They admitted to looking "forward to 1914 with joyful expectation. When that time came and passed there was much disappointment." In other words, their predicted date concerning the end of the age had come and gone without fulfillment (see II.B. above). They became the subject of criticism "because they had said so much about 1914, and what would come to pass, and their 'prophecies' had not been fulfilled."

Here we have an example of the Society stating categorically that it had delivered a prophecy that time and circumstance demonstrated to be false. Light, (A Society publication), Book I, p.194

3E. Is the admission of making false prophecies an isolated item, or has a Society leader—under oath in court—ever admitted that the Society made such prophecies?
H.C. Covington, the then Vice President of the Society was on the witness stand in Scotland in 1954. When asked if the Society had "promulgated (i.e., set forth or taught publically) a false prophecy," Covington said "I agree to that." He was then asked if this false prophecy "had to be accepted by Jehovah's Witnesses," to which he replied, "That is correct." Walsh vs. Clyde, Scotland, Nov. 1954, pp. 340-343

3F. Has the Society tried to reverse itself (on its well-established claim to be a true prophet) since its 1975 prophecy failure?
Yes. The Society now teaches that "Jehovah's Witnesses as modern-day Christians are working hard to get this good news preached to every individual. They do not claim infallibility or perfection. Neither are they inspired prophets."

This is an amazing reversal! For almost 100 years the Society has claimed to be a "true prophet of God" and now they reveal that they are not inspired-leaving us to conclude that their many prophecies have not come from God. Watchtower, May 15, 1976, p.297

CONTRADICTIONS, DISTORTIONS, & ALTERATIONS

4. Has the Society altered any of its chronological calculations over the years?
[Note: We must realize that the society has placed a tremendous amount of emphasis on chronology during the century of its existence. Precise calculations of the dates of certain events—especially of those related to the beginnings of mankind—have been the basis for many of the Society's predictions. The creation date of Adam and the creation date of Eve have been the subject of particular attention because they relate—according to past Society literature—to the calculation of the beginning of the Millennium, or 1,000-year reign of Christ.]

4A. According to the Society, is the creation date of Eve important for calculating the date of the Millennium?
Yes. The exact date of Eve's creation was the beginning of God's "rest day" because (logically) Eve was God's last creation. Watchtower, Oct. 1, 1975, p.519

4B. Does the Society know when Eve was created?
No. According to the Society, the biblical record "shows a time lapse between the creation of Adam and that of his wife, Eve." Why was there a time lapse? What, for example, was going on? "During that time, God had Adam name the animals? Whether that period amounted to weeks or months or years we do not know?" No date can be established— even approximately—for Eve's creation date? Watchtower, Oct. 1, 1975, p.579

4C. Has the Society ever given a date for Eve's creation?
Yes. "According to reliable Bible chronology, Adam and Eve were created in 4026 B.C.E" Awake, Oct. 8, 1968, p.14

4D. Has the Society been able to predict a date for Eve's creation in spite of the reports of Adam's activities before her creation? On what basis do they do this?
Yes. The Society reasoned that ". . .it is logical that He (God) would create Eve soon after Adam, perhaps just a few weeks or months later in the same year, 4026 B.C.E." Watchtower, May 1, 1968, p.271

4E. Has the Society tried to explain the obvious contradiction between an unknown creation date and a 4026 B.C.E. creation date for Eve in its authoritative Bible study aid?
No. The study aid only confirms the impossible: it says that Society knows Eve's creation date!

1. At 130 years Eve gave birth to Seth.
Aid to Bible Understanding (1969), p.533

2. Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born?
Aid to Bible Understanding (1969), p.333

[Note: Before the 1975 prediction date of Christ's return, the society authoritatively supports a specific creation date for Eve. Aterwords they conveniently back down on their calculation.]

5. Has the society distorted the record of any of its past activities?
BETH SARIM

[Note: Beth-Sarim, which means "House of Princes" in the Hebrew language, was a handsome estate built in San Diego in 1930 by the Watchtower Society. Its history is variously represented by the Society.]

5A. What was the purpose of the construction of Beth-Sarim?
Beth-Sarim was, according to a recent Society yearbook, built as a home for one of the Society's presidents: "...a direct contribution was made for the purpose of constructing a house in San Diego for Brother Rutherford's use." 1975 Yearbook, p.194

5B. Did the Society, at an earlier date, give an entirely different purpose for constructing Beth-Sarim?
Yes. "...the purpose of acquiring that property and building the house was that there might be some tangible proof that there are those on earth today ... who believe that faithful men of old will soon be resurrected by the Lord, be back on earth, and take charge of the visible affairs of earth." Salvation, p.311

5C. Did the Society actually believe that certain resurrected Old Testament saints would come back and live in Beth-Sarim?
Yes. "...those faithful men of old may be expected back from the dead any day now...in this expectation the house was built... it is now held in trust for the occupancy of those princes on their return." The New World, p.104

5D. Does the deed to the Beth-Sarim property reveal the Society's original purpose for the estate?
Yes. While it is true that Rutherford was to have "exclusive possession" of the house during his lifetime, it was also true that that possession was to be relinquished upon the soon anticipated arrival of "David," "Joseph," "Samuel," etc. to the earth "for the express purpose of being used by those who are servants of Jehovah
God."

Page iii of the deed indicates other Society members could equally make use of the property "until the same be taken possession of by David or some of the other men herein named [from Hebrews chapter eleven] and this property and premises being dedicated to Jehovah and the use of his kingdom it shall be used as such forever."

It is interesting to note that the Society later sold the house. Deed to Beth-Sarim, Dec. 24, 1929

6. Has the Society distorted or misquoted various reference sources in an attempt to support its position on the Trinity?

MISQUOTE OF DR. MANTEY AND OTHER SCHOLARS TO SUPPORT THEIR VIEWS

6A. Did the Society misquote and misrepresent well-known Greek scholars H. E. Dana and J. R. Mantey?
Yes. The Society quotes Dana and Mantey out of context by asserting that their grammar (A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament) supports the translation "the word was a god" at John 1:1. Kingdom Interlinear, p. 1158

In a letter to the Society authored by Mantey himself we read: "...Because you have been quoting me out of context, I...request you not to quote the Manual Grammar... again, which you have been quoting for 24 years." He also asked them to "publicly and immediately apologize" for their misrepresentation. Mantey Letter, p.3

Why was Mantey so disturbed? His conclusion (found both in his Grammar and his letter) is that John 1:1 should be translated either "the word was deity" or "the word was God," not "the word was a god." Mantey estimates the evidence "to be 99% against" the Society's translation. Mantey Letter, p. 2

[Note: A word about John 1:1 is appropriate here. In this passage an important principle of Greek grammar is evident which has been a source of confusion for English readers.

Note first the order of the Greek words as seen in the Greek text (consult The Emphatic Diaglott or The Kingdom Interlinear, both Society publications):

KAI THEOS ÊN HO LOGOS And God Was The Word

In Greek there is no written indefinite article ("A" or "AN")—just the definite article ("the"). The indefinite article is often implied before a noun even though nothing is actually written down to tell the reader it is there. But this is not always the case. The word theos standing alone without the definite article might be translated "a god" if it were not for another principle of grammar. That principle is discussed in Mantey's letter to the Society. Mantey Letter, p.1, 2

And what does that principle mean? E. C. Colwell discovered that when a predicate noun (in this case theos) is in the nominative case (that is, in the same case as the subject of the sentence—the subject being logos) and is placed before the verb (instead of after the verb as is usually the case), it has no article—even when it is needed. In fact, Colwell also discovered that it is indefinite (i.e., with "a" or "an") only when the context demands it. (see Journal of Biblical Literature, Vol. LII (1933) pp. 12-21 from which Mantey quotes.)

Harner (see Journal of Biblical Literature, Vol. XCII (1973)) went on to discover that in 53 passages in John's Gospel, the Apostle John used this type of word arrangement to "express the nature of [the] character of the subject." Thus Mantey is right when he suggests the translation "the word was diety" or "the word was God" which stresses nature.

The translation "a god" inserts an indefinite article that is unwarranted by either grammar or context. The translation "a god" makes Jesus another God, makes John the Apostle a polytheist, and makes a mockery of Deuteronomy 32:39 which reads "there is no other god with me"—that would make Jesus a god against the Father!"]

6B. Did the Society quote the famous Bible translator Westcott out of context?
Yes. The Society gives the impression that Westcott supports the concept that John 1:1 should be translated "the Word was a god" (note the small "g"). Watchtower, Jan. 15, 1975, p.63

But as can be seen, Westcott holds to an entirely different view based on the grammar:The Word was God "...simply affirms the true deity of the Word." He held to the triunity of God, not the polytheism of "the word was a god." The Gospel According to St. John, p.3

[Note: A consultation with virtually any commentary on John 1:1 or any Koine Greek grammar on the use of the article in the New Testament will lead to the same conclusion reached by Westcott: The statement "simply affirms the true deity of the Word."]

6C. Did the Society misrepresent the New Catholic Encyclopedia on its position concerning the trinity?
Yes. The Society suggests that the New Catholic Encylopedia denies the historic trinity: It teaches that ..this doctrine was unknown to the Hebrew prophets and Christian apostles ... it also admits that the doctrine must be dated as from about three hundred and fifty years after the death of Jesus Christ." The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life, p. 22

A simple reading of page 306 of the New Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. XIV, will demonstrate that both conclusions by the Society were erroneous. Clearly, Paul and the Gospels taught the triunity of God and the Catholics hold to this belief. New Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. XIV, p. 306

6D. Does the Bible actually teach the doctrine of the trinity—a doctrine the Society strongly denies?
Yes. The trinity is the only explanation for the relationship given in Scripture between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Trinity & THE NATURE OF JESUS CHRIST

7. Does the Society deny the Biblical teaching that Jesus Christ is worthy of worship?
7A. Does the Society teach that Jesus rejects worship?
Yes. "Do not erroneously conclude that Christians are to worship Christ; that is not what he taught."
Watchtower, July 15, 1959, p.421

7B. Does the Bible reveal the worship of Christ as an appropriate and acceptable activity?
Yes. No one is rebuked for worshipping Christ in Scripture.

7C. Does the Society attempt to cover up the worship of Christ in Scripture in order to deny this teaching?
Yes. The word proskuneo is translated as worship (when used with reference to Jehovah) 22 times in the Society's New World Translation. The same word when used with reference to Christ is translated "obedience," "reverence," and "homage." The Bible clearly teaches the worship of Jesus, but the Society in an effort to obscure this fact has avoided the ususal and normal translation of proskuneo.

7D. Has the Society ever contradicted its position by encouraging Jesus worship?
Yes. "Christ (is) to be worshipped as a glorious spirit, victorious over death on the torture stake."
Make Sure of All Things, p. 85

8. Is the name "Jehovah" actually the name of God?
8A. Does the Society believe that "Jehovah" is the name of God? Yes. They have used it for more than 50 years and state categorically that it is "a translation of God's name, in Hebrew YHWH." Make Sure of All Things, 1953, p.188

God's name

8B. God's name?
No. They hold that "there is no such name as Jehovah." The name of God as it appears in Scripture is without appropriate vowels so, "no Hebrew can pronounce it today."

8C. Where did the mistranslation "Jehovah" come from?
"'Jehovah' is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo X's confessor, Peter Galatin." Letter, Michael Esses

The Jewish Encyclopedia, p. 88
"'Jehovah' is a mispronunciation... almost entirely disregarded by the Jews ... of the Hebrew 'YHWH' the... name of God... this pronunciation is grammatically impossible; it arose through pronouncing the vowels...of 'Adonay' (the Lord) ...with the consonants of ' YHWH. "

The Jewish Encyclopedia, p. 87
8D. Is there any basis for the Society using "Jehovah" as the name
for God?
No. "The pronunciation Jehovah has no authority at all and appeared only in late medieval times; it is an attempt to vocalize the Tetragrammaton (YHWH) usinq the vowels written under it by the scribes, which vowels however were never intended to be combined with the four consonants of this word."

Grant and Rowley, Dictionary of the Bible, p. 334
8E. If "Jehovah" is incorrect and not the name of God, what is the correct name?
It is Yahweh. "That the pronunciation in ancient times was Yahweh is concluded from transcriptions in the early Christian fathers." Grant and Rowley, Dictionary of the Bible, p. 334

9. Has the Society altered the Scriptures to suit its own particular needs?
9A. Where has the Society altered the text?
Take any Greek text or modern translation and compare it with the New World Translation (a Society publication) at:

John 1:1 (Note the added "a")

Colossians 1:15, 17 (Note the inserted "other")

Colossians 2:9 (Note the change from "deity" to "divine quality")

Titus 2:13 (Note the change from "God our Savior" to "God and our
Savior")

Revelation 3:14 (Note how "of" is changed to "by")

These are just a few examples of the alterations.

9B. To what can we attribute the mistranslations by the Society?
In court and under oath F. W. Franz, current president of the Society and one of the admitted translators of the New World Translation, lied about his ability to translate Scripture. He admitted he could not translate "a Bible verse." Lack of integrity and preparation, along with a marked theological bias has led to a number of outrageous errors in translation. Walsh vs. Clyde, Scotland, Nov., 1954

THE CROSS

10. Does the Society err in its teaching about the cross of Christ?
10A. According to the Society, how did Jesus die?
The Society claims that Jesus was impaled on an upright, single-pieced "torture stake." Kngdom Interlinear, pp. 1,155, 1,156

10B. How does the Society support its claim that Jesus died on "torture stake" instead of a "cross"?
The Society quotes 16th century writer Justus Lipsius in his De Cruce Liber Primus. Kngdom Interlinear, p. 102 & 103

10C. What does Justus Lipsius say is the method of Christ's death?
While it is true the Lipsius pictures the death of a man on a tree, e points out rather emphatically and in considerable detail that his was not the way Jesus died. In fact, he even includes a picture o Christ's death on the cross a few pages later. Reading from his ext we find: "In the Lord's cross there were four pieces of wood, the upright beam, the cross-bar, a tree trunk (piece of wood) placed blow, and the title (inscription) placed above." The Society has completely misrepresented Lipsius' drawing and findings. De Cruce Liber Primus, p. 19, 46, 47

1OD. Does the Bible teach that Jesus died on a cross?
Yes, without any doubt. Consult the Bible at John 20:25; 21:18, 19, att. 27:37, Mark 15:27, etc.

11. Has the Society ever altered its publications without notice to suit its changing prophecies?
Yes. Quietly the Society shifts its position when an embarrassing pophecy is made and then remains unfulfilled. For example, a crucial change was made in the 1923 version of Studies in Scriptures in order to bring it into line with the Society's changing prophecies. The earlier version has: "...the deliverance of the saints must take place some time before 1914 is manifest..."

The 1923 version has: "...must take place very soon after 1914 is manifest..." Studies in Scriptures

THE WT & MENTAL ILLNESS

12. Given the strange twists and contradictions of the Society over the years, is there any relationship between the Society and mental illness?
Yes, unfortunately. Members of the Society, according to an Australian study are "three times more likely to be diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia and nearly four times more likely from paranoid schizophrenia than the rest of the population at risk."

Why? Either the Society "tends to attract an excess of pre-psychotic individuals who may then break down, or else being a Jehovah's Witness is itself a stress which may precipitate a psychosis. Possibly both of these factors may operate together." John Spencer, The Mental Health of Jehovah's Witnesses

13. If Jehovah's Witnesses are not the truth, then what is? The truth is found in the Bible and not in the Watchtower Society (as has already been demonstrated.) Two steps must be taken: First, Jesus Christ must be given rightful Lordship in our life. Second, the Society member must break his ties with the Watchtower Society

The WTS DOES SO claim to be a "Prophet"

Response to "Anonymous" Reader

MY "ANONYMOUS" READER STATED: "Please notice that the word "prophet" is in quotes. Sometimes people use words a bit creatively, metaphori-cally. Words used in this way often appear with quotes around them. The quotes are a way of saying that you are using the word in a different sense than it is normally used. In English this is called a "signifier". This example does not show that the Watchtower has claimed they have had a direct communication from God other than what is already written in the bible.

MY RESPONSE: As to the objection raised on grammatical grounds: a word or phrase placed inside quotation marks is NOT meant to be taken as a metaphor. It is simply the short-cut way of saying "so called". For instance, let's say I had someone who calls herself my friend, but she does something against me, that I think is behavior unbefitting someone who's supposed to be my "friend". I might say, "my so-called 'friend' did such and such to me". That is to say that SHE calls herself my friend but, due to her behavior, I don't consider her to be a very good friend. Likewise, the Watchtower Society has put the label of "prophet" upon itself--GOD HAS NOT. Therefore, the WTS is only a so-called "prophet". As this is the case, even I will give you the courtesy of putting the term in quotes!

If the WTS meant "prophet" in a metaphorical sense, they would say that they are "like" a prophet or that they act "as" a prophet. These words signify the use of a metaphor, for the sake of comparision. For example, if I were to say, "She looks like a model", I am comparing her looks to the looks of a model. In the absence of such signifiers, we move from speaking of something in a metaphoric sense to speaking of something in a literal sense. The WTS has certainly spoken of itself and its followers as prophets, in a literal sense. See more examples below. In addition, they have spoken of WT founder, Charles Taze Russell, and the "annointed remnant" (notice the quotation marks: I am saying, so called "annointed remnant") as prophets as well.

The quotes below show that they have indeed claimed to have direct communication from God (i.e. "prophets of Jehovah", "Jehovah's prophet", etc). They have claimed to be "under angelic direction". They claim to be "the prophet whom Jehovah has raised up" and say they are a "modern Jeremiah" (an OT prophet). They don't say they are like the OT prophets or that they speak as if they were under angelic direction--they say they ARE these things!

I take it that you have not been in the religion for very long, so you are obviously not aware of these claims of the past. Of course, in view of all of the failed prophecies, the WTS now tries to deny that they ever said any of this. However, look back in history at the WT's own quotes and you will see that, not only have they called themselves "prophets", but they have made astounding prophetic and emphatic claims, predicting specific dates and specific future events. These are the things that a prophet does. Deuteronomy 18:22 tells us that a prophet is someone who speaks about things to come. That is why God says, ". . .if the thing follow not, nor come to pass . . ."

A true prophet has the ability to predict the future. God warns us that a false prophet DOES NOT have that ability, thus, what he says will not come to pass. The Watchtower Society and its presidents "hath spoken presumptuously", as this verse says. They have predicted dates (1914, 1975, etc.) upon which they have said that certain things would definitively take place. Just as God warned, these false prophecies of these false prophets did not take place because they were not from God. God says, of such false predictors, or "prophets", "thou shalt not be afraid of him".

Let me ask you this: If the WTS was, at those times, claiming these prophecies and predictions to be their own words, why were JWs unified in claiming these statements as their own? Why, in 1975, were JWs as a whole, so convinced that the world as we know it was going to end, that they were selling their homes, choosing not to marry and have children, and not seeking to better their life styles by means of higher education or better employment opportunities? Would a rational person really put so much stock in the words of a group of men that they would do this? No, they did it because the WTS had presented these words as being a direct word from God Himself. No JW in good standing was about to put his or her own interests in front of what they thought were God's interests. Notice that the WTS did not stop them from doing these things, as they well should have, if they'd known their prophecies were not from God. But AFTER their predictions did not come to pass, they accused these poor followers of misinterpreting what they'd said, thereby placing the blame squarely on their followers' shoulders and shirking any responsibility, thereof.

The Watchtower: Then & Now

by Vince T.

The Watchtower does not have everything wrong. Many of their teachings are found in the bible. JW's are for the most part morally conscious people too. By no means was my entire 18 years of association with them a terrible experience. You do develop friendships. You do enjoy the goody-nights, the association most of the time, and can also appreciate the unity that exists around the world. (Though I need to add that such unity is also enjoyed by other religious denominations such as with Mormons, World Wide Church of God, Seventh Days Adventists, Evangelicals etc.).

But for the entire JW experience to work, one simply must have an extremely strong, convincing faith, that the Watchtower Society IS that One True Faith On Earth, as they claim.

The, "This IS God's Only True Organization", is by far the most important element of all the elements involved with being a JW. With this conviction, a person can easily accept all that comes with the faith, that might otherwise be considered less than desirable. Yes there is quite a bit asked of you; there are many meetings, parts on the meetings and preparation for those meetings. Field Service, preparation for service, demonstrations in front of the congregation for service, donations to cover the expenses of literature for service and other things too. Association is limited, holidays and birthdays are excluded, and most do live a simpler, less exciting life. Yes, it also does definitely divide families. Yes, you may have to cut-off very close people, including your very own flesh and blood. But the fact is this: IF one believes with all his heart, that this organization alone is God's organization exclusively, then all of these things along with the thousands of other things peculiar to JW's can be accepted and even embraced fully and completely. Jehovah's Witnesses absolutely do believe this about themselves because it is taught throughout the many different meetings, assemblies as well as throughout most all of their literature. I was one for almost 20 years, up until just this past year. This is what I was taught and believed for most all of that time. Having that as a foundation then, that this *ALONE is God's Channel*, is what kept me going whenever some doubt would arise. This driving force allowed me to just look the other way when I did see certain things that just did not quite jive. Certain teachings that made me do a double take, were all put into their place due to the sole fact in my mind that this was God's Organization. And I am convinced that this is how it is for most of the 6 million Witnesses around the world today.

Now, if somebody, or some thing comes along and actually hammers away at that one major, core-belief (that this alone is God's Organization), if something is learned that completely challenges this foundational trust in the WT Society, then from my experience, the entire JW belief system can collapse like a house of cards. The demands of their highly structured routine THEN become too much to bear. The having to shun good friends and family members no longer makes any sense. The many sacrifices such as giving up holidays, birthdays, voting, college, sports, casual dating, facial hair, yoga, etc etc start to look foolish and perhaps even embarrassing. Allowing a loved one to die by refusing a blood transfusion now seems preposterous. Watching a good,moral person be labeled and shunned solely based on their walking away from a religious institution now seems grossly unfair and extremely unchristian. Once again though, by fully believing that the WT Society IS God's True Faith all of these things are tolerable. Take that faith away and none of it makes sense any longer.

The bible writers CLAIMED that what they wrote was inspired of God. (2Tim 3:16,17 and 2Peter 1:20,21 and Acts 3:21). And the things that has been written by those bible writers has proven truly inspired. It has withstood the test of time. It nails things down correctly. The weather systems are correctly explained. The earth hangs upon nothing and is a sphere, it tells us. A little wine is good for the stomach, which is true. Prophecies fulfilled, one after another after another. Now, there are very solid reasons then to believe that the bible has God's approval and backing and is inspired. This is why I am still a Christian today. What all those bible writers said about Jesus COULD be made up, I'd suppose that's possible. But these Gospel stories have a very honest believability to them. They admit mistakes, arguments and conflicts. Peter denying Jesus. Paul and Barnabas burst of anger. The Apostles arguing who's the greatest again and again,David's sin with Bath-sheba and then Uriah.The many BAD Israelite Kings along with many other similar accounts. The fact that our very own calendar is based on the very year Jesus was born adds to my own reasons to believe he really existed. Secular historian Josephus testifies to Jesus existence as well. Again, the bible gives thinking people sound reason to believe it is indeed from a powerful, heavenly source. It does appear to many, to be God's thoughts rather than men's.

Contrast this with the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY now. They too claim that what is written is food from God, and that this organization is the ONLY place to go for eternal salvation:

1919 "Is not the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society the one and only channel which the Lord has used in dispensing his truth continually since the beginning of the harvest period?" {WT Apr 1 1919 6414}

1933 "To feed or teach his people the Lord has used the Watch Tower publications.. No man is given any credit for the wonderful truths which the Lord has revealed to his people through the Watch Tower publications." {WT Dec 1 1933 263}

1939 "It should be expected that the Lord would have a means of communicating to his people on the earth, and he has clearly shown that the magazine called The Watchtower is used for that purpose." {YEAR 1939 85}

1942 "The Watchtower does not consist of men's opinions" {WT Jan 1 1942 5}

1957 "Jehovah has established a very definite channel of communication through which he deals with his people .. It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the 'slave' as we would to the voice of God." {WT Jun 15 1957 370}

1969 "Jehovah's organization as directed by his 'faithful and discreet slave' class should influence our every decision also. {WT March 15, 1969 172}

1979 [Of those living at the time of Armageddon, only Jehovah's Witnesses will be saved] {WT Feb 15 1979 30}

Watchtower 2/15/1983 page 12: "A third requirement is that we be associated with God’s channel, his organization. God has always used an organization. For example, only those in the ark in Noah’s day survived the Flood, and only those associated with the Christian congregation in the first century had God’s favor. (Acts 4:12) Similarly, Jehovah is using only **ONE** organization today to accomplish his will. **To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it**.

Watchtower 9/15/93 page 22 : "But if we were to draw away from Jehovah's organization, there would be **NO PLACE ELSE TO GO FOR SALVATION**"...

Walk by Faith

We must also be firmly persuaded that Jehovah is leading us by means of his visible organization under the direction of “the faithful and discreet slave.”(Matt. 24:45-47) We demonstrate our faith when we are “obedient to those who are taking the lead” in the congregation.(Heb. 13:17) Humbly working in cooperation with the theocratic arrangement manifests our trust in Jehovah.

Beware of “the Voice of Strangers”

Obeying Jehovah’s voice also means obeying Jesus’ voice, for Jehovah himself told us to do so.(Matthew 17:5) What does Jesus, the Fine Shepherd, tell us to do? He teaches us to make disciples and (((to trust “the faithful and discreet slave)))).”

OKAY, fine, they have made the claim then that they alone have God's backing. I believed it for almost 20 years. But where is the PROOF of such a claim? And what then happens to such a claim when the very same organization making such claims also says this:

1874 "Surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of God that the Lord Jesus is present and has been since 1874." {WT Jan 1 1924 5}

1898 "God .. evidently has been a respecter of races, and has specially blessed and favored certain branches of the Aryan race in Europe and America.. the white race has been more abundantly blessed with the light of the Gospel than others .. the elect Church will probably be composed chiefly of the highly favored white race.." {EVOL 30-1}

1900 "There are probably as many as a hundred colored brethren on the Watch Tower lists, some of them very clear in the truth, and very earnest in its service, financially and other-wise .. [but they are not allowed to participate in the "pioneer work" as] although we have received letters from several of these, who had intended engaging in the volunteer work, expressing surprise that in the call for volunteers in the March 1, 1900 issue we restricted the inquiry to white Protestant churches. .. The reason is that so far as we are able to judge, colored people have less education than whites - many of them quite insufficient to permit them to profit by such reading as we have to give forth. Our conclusion therefore is based upon the supposition that reading matter distributed to a colored congregation would more than half of it be utterly wasted, and a very small percentage indeed likely to yield good results. We advise, therefore, that where the Watch Tower literature is introduced to colored people it be not by promiscuous circulation, but only to those who give evidence of some ear for the truth. We avoid, so far as possible, putting the pearls of present truth into the hands of the vicious and depraved .." {ZWT Apr 15 1900 122}

1902 "The Negro Not a Beast .. that Ham's characteristics which had led him to unseemly conduct disrespectful to his father, would be found cropping out later, inherited by his son, and prophetically he foretold that this degeneracy would mark the posterity of Canaan, degrading him, making him servile. We are not able to determine to a certainty that the sons of Ham and Canaan are negroes; but we consider that general view as probable as any other.. We are not to forget, either, that Africa is inhabited by various tribes or nations of negroes - some more and some less degraded than the average.. While it is true that the white race exhibits some qualities of superiority over any other, we are to remember that there are wide differences in the same Caucasian (Semitic and Aryan) family.. The secret of the greater intelligence and aptitude of the Caucasian undoubtedly in great measure is to be attributed to the commingling of blood amongst its various branches; and this was evidently forced in large measure by circumstances under divine control. It remains to be proven that the similar commingling of the various tribes of Chinese for several centuries would not equally brighten their intellects; and the same with the peoples of India and Africa." {ZWT Jul 15 1902 216}

1908 The negro and Latin races will probably always be inclined to superstition." {ZWT Apr 1 1908 99}

1910 [Expected "Rapture of the Saints", based on measurements in corridor in the Great Pyramid of Gizeh] {TKIC 364} [Omitted in TKIC post-1910 editions]

1913"Some have a strong desire to worship God, others have a weak desire, and others have no desire at all. This difference is due to the shape of the brain. Mankind are born with differences in this respect. -'Psa. 51:5'" {WR Mar 15 1913 5201} [Returning to phrenology, belief that shape of the skull and hence the brain determine character - see 1907 and 1915]

1914 "And, with the end of A.D. 1914, what God calls Babylon, and what men call Christendom, will have passed away, as is already shown from prophecy." {TKIC 153}

1914 "When Uranus and Jupiter meet in the humane sign of Aquarius in 1914, the long-promised era will have made a fair start in the work of setting man free to work out his own salvation, and will insure the ultimate realization of dreams and ideals of all poets and sages in history." {WT May 1 1903/6 130-1 repr 3184}

1915 "The 'battle of the great day of God Almighty' (Rev. 16:14) which will end in A.D. 1915 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already commenced. The gathering of the armies is plainly visible from the standpoint of God's word." {TIAH 1915 ed 101} [original TIAH used "1914" instead of "1915"]

1915 "In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915. {TIAH 1915 ed 99}

1915 "Man's head is shaped differently; therefore he can think of subjects about which the lower animals cannot think .. A man with a head of a given shape cannot think with the same breadth of mind as a man with a better shaped head - a man who is less fallen. Some have lost more, others less, of the original perfection, of the original intelligence, given man in his creation." {WR Jan 15 1915 5611} [Returning to phrenology, belief that shape of the skull and hence the brain determine character - see 1907 and 1913]

1918 "The parallel, therefore, would establish definitely that the harvest would close forty years thereafter; to wit, in the spring of A.D. 1918. If this is true, and the evidence is very conclusive that it is true, then we have only a few months in which to labor before the great night settles down when no man can work." {WR Oct 1 1917 6149}

1918 "[False religion, especially Christendom, to be destroyed. Demons would enter the minds of clergy, the] swine class [causing them to do stupid things that provokes] the masses [to destroy them] .. It seems conclusive that the hour of Nominal Zion's travail is fixed for the Passover of 1918. (See Rev. 3:14.) That will be 7 years prior to 1925. At that time there is every reason to believe the fallen angels will invade the minds of many of the Nominal Church people, driving them to exceedingly unwise conduct and leading to their destruction at the hands of the enraged masses, who will later be dragged to the same fate.. {TFIM 128-9}

1919 "Is not the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society the one and only channel which the Lord has used in dispensing his truth continually since the beginning of the harvest period?" {WT Apr 1 1919 6414}

1919 "NEGRO EDUCATION IN CINCINNATI. Blacks from all over the city go to this school by preference. They feel that they can get the best chance by staying in their own crowd, and they are probably right.. While it is true that 'of one blood God hath made all nations of men,' nevertheless under present imperfect conditions a wise segregation is probably an advantage to all concerned." {GA Oct 1 1919 8}

GA advocated the Grape Cure which was purported to cure cancer by fasting and only eating grapes, which (according to its founder, Johanna Brandt, who the Society endorsed) worked because grapes were 'magnetic' and rejuvenated your mind with the sun's healing 'vibrations']

1923 "But the dog-rabies-vaccine imposition is the latest.. Rabies! When it has been shown conclusively that there is no such thing as rabies [hydrophobia]!.. a mental hoax .. Vaccination, summed up, is the most unhygienic, barbaric, filthy, abhorrent, and most dangerous system of infection known. No doubt many boys and girls who read this book will live to see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Daniel, and those other men of old come forth in the glory of their better resurrection, of perfect in mind and body. It will not take long for Christ to appoint them to their post of honor and authority as his earthly representatives. The world and all the present conveniences will seen strange to them at first, but they will soon become accustomed to the new methods. 1927 "Be it known once and for all that those profiteering, conscienceless, selfish men who call themselves Jews, and who control the greater portion of the finances of the world and the business of the world, will never be the rulers in this new earth. 1929 "Is there anything in the Bible that reveals the origin of the Negro? It is generally believed that the curse which Noah pronounced upon Canaan was the origin of the Black race. Certain it is that when Noah said, 'Cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren,' he pictured the future of the Colored race. They have been and are a race of servants .. There is no servant in the world as good as a good colored servant, and the joy that he gets from rendering faithful service is one of the purest joys there is in the world." {GA Jul 24 1929 702}

Hence the practice of vaccination is a crime, an outrage and a delusion." {GA May 1 1929 502} [Vaccinations were also stated by the Society to be a "direct violation of the everlasting covenant" and Witnesses were told not to have any - until WT Dec 15 1952 764 "The matter of vaccination is one for the individual that has to face it to decide for himself ... our Society cannot afford to be drawn into the affair legally or take the responsibility for the way the case turns out ... all objection to vaccination on scriptural grounds seems to be lacking."]

1929 "At San Diego, California, there is a small piece of land, on which, in the year 1929 there was built a house, which is called and known as Beth Sarim. The Hebrew words Beth Sarim mean 'House of the Princes'; and the purpose of acquiring that property and building the house was that there are those on earth today who fully believe in God and Christ Jesus and in His Kingdom, and who believe that the faithful men of old will soon be resurrected by the Lord, be back on earth, and take charge of the visible affairs of earth. The title to Beth Sarim is vested in the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society in trust, to be used by the president of the Society and his assistants for the present, and thereafter to be forever at the disposal of the aforementioned princes on the earth .. It stands there as a testimony to Jehovah's name; and when the princes do return, and some of them occupy the property, such will be a confirmation of the faith and hope that induced the building of Beth Sarim." {SALV 311} [Original legal deed to Beth Sarim, by Rutherford, in 1929 stated "Both the grantor and the grantee are fully persuaded from the Bible testimony which is the word of Jehovah God and from extraneous evidence that God's Kingdom is now in the course of establishment and that it will result beneficially for the peoples of earth; that the governing power and authority will be invisible to men but that the kingdom of God will have visible representatives on the earth who will have charge of the affairs of the nations under supervision of the invisible ruler, Christ. That among those who will be thus the faithful representatives and visible governors of the world will be David, who was once King over Israel; and Gideon, and Barak, and Samson, and Jepthai, and Joseph, formerly ruler of Egypt, and Samuel the prophet and other faithful men named with approval in the Bible at Hebrews 11th. chapter."]

The prohibition against blood fractions was then reversed, allowing it in WT Sep 15 1958 575. Then banned again in WT Sep 15 1961 557. Then allowed again in WT Nov 1 1961 669-70. Then banned yet again with "Any fraction of blood considered as a nutrient not to be used in medical treatment." in WT Feb 15 1963 123-4. And partially reversed in AWAK Aug 22 1965 18. But AWAK Feb 22 1975 30 may have reimposed it. Then grudgingly allowed for haemophiliacs in WT Jun 15 1978 20 and expanded on in BSYL 27. Finally, and many deaths later, came in 1982 "Witness religious understanding does not absolutely prohibit the use of components such as albumin, immune globulins, and hemophiliac preparations; each Witness must decide individually if he can accept these." {AWAK Jun 22 1982 25}? 1961 "The blood in any person is in reality the person himself.. poisons due to personal living, eating and drinking habits .. The poisons that produce the impulse to commit suicide, murder, or steal are in the blood. 1961 "[ Taking [a] blood transfusion [is] grounds for disfellowshipping." {WT 1961 63-4}

1961 "Regardless of whether it is whole blood or a blood substance that is involved, God's law remains the same." {BMLG 14} [Why then 13 years later, and only in a footnote, did appear "When this happens, the serum might be administered." {WT Jun 1 1974 351} ? To compound the matter, "This journal and it's companion, The Watchtower, have commented consistently on the matter .. some Christians have concluded that to them it does not seem a violation of Bible law .. The decision whether to take RhIG [Rhogam serum] remains finally, though, a matter for each Christian couple to decide conscientiously." {AWAK Dec 8 1984 27}]

1961 "The foretold events having begun A.D. 1914, the generation of mankind that is still alive from that year is the generation meant by Jesus Christ." {WT Apr 15 1961 236}

1964 "Pay Attention to Prophecy .. for God has on earth today a prophetlike organization, .. Jehovah's anointed witnesses on earth." {WT Oct 1 1964 601}

1967 "When men of science conclude that this normal process will no longer work and they suggest removing the organ and replacing it directly with an organ from another human, this is simply a shortcut. Those who submit to such operations are thus living off the flesh of another human. That is cannibalistic. However, in allowing man to eat animal flesh Jehovah God did not grant permission for humans to try to perpetuate their lives by cannibalistically taking into their bodies human flesh, whether chewed or in the form of whole organs or body parts taken from others." {WT Nov 15 1967 702-4} [See 1968 entry for further light]

1968 ".. Christian Witnesses of Jehovah .. consider all transplants between humans as cannibalism." {AWAK Jun 8 1968 21} [Amazingly this 1968 item got left out of the CD-ROM versions of AWAKE. It contradicted "The question of placing one's body or parts of one's body at the disposal of men of science or doctors at one's death for purposes of scientific experimentation or replacement in others is frowned upon by certain religious bodies. However, it does not seem that any scriptural principle or law is involved. It is therefore something that each individual must decide for himself." {WT Aug 1 1961 480]. it was later reversed in "There is no Biblical command pointedly forbidding the taking in of other human tissue .. It is a matter for personal decision. The congregation judicial committee would not take disciplinary action if someone accepted an organ transplant." {WT Mar 15 1980 31}. So the Society's position changed at least twice, 1961 -> 1968 -> 1980. And further "Accepting a bone marrow transplant is up to your conscience." {WT May 15 1984 31}. As a history of reversals, the blood transfusion saga - see 1956 -]

1968 "As Jesus said, the end would occur in the same generation that saw the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914.-Matt. 24:34" {WT 1968 265} [When did Jesus mention 1914?]

1968 "Jesus was obviously speaking about those who were old enough to witness with understanding what took place when the 'last days' began. Jesus was saying that some of those persons who were alive at the appearance of the `sign of the last days' would still be alive when God brought this system to its end.. Even if we presume that youngsters 15 years of age would be perceptive enough to realize the import of what happened in 1914, it would still make the youngest of 'this generation' nearly 70 years old today. So the great majority of the generation to which Jesus was referring has already passed away in death. The remaining ones are approaching old age. And remember, Jesus said that the end of this wicked world would come before that generation passed away in death." {AWAK Oct 8 1968 13-4} [So the end of the wicked world is very close.. 1975 at the latest, by which time those 15 year olds will be 76, older than any Biblically defined generation]

1968 "True, there have been those in times past who predicted an 'end' to the world, even announcing a specific date. Yet nothing happened. The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing? Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that He was using and guiding them. .. But what about today? Today we have the evidence required, all of it. And it is overwhelming! All the many, many parts of the great sign of the last days are here, together with verifying Bible chronology." {AWAK Oct 8 1968 23} [Incredible then is "Is it not far preferable to make some mistakes because of overeagerness to see God's purposes accomplished...?" {WT Dec 1 1984 1618}]

1969 "In view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous .. Many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarship or employment that promised fine pay. However, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first." {KMIN Jun 1969 3}

1969 "If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling.. True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?" {AWAK May 22 1969 15}} (Those young H.S. grads are now 56 years old)

1969 "Jehovah's organization as directed by his 'faithful and discreet slave' class should influence our every decision also. {WT March 15, 1969 172}

1971 "There is an authentic prophetic class of Christians among us. Jehovah has raised up a genuine 'prophet' within our generation... Who is Ezekiel's present-day counterpart, whose message and conduct correspond with that of that ancient prophet of Jehovah? Of whom today was he a 'sign' or 'portent'? Not of some individual man, but of a group of people.. Who were they?.. they became Jehovah's witnesses." {TNSK 58-9/61/66}

1972 "While both homosexuality and bestiality are disgusting perversions, in the case of neither one is the marriage tie broken" {WT Nov 1 1972 32}

1972 "Does this admission of making mistakes stamp them [Watchtower] as false prophets? Not at all, for false prophets do not admit to making mistakes." {WT Nov 1 1972 644} (Say What??)

1972 "Jehovah, the God of the true prophets, will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self-assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets." {PRTM 353-4}

1974 "If you are a Christian woman, what should you do if, in spite of all precautions, you are set upon by a rapist? If you cannot deter him by reasoning, or by calling upon the name of Jehovah, then what? As a Christian you are under obligation to resist. This resistance includes screaming and creating as much disturbance as possible .. Resistance is imperative, because the rapist is after, not just money, but your virtue. An issue of integrity to Jehovah's laws is involved here. So by no means would it be proper quietly to submit to rape, as that would be consenting to fornication. -1 Thess. 4:3.. Would it be different if the man had a weapon and threatened to kill you if you did not submit? No, the Scriptures plainly state that Christians are under obligation to 'flee from fornication.' (1 Cor. 6:18). It is true that you face the possibility of death in this case.." {AWAK Aug 3 1974 14}

1975 "'How Much Longer Will It Be?' 6,000 Years Completed in 1975 .. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975.. Hence, the fact that we are nearing the end of the first 6,000 years of man's existence is of great significance. Does God's rest day parallel the time man has been on earth since his creation? Apparently so. From the most reliable investigations of Bible chronology, harmonizing with many accepted dates of secular history, we find that Adam was created in the autumn of the year 4026 B.C.E. Sometime in that same year Eve could well have been created, directly after which God's rest day commenced .. There is another chronological indication that we are rapidly nearing the closing time for this wicked system of things. It is the fact that shortly, according to reliable Bible chronology, 6,000 years of human history will come to an end.. After six thousand years of toil and bondage to sin, sickness, death and Satan, mankind is due to enjoy a rest and is in dire need of a rest. (Heb. 4:1-11) Hence, the fact that we are nearing the end of the first 6,000 years of man's existence is of great significance.. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975. This is worthy of notice, particularly in view of the fact that the 'last days' began in 1914, and that the physical facts of our day in fulfillment of prophecy mark this as the last generation of this wicked world. So we can expect the immediate future to be filled with thrilling events for those who rest their faith in God and his promises. It means that within relatively few years we will witness the fulfillment of the remaining prophecies that have to do with the 'time of the end.'" {AWAK Oct 8 1966 19-20}

1975 "Interestingly, the autumn of the year 1975 marks the end of 6,000 years of human experience. {WT May 1 1967 262}

1975 "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO 1975? .. What about all this talk concerning the year 1975? Lively discussions, some based on speculation, have burst into flame during recent months among serious students of the Bible. Their interest has been kindled by the belief that 1975 will mark the end of 6,000 years of human history since Adam's creation in the fall of the year 1975, a little over seven years from now .. it will be 6,000 years since the creation of Adam." {WT Aug 15 1968 494}

1975 Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end. {KMIN May 1974 3}

1975 ".. millions of people now living will see the 'day' of Christ's coming to mete out justice upon this system of things .." {WT Jan 1 1975 11}

1975 [NO MENTION!] {HIS2 Section 'Notable Dates' - Official 1993 version of WTBTS's history of predictions}

1975-6 "Adam at age 130 had a son, Seth .. Eve at age 130 had a son, Seth" {AID 333/538} [hence the difference in age between Adam and Eve is shown to be less than one year. So the postponement of the '1975 prediction' claimed in ASII 286 etc. can at most be more one year i.e. to 1976, as also claimed in WT Aug 15 1968 499. These previous statements are ignored in WT Jul 1976 436]

1976 "They do not claim infallibility or perfection. Neither are they inspired prophets." {WT May 15 1976 297} [1975 prediction having just failed]

1976 "It is a serious matter to represent God and Christ in one way, then find that our understanding of the major teachings and fundamental doctrines of the Scriptures was in error, and then after that, to go back to the very doctrines that, by years of study, we had thoroughly determined to be in error. Christians cannot be vacillating - 'wishy washy' - about such fundamental teachings. What confidence can one put in the sincerity or judgment of such persons?" {WT May 15 1976 298}

1976 "It may be that some who have been serving God have planned their lives according to a mistaken view of just what was to happen on a certain date or in a certain year. They may have, for this reason, put off or neglected things that they otherwise would have cared for. But they have missed the point of the Bible's warnings concerning the end of this system of things, thinking that Bible chronology reveals the specific date.. it is not advisable for us to set our sights on a certain date, neglecting everyday things we would ordinarily care for as Christians, such as things that we and our families really need. We may be forgetting that, when the 'day' comes, it will not change the principle that Christians must at all times take care of all their responsibilities. If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." {WT Jul 15 1976 440-1}

1977 ".. many a person might decline blood simply because it is essentially an organ transplant that at best is only partially compatible with his own blood." {JWQB 41}

1979 [Of those living at the time of Armageddon, only Jehovah's Witnesses will be saved] {WT Feb 15 1979 30}

1982 ' (Matthew 24:34, 14) Which generation did Jesus mean? He meant the generation of people who were living in 1914. Those persons yet remaining of that generation are now very old. However, some of them will still be alive to see the end of this wicked system. So of this we can be certain: Shortly now there will be a sudden end to all wickedness and wicked people at Armageddon." {YCLF 154}

1984 "Some of that 'generation [of 1914]' could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that 'the end' is much closer than that!" {WT Mar 1 1984 18-9}

1984 "Generally rapists try to get a woman in some isolated place where people are not around. At times they have a weapon and threaten to use it if the victim does not co-operate. Should a Christian quietly submit? No.. the rapist is asking a person to break God's law by committing fornication. Under such circumstances a Christian is obligated to resist. -1 Corinthians 6:18.. 'If I gave in and he raped me, I would eventually die and have no hope of a resurrection.'" {AWAK Feb 22 1984 24-7

1988 "The three essentials for establishing the credentials of a true prophet, as given through Moses, were: The true prophet would speak in Jehovah's name; the things foretold would come to pass (De 18:20-22); and his prophesying must promote true worship" {INS2 696}

1989 "Before the 1914 generation completely dies out, God's judgment must be executed." {WT May 1 1985 4}

1989 "Most of the generation of 1914 has passed away. However, there are still millions on earth who were born in that year or prior to it.. Jesus' words will come true, 'this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened.. J. A. Bengel states in his New Testament Word Studies: 'The Hebrews . . . reckon seventy-five years as one generation, and the words, shall not pass away, intimate that the greater part of that generation [of Jesus' day] indeed, but not the whole of it, should have passed away before all should be fulfilled.'" {WT Apr 8 1988 14

1990 "Adult Christians too can be disappointed, and this has in some cases led to spiritual disaster. Some set their hope on a date when they were sure Armageddon would come. When nothing happened on that day, they felt let down." {WT Apr 15 1990 27} (Over and over and over again)

1990 "For over a century, delightful, correct words of truth covering every aspect of life have been presented in the Watch Tower Society's publications .." {WT Dec 15 1990 26} (check out these words of "truth" above]

1991 "['Awake' is] for the enlightenment of the entire family. It shows how to cope with today's problems, It reports the news, tells about people in many lands, examines religion and science. But it does more. It probes beneath the surface and points to the real meaning behind current events, yet it always stays politically neutral and does not exalt one race above another. Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away." {AWAK Feb 22 1991 4)

1992 "Before the 1914 generation passes away, the Kingdom-preaching work will have accomplished its purpose." {WT May 1 1992 7}

1992 "The Watchtower .. Since 1879 this magazine has grown in circulation to over 15 million copies semimonthly in 111 languages. It directs individuals to the Bible's promise that some of the generation of 1914 will be alive to see good physical and spiritual health restored to mankind. (Isaiah 33:24) The entire earth will be transformed into a paradise by millions of willing volunteers. (Psalm 37:29)" {WT Aug 15 1992 9}

1993 "Jehovah's Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus' second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect.. Never did they say, 'These are the words of Jehovah.'" {AWAK Mar 22 1993 4} (Say what??)

1993 "Jehovah's Witnesses are accused by their enemies of breaking up families. True, there are cases of families that become divided when one or more members become Jehovah's Witnesses.. If a mixed marriage breaks up, the initiative almost always comes from the non-Witness partner." {WT Jul 1 1993 15 (This is not true)

1994 "It is not reasonable to expect that present favorable conditions for preaching the good news will continue indefinitely Besides, did not Jesus say that this generation will not pass away until all things are fulfilled? A generation, according to Psalm 90:10, is from seventy to eighty years. The generation that witnessed the end of the Gentile Times in 1914 does not have many more years left." {WT Dec 1 1968 715} [1914 + 80 = 1994]

1995 "Why Awake! is Published .. Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away." {AWAK for seven and a half years up to Oct 22 1995}

1995 "Why Awake! is Published .. Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things." {AWAK from Nov 8 1995} [reference to '1914 generation' deleted]

1995 "Rather than providing a rule for measuring time, the term 'generation' as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics." {WT Nov 1 1995 17} [cutting the link to the promise that the generation of 1914 will see Armageddon, and preparing the reader for the change to the declaration in AWAK]

1999 "Since sterilization procedures are now said to be reversible on request, might a Christian view them as [an acceptable] birth-control option? .. Christians [should] shape their thinking and deeds by God's esteem for reproductive potential. (1 Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:8; 2:2, 5-8) This would reflect mature sensitivity to Scriptural indications. Yet, what if it became publicly known that a Christian blithely disregarded God's evaluations? Would not others doubt whether he (or, she) was a good example, having a reputation of making decisions in harmony with the Bible? Such a disturbing blemish on one's reputation could, of course, affect a minister's being qualified for special privileges of service.." {WT Jun 15 1999 27-8} [So no change since WT 1975 158-60. A vasectomy without serious medical cause in 1999 is a disturbing blemish on one's reputation in the eyes of the Society, carrying with it sanctions]

1999 "The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century." {WT Jan 1 1989 12} [bound volume changed "20th century" to "day"]

1999 ".. there are many indications that 'the end' is much closer than that [the turn of the century]" {WT Mar 1 1984 18-9}

1999 "Shortly, within our twentieth century, the 'battle in the day of Jehovah' will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom." {TNSK 216}

2000 "For the year 2000, I visualize a world transformed into a beautiful paradise! But I don't think that either the present world or its rulers will live to see that day.. We are living in the last days of the system of things." {AWAK Nov 8 1986 78}

2000-1 "If the wicked system of this world survived until the turn of the century [the year 2001 ?], which is highly improbable in view of world trends and the fulfillment of Bible prophecy, there would still be survivors of the World War I generation. However, the fact that their number is dwindling is one more indication that 'the conclusion of the system of things' is moving fast toward its end." {WT Oct 15 1980 31}

And this is an abbreviated list. Go here for the  full list: http://www1.tip.nl/~t661020/wtcitaten/part1.htm

So,we can see:

The end of the system was predicted, in writing, in these years: 1914, 1915, (could occur in 1920), 1925, ("resurrection of Princes" in 1929), ("any day now" in 1942), ("why not now" in 1951), 1975, and before the generation that was born in 1914 dies, which was dropped in 1996 after it was clearly another false prediction and the year 2000. Every one of these predictions, in writing, has proven false.

People sold homes, gave up opportunities to start families, secure employment, gave up opportunities for an education and instead spread a message of doom that was simply untrue with each prediction made. All of these failed.

The WT Society has a long history of medical mistakes such as not allowing vaccinations and organ transplants and now the complete fiasco on blood and blood fractions. We also have the Alternative Service prohibition which was in force for 50 years, where tens of thousands of JW's went to prison rather than accept non-combat alternatives to military service solely because they were assigned by the military. This was reversed in 1996.

Despite the numerous errors in doctrine, medical mistakes, weird science end of the world false predictions and unscriptural blood transfusion bans that fill its pages of history, the society still demands full and complete support of its policies and doctrines today. Notice this comment from a 5/1/72 WT (page 272): "That they [Jehovah's Witness] must adhere absolutely to the decisions and scriptural understandings of the Society because God has given it this authority over his people."

So, in the end, we have what many would consider as extremely damaging facts that undermine the Watchtower Society's claim that it alone is God's one true faith on earth today. That core belief is in my opinion the GLUE that keeps everything else together. Without THAT foundation of belief that this religious organization IS the one truth on earth, everything else involved with the religion begins to fall apart. The willingness to be loyal despite doubts lessens and lessens.

This is also why the Watchtower Society strongly discourages any kind of out-of-house critical examinations. These examinations often expose the very poor historical record. It is also, in the opinion of many, why those that formally leave the faith are considered apostate and have to be shunned. This shunning policy minimizes the possibility of critical information from being shared with other JW's.

When I personally learned about the mistakes on Vaccinations and Organ Transplants it simply damaged the credibility of the organization as a whole. It was at that point that an honest, THOROUGH examination of the Watchtower Society began on my part. An examination that only made things much, much worse in the end. If this is God's true and only channel, how then can they be so wrong, so often, on doctrine, medical issues, end of the world predictions, and yet still demand complete obedience from its members or face risk of complete shunning? This is also why I chose to leave the faith altogether one year ago. The bible has no such list of wacky opinions, medical blunders or false prophecies despite being written thousands of years ago. The Watchtower history on the other hand is FILLED with these very things; wacky ideas, medical embarrassments and many false end of the world statements. All written within the last 100 or so years. This is a big problem for the WT Society.

In addition to all of the past mistakes and embarassing writings, there is also still the CURRENT list of issues. Here are just a few:

CURRENTLY Witnesses cannot even disagree today with today's current WT teachings without risk of being disfellowshipped.

CURRENTLY Witnesses cannot formally leave (disassociate) from the WT Society without being shunned and punished by all JW's, including your own family for the rest of their life.

CURRENTLY NO brother wearing a beard is allowed congregational privileges. This policy is actually a CONTRAST to bible teachings

CURRENTLY NO Witness is allowed to celebrate his or anybody's birthday without risk of expulsion. This policy is found nowhere in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO Witness is allowed to vote or run for office without risk of being expelled. This policy is found nowhere in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO Witness can celebrate Mothers Day Fathers Day, Thanksgiving, New Years Day 4th of July or many other holidays without risk of being expelled. Not found in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO Witness is allowed to work as a police officer or any other occupation where he carries a firearm and remain exemplary (or be used in the cong). Not in the bible. Used as a protection and to maintain order.

CURRENTLY NO Witness that plays sports in school, becomes a cheerleader or joins after school clubs is viewed favorably. Organized sports are spoken against.

CURRENTLY ALL Sisters are expected to wear dresses to all meetings and field service. No pants, jumpsuits, shorts etc. allowed. Not found anywhere in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO Witness can play the lottery without risk of expulsion. Nowhere found in the bible

CURRENTLY NO Witness is allowed to participate in Martial Arts or Yoga. This policy is found nowhere in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO Witness that owns his own business can perform any services on any church or military institutions. This policy is found nowhere in the bible.

CURRENTLY NO JW that averages less than double digits in the ministry qualifies for congregational responsibilities. (You can dip occasionally below but not on an average basis).

CURRENTLY one cannot accept a whole blood transfusion without being disfellowshipped even if dying is the likely result. Yet one can accept certain fractions of blood, even though other smaller oftentimes more vital fractions are not allowed. JW's do use these fractions taken from the worlds blood supply, often in great quantity, yet are not allowed to donate blood back into this very same blood supply they have taken from. And CURRENTLY Witnesses are not even allowed to withdraw and store their OWN blood for surgery or other emergencies.

CURRENTLY there is the Watctower's official website page of hypocrisy where all others are encouraged to examine their own faith, be willing to make a stand, even if different yet if a Witness does this very same thing they will be expelled.

CURRENTLY no bible study is told of all the past medical mistakes that cost thousands of lives, nor that the JW's mis-predicted the end of the world a dozen times, nor that thousands of brothers went to prison for refusing alternative service for 50 years before being made "conscience" matters. They are also never told that if you choose to leave the organization you will be shunned for the rest of your life unless you come back in full agreement with all current teachings. Nor are they ever told they cannot disagree with any current teachings. Bible studies will never know these things. I have personally found this out the hard way.

This is only a condensed version of some of the current unscriptural policies forced on all JW's today.

THE WATCHTOWER HATES CHRISTENDOM!

"A Worldwide Message" from the JWs

Part 2--refuting “The End of False Religion is Near”,

I am back and ready to dissect the next part of “The End of False Religion is Near”, put out by the Watchtower Society this past fall. The next section targets “false religion” in three areas, claiming that it “meddles in war and politics”, “spreads false doctrine”, and “tolerates immoral sex”. Let’s examine the first of these claims and see what the referenced scriptures really say.

meddles in war and politics – This section pieces together snippets of quotes from sources with no specific references provided for verification purposes. Furthermore, since the Watchtower Society takes God’s word intentionally out of context in order to try to substantiate their points, we know they must not be above doing the same with secular sources. Without being able to check these sources, I do not put stock in any supposed quotes the Watchtower uses. It has been proven time and again that they misquote sources. And, frankly, taken out of context, anyone can make anything say whatever they want it to—especially when “circular reasoning” is applied. * (see below).

One source, they claim, says that “power hungry leaders are cynically manipulating people’s religious sentiments for their own needs”. First of all, what does that have to do with the main title, “False Religion”? The accusation is against political leaders, not against religion itself or its leaders. It says they (political leaders) are manipulating people’s “religious sentiments”, NOT that they are manipulating world religions—this is an important distinction because, later on in the flier, they try to make a case that all politicians and all religions (other than the JWs of course) are bedfellows. They even misapply Revelation chapter 17 to make their point. (But more on that later).

Next, they quote “a prominent religious leader” as saying that we need to kill the terrorists before the killing will stop. Well, I think that’s pretty much been the sentiment of the entire country since 911. After 911, it became obvious to everyone that a passive approach with these terrorists was no longer effective. Perhaps some people feel it is inappropriate for a “religious leader” to make such statements, but we are all only human after all and 911 was such a horrific tragedy that many of us said things that were spoken in a highly emotional state. Regardless, this religious leader they say they are quoting remains nameless in the flier—another reference we are unable to substantiate.

Now, I ask you this: What do the scriptures they quote herein have to do with WAR??? The references they quote speak about loving your brother and not hating your enemies. It’s not as though most of us hate the Arab race because of the acts of some Arab terrorists. However, we DO hate the terrorist acts that have caused the deaths of thousands of innocent people. Furthermore, after 911, we all realized that the terrorists were going to have to be stopped or else they would continue to threaten us on our own soil with even more terrorist acts. I personally do not see a contradiction between these sentiments and the scriptural admonitions to love our brothers and pray for our enemies.

The Watchtower, as usual, compares apples and oranges, in this instance, to prove the point they are trying to make—that religion is behind all of the world’s problems and that religious leaders are promoting the war effort. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Incidentally, in the Old Testament, God Himself repeatedly allowed the nation of Israel to defend itself from pagan attackers around them. They were even allowed to exact revenge on other nations who had attacked them at a previous time. God’s blessing was always on the leaders of the Hebrew armies so long as they went to war at a time when they were in good standing with God. They were allowed to exact “an eye for an eye” and a “tooth for a tooth” from the enemies that smote them.

The paragraph dealing with war and politics sums up with a question to the reader: “How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?” Of course, our soldiers come from every denomination—except one: Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Watchtower Society does not allow its people to participate in politics of any type. They, supposedly, maintain a firm “neutral” stand on such issues. Not entirely true, however, they would like us to believe that. Once again, the circular reasoning technique brings us back to the WTS. They are saying, in essence, “This makes US the only true religion, since we are the only ones not participating in the war effort.” Once again, apples and oranges. The fact that they re-wrote the Bible, believe an entirely different Gospel than the one Christ preached, and think Christ was only “a widely respected religious figure”, has nothing to do with whether or not they are the “only true religion”, I guess. Go figure.

When I return, we will dissect the next paragraph that claims that false religion “Spreads False Doctrine”

*Circular reasoning is just like playing the child’s game of “telephone”—by the time what is said is passed down the line through a series of slight alterations, it no longer resembles what it was at the start. The Watchtower is famous for this technique! Every change is so subtle, that, if you are not paying strict attention or do not know what to look for, you won’t be able to see what is happening. No wonder the average JW at the door can easily twist most people into theological knots in 2.8 seconds! They are vigorously taught this technique. Attempting to refute doctrine with them is definitely not for those who are faint of heart.

Part 3-refuting "The End-of-False-Religion" flier

SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE--under this next heading, the WTS claims that "many of these religions exploit their members, charging money to pray for departed souls". And so begins their attempt to refute the Bible doctrine of a spirit after-life--by stating something from history, rather than from Bible doctrine.

First of all, the author of this paragraph needs to learn a little bit of church history. To wit, the sale of, what was called "indulgences" only occurred in the Catholic Church--not in all (or even "many") Christian religions. This practice, which was affirmed by the Catholic church in 1343, was the chief concern of Martin Luther and the chief cause of the Protestant Reformation. In 1517, Luther published his 95 Theses that criticised the Catholic Church on many issues, including its practice of selling indulgences. As a result of Luther and other Protestant reformers, the church became divided. The Protestants left the church and became "Protestant" (because they "protested" these practices). The practice of indulgences was NEVER practiced within the denominations that broke away from the mother church. Furthermore, it has fallen out of practice in the Catholic church of today, as well.

Now let's examine the claim that the Bible "teaches a different doctrine" than that of life after death. Let's look at the scriptures the JW flier uses to state their case. Let's look first at Ezekiel 18:4, in context. Let's back up to the beginning of the passage and start in verse 1. The heading of this passage, in my Scofield Reference King James Version summarizes this passage as "God's justice defended: personal judgement for personal sin". The passage is about personal accountability, to wit, the Israelites were complaining that the sons were made to pay for the sins of thier fathers. God says He will not give them occassion any longer to make that accusation--from now on, each person would be personally accountable for his own actions. In verse 4 he says, "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sinneth, it shall die." God is basically saying that it is His right to judge as He sees fit. And, we know from the rest of scripture, that His penalty for sin is death. The whole point of Christ coming to earth to die in our stead is to save us from having to pay that penalty ourselves, since we are sinful creatures by nature (Compare Romans 6:21-23). This passage is NOT saying that when we die, we are dead forever. The subject of this passage has nothing to do whatsoever with any life-after-death doctrine, either pro or con. It is simply stating that God's penalty for sin is death. Even if the point was unclear in this passage, it would be evident from the whole of scripture and from the general context of the passage.

The next passage the flier quotes is Ecclesiates 9:5. This verse is a favorite staple in the JW arsenal when the subject of life after death is on the table. Let's examine what the verse really says. Frist, let me say that, while evangelical scholars may interpret this verse differently, one thing they do all agree on is that it does NOT teach the absence of a conscious existance after death. Now let's look at the reason that the book of Ecclesiates was written: King Solomon, son of David, authored the book and it reflects his experiences. Two views are contrasted in the book: God's view and fallen man's view. Solomon begins this work by stating that everything in the life of man is vanity (Eccl. 1:2)--it is only emptyness without God in it. The tone of the book, at its outset, is one of sadness, one of a man looking back upon his life with a bit of regret. By the latter half of the book, once God's view is expressed, the tone becomes one of victory. Beneath this pretext, we examine the verse in question, which falls in the first half of the book, the half that describes man's earthly perspective, without the benefit of divine revelation.

In verse 5, Solomon says that the dead know nothing, and verse 6 adds that "they have no more forever any share in all that is done under the sun" (Revised Standard Version). Now, even the JWs believe in a future resurrection to this earth ("under the sun"). See how, taken in context, it tells a different story?

In addition, verse 2 voices the thought that "one fate comes to all, to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil". Taken alone, it would seem that this verse is at variance with the whole of scripture. We know that the rest of scripture clearly denotes separate fates for the righteous and the unrighteous. Therefore, it is plain to see that the entire passage reflects the view of dejected mankind with a faithless point of view. This verse does NOT teach God's truth, but imperfect man's viewpoint, apart from God. Since this is the case, it cannot be used to support the JW doctrine of no conscious existance post-death.

For the JW to say that "knowing nothing" after death, means man is unconscious after death then, to be consistant, they would also have to say that the phrase "neither have they anymore reward" means there will be no resurrection or future reward post-death (something the JW do believe!) If the Bible is anything, it is consistant. We cannot take a verse or part of it to mean one thing while taking the whole of scripture to mean the direct opposite. The Bible is consistent throughout because it's divine author is consistant. God is"the same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Now, let's examine the last passage spoken of in this section of the flier: John 11: 11-25. The WT says that "Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected--an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul." John 11: 11-25 is the account of Jesus raising his freind, Lazarus back to life. He tells his disciples in verse 11, that Lazarus is sleeping , "but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep." The disciples misunderstand Jesus' words and think Jesus is speaking of literal sleep, when he is actually using it as a metaphor to explain how easily he will be able to raise Lazarus--as easily as waking someone from sleep. Upon entering the house, Jesus has a conversation with Lazarus' sister, Martha, who tells him that she knows Lazarus "shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day" (v. 24)--she has no idea that Jesus is going to resurrect him back in their immediate presence. She is thinking of a future hope, one that OT believers had faith in, and which was revealed by OT prophets (Isa. 26:19; Dan. 12: 2, 13; Hosea 13:14). In fact, there were occassions in the OT when the dead were resurrected to earthly life through a miracle of God as displayed by his prophets (i.e. 1 Kings 17: 17-24).

These earthly resurrections only forshadowed what God would do on a grander scale, not only through the miracles of Jesus and the apostles, but through Christ's own resurrection. However, until Christ was raised from the dead and ascended into heaven, faithful believers were unable to cross the divide into the heavenlies. Christ was the "firstborn" from among the dead (Col. 1:18; Rev. 1:5; 1 Cor. 15:20). His resurrection opened the passage for believers to follow him into heaven; since his death and resurrection, he possesses the "keys of hell and of death" (Rev. 1:18).

Faithful OT believers who had died prior to Christ's death and resurrection, and were thus unable to cross the divide into the heavenlies, still await resurrection to receive their reward (See Hebrews 11: 39, 40), just as unrighteous dead await resurrection to receive their judgement. Therefore, a resurrection IS still necessary, even though we have an immortal soul, according to the Bible. Furthermore, scripture shows that resurrection will be necessary in a bodily sense, although our spirit does not die. Resurrection bodies will be incorruptible, glorious, powerful, and spiritual (1 Cor. 15: 42-44, 49).

More importantly, NOWHERE in the Bible does it teach that the spirit dies with the body. Who is it, therefore, that is spreading a "false doctrine" regarding life after death? The WTS, or believers who believe what God says in His word and take what He says in the context with the whole of scripture?

Tomorrow, I address the heading that accused religion of tolerating "immoral sex". Stay tuned.

Part 4-Refuting “The End of False Religion” flier

Greetings, "Soundness of Mind" readers. Hope you are having a blessed day! Now, on to the next section of the WT’s fall flier. . .

Tolerates Immoral Sex
This topic begins with accusing "church groups" of ordaining gay and lesbian members of the clergy and says that they urge "governments to recognize same-sex marriages." Now, I don’t condemn anyone for how they choose, or don’t choose, to live their lives. I won’t shove my views about a person’s lifestyle down their throat, and I expect the same courtesy. My basic feeling is that it is God’s place, AND HIS ALONE, to judge. He sees the hearts of people, whereas I cannot. Jesus dined with sinners and outcasts, much to the chagrin of everyone around him, reaching out IN LOVE and forgiveness to those who were lost. Never once does scripture tell us that he condemned or berated even the worst of sinners. In fact, if he condemned anyone, it was the haughty Scribes and Pharisees who looked down their self-righteous noses at every one else. I wouldn’t like Him to condemn me for the same reason.

It may be true that there are some church groups who are very liberal about it’s members, and even its clergy’s, lifestyles. On the other end of the spectrum, are the ultra-conservative, evangelical born-again Christians. Whichever way you may lean on "personal choice" issues, is none of my concern. I, myself, am neither an extreme liberal nor an ultra-conservative, but probably somewhere in the middle, doing the best I can and being careful not to pass judgement on people. I do not have the right to play God in another human-being’s life—that is between him and God. Just my opinion.

Having said that, my contention with the Watchtower Society’s flier is that they seem to be intimating that ALL church groups in western lands stand by these practices, and that is just a LIE. Just the WTS, once again, attempting to make themselves look better than everyone else so that they can claim to be the only "true religion." The fact is that the vast majority of Christian churches do NOT approve such practices. How many times have you seen it on the news that this or that prominent, evangelical leader is speaking out against things they consider sexually immoral, whether it be same-sex marriages, abortion, or whatever. They are so publicly outspoken about these matters, in fact, that I can’t even believe the WTS would expect anyone to believe the opposite to be the case. Just another chink in the WT propaganda machine.

Worse, the flier goes on to say that, "even churches that condemn immorality have tolerated religious leaders who have sexually abused children." I can’t believe they are even saying this, when there are countless stories of the WTS not only tolerating this very thing in their midst, but covering up for the perpetrator! They have even gone so far as to accuse the victim of bringing it on themselves, both in cases of child sexual abuse and rape. Worse, they have told the victims that they will be dealt with before the judicial committee if they continue to make such slanderous statements about the perpetrator. This, even in cases where the perpetrator has been accused more than once by different victims. Search around the web, if you don’t believe this to be the case. I have read countless stories like this and have watched videos, including an interview by Connie Chung with two JW young ladies who had been victimized by the same rapist. So when, the paragraph ends these accusations with: "Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?" I want to stand up and scream, "YES, Watch Tower Society! YOU DO!"

Part 5: refuting…

This section: "How Will False Religion End?"

The basis for the argument set forth in this section is Revelation chapter 17. The WTS attempts to interpret the "harlot" spoken of in this chapter as the sum total of all world religions. Once again, they set the reader up for their premise that they are the only true religion and, thus, the only safe haven during the impending battle of Armageddon. But is their identification of this symbolic figure accurate?
While there are slight variations, even among reputable commentators, as to the identity of the "harlot", one thing is for certain: she is NOT Christendom. The term "Christendom" is used to describe the collective Christian world and JWs use it in this instance to, once again, make themselves stand out as separate and above the rest.

I don’t want to get into a long discourse or debate about the identity of the "harlot" here, but I will tell you why I know it is NOT Christendom. It is very simple, really: Revelation chapters 17-19 give a description of the harlot revealing her to be the capital of the anti-Christ’s Satanically empowered city. Whether you subscribe to the ideas presented by commentators who believe this is a literal city, or those who believe it represents the apostate conglomerate, the scriptures are very clear on the reasons she is the object of God’s wrath. Her are a few of them:

Rev. 17: 3 –she joins herself to the beast who is full of blasphemous names
Rev. 17: 6 –She is "drunk" with the blood of the saints and martyrs of Jesus Christ, whos salughter she has sponsored
Rev 18: 23—She deceives the nations with her "sorceries" (Greek: pharmakeia—the ancient art of casting magic spells).
Rev. 18: 2—She is described as a "dwelling place of demons" and "every unclean spirit"
Rev. 18: 7—She is compared to the ancient city of Babylon, because of her haughty, prideful attitude, due to her position as queen of the earth.
Rev. 19: 2—She corrupts the earth by means of her "fornication"—her sinful relationship with the political rulers of the earth—leading the world to worship and support the "beast" (the devil and the anti-Christ)
Rev. 17: 18; 18: 16—the scriptures definitively refer to her as "that great CITY"
Rev. 18: 11-13—Destruction of the city means loss of commercial activity and wealth for the merchants who had dealings with her.
Rev. 18: 20—The apostles, prophets, and saints rejoice at her destruction as God exacts retribution for her mistreatment and mass slaughter of them.

Now, I ask you, as a thinking person: Does this description sound like it is describing the Christian world (certainly not!), or an entity that hates God and blasphemes against Him? Once again, by taking the verses in context, the WT stance is blown out of the water.
The flier states: "God will call false religion to account for all the despicable acts she has committed in His name". I ask you, where is the proof that Christendom has committed despicable acts of the nature described in Revelation?

Now after repetitiously referring to the harlot as "false religion" throughout this section, the WT asks, "Where can you flee", while obeying God’s command in Rev. 18:4 to "get out of her"? They say, "not to Atheism, since its future is also bleak", and they reference 2 Thessalonians 1: 6-9. But that verse describes the WTS as well as anyone, because it speaks of those who "do not know God" and "do not obey the Gospel". If there is anyone that does not KNOW God or obey the Gospel, it is the WTS and its followers, who reject the doctrinal basics about the person of Jesus Christ. It is the WTS and its followers, who pervert His Gospel by changing it as they see fit, in order to coordinate it with their own false doctrines!

Part 6: Refuting…..

Under the heading: "How to identify true religion"

The three main points the WT presents beneath this heading are:

"Practices love"—They claim to have "love among themselves" and "are willing to die for one another". If you believe this, just ask any person who has been shunned by his/her own family because they have left the WTS or have never become part of it. JW families would rather pay homage to the Watch Tower than to show love to their own family members who are either considered too "worldly" to be worthy of association, who have committed a "sin" the elders deem worthy of disfellowshipping, or whom have become "apostate" for voicing dissenting opinions. Ask the families of ex-JWs who have committed suicide because their self-esteem has been dashed by the WT, or because they were shunned by the only "friends" they had when they left the JWs. Ask the rape victims and victims of child sexual abuse who were twice victimized: once by their molester, and again by the elders who blamed and threatened the victim for speaking out. Ask the parents who have had to watch a child die, rather than disobey the WTS’s doctrine regarding no blood transfusions. I could go on and on with this, but I think this will suffice for now.

"Trusts God’s word"—They say that "true religion bases its doctrine on God’s word, the Bible." AMEN! First thing they got right in this flier! Then, why don’t they follow it? I think enough has been said already to prove that they don’t practice what they preach when it comes to this point.

"Strengthens families and upholds high moral standards"—Please see notes under point number one. I think that will be more than sufficient.
The grand finale—this is what the entire flier was leading up to from the first letter: "Does any religion meet these standards?" They ask, before setting off the bells and whistles, declaring the JWs as the answer to this query. I think the record has shown sufficiently that, in the WTS, the actions do not fit the words.

Now, I am certainly not saying that the JWs themselves are bad people. I think that most of them are well-meaning. They have simply been duped by the leaders of the Watchtower Society, who will surely have to answer to God for their misdirection and outright lies. The newer JWs just coming into the organization have no idea about the false prophecies, the occult roots, and the origins of the perverted doctrines they are being taught. The JWs I know got into the mess they are in for one of two reasons: either out of loneliness and a need to belong to a group where they felt cared about, or an honest thirst for the word of God. How convenient that a seemingly well-meaning person offered to come to into their own home and show them "the truth" that is supposedly hidden from everyone else in the world. People who don’t know their Bible, or don’t know it very well, are very susceptible to a well-groomed, pleasant-speaking person who presents his or herself as an authority on the subject.
So, when you see a JW coming to your door, please do not be hostile. He/she is probably a well-meaning person who truly believes what he/she is saying. He/she thinks they can show you the road to salvation, while at the same time, working toward their own salvation. They are truly misguided and need to be shown that salvation is a free gift of God through Jesus Christ. We cannot earn it because we can never be righteous enough, on our own merit, to do so. That was the whole purpose of Christ’s atoning work on the cross.

For those of you who are firmly rooted in Christian doctrine, I encourage you to reach out to the JW at your door in a spirit of Christian love. If you are not, please tread very carefully. A polite, "I’m not interested" will suffice. Then, politely close your door, go inside, and pray that the Holy Spirit will lead such lost souls into the real truth of God’s word. In the end, it is only God that can call a person out of the darkness and into the light. If we are capable, we plant the seed. Then, we let God Almighty do the rest.
Have a blessed weekend. Candy

Was the Watch Tower pro-Hitler?

I received the following information in a forward today. I already knew a little something about the Watchtower Society-Hitler angle. This should be interesting for the purposes of deeper research:

FW: Tell Holocaust Museums to Stop Hiding the Watchtower's Pro-Hitler Stance

>Below is a link to a petition regarding this matter
>http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/watchtower-hitler/
>
>Tell holocaust memorial museums all over the world they should stop hiding the truth about the Watchtower Society’s decades-long anti-Semitic/pro-Hitler stance.
>
>While individual Jehovah’s Witnesses were suffering at the hands of the Nazis, its mother organization was outspokenly supporting Hitler and demeaning Jews.
>
>Tell the museums to add the Watchtower Society’s own publications to their archives. Right now, some museums only include the Watchtower Society’s whitewashed version of its history. Museums should include both, and let its patrons decide for themselves what to believe.
>
>Museums should preserve the facts so humanity doesn’t repeat its past mistakes.
