The oldest surviving copy of the New Testament, a 4th century version that had its Gospels and epistles spread across the world, is being made whole again _ online.

The British Library says the full text of the Codex Sinaiticus will be available to Web users by next July, digitally reconnecting parts that are held in Britain, Russia, Germany and a monastery in Egypt's Sinai Desert.

A preview of the Codex, which also has some parts of the Old Testament, will hit the Web on Thursday _ the Book of Psalms and the Gospel of Mark.

"Only a few people have ever had the opportunity to see more than a couple of pages of the (Codex)," said Scot McKendrick, the British Library's head of Western manuscripts. The Web site will give everyone access to a "unique treasure," he said.

Discovered at the Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai by German Bible scholar Constantine Tischendorf in the mid-19th century, much of the Codex eventually wound up in Russia _ just how exactly the British Library won't say, citing lingering sensitivity over the circumstances surrounding its removal from the monastery.

The British Library bought 347 pages from Soviet authorities in 1933. Forty-three pages are at the University Library in Leipzig, Germany, and six fragments are at the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg. And in 1975, monks stumbled on 12 more pages and 40 fragments stashed in a hidden room at the monastery.

Biblical scholars are thrilled at the news that the Codex Sinaiticus _ divided since Tischendorf's trip to the monastery in 1844 _ is finally being put back together, albeit virtually.

In the past, anyone wishing to examine the document first hand would have had to approach the British Library "on bended knee," said Christopher Tuckett, a professor of New Testament studies at Oxford University.

"To have it available just at the click of a button is fantastic," he said. "You could do in two seconds what would take hours and hours of flicking through the leaves."

Handwritten in Greek more than 1,600 years ago _ it isn't exactly clear where _ the surviving 400 or so pages carry a version of the New Testament that has a few interesting differences from the Bible used by Christians today.

The Gospel of Mark ends abruptly after Jesus' disciples discover his empty tomb, for example. Mark's last line has them leaving in fear.

"It cuts out the post-resurrection stories," said Juan Garces, curator of the Codex Sinaiticus Project. "That's a very odd way of ending a Gospel."

James Davila, a professor of early Jewish studies at St. Andrews University in Scotland, said the Codex also includes religious works foreign to the Roman Catholic and Protestant canons _ such as the "Epistle of Barnabas" and the "Shepherd of Hermas," a book packed with visions and parables.

Davila stressed that did not mean the works were necessarily considered Scripture by early Christians: They could have been bound with the Bible to save money.

The Codex itself is a fascinating artifact, representing the best of Western bookmaking, Garces said. The parchment was arranged in little multipage booklets called quires, which were then numbered in sequence.

"It was the cutting edge of technology in the 4th century," he said.

The British Library bound its quires into two volumes after their purchase from the Soviets, one of which is kept on show in a climate-controlled, bulletproof display case. Visitors can peer at the ancient book, but only see two pages at a time.

By next July, the entire Codex will be available for free _ along with transcription, translation and search functions _ on the Internet.

According to U.S. Representative Marilyn Musgrave, our nation's
legislators are now prohibited from using references to God in
certificates of authenticity accompanying flags flown over the
Capitol and bought by constituents. Such references include: "under
God" in the pledge, "God bless you," or "in the year of our Lord,
2007." Never before has this official prohibition been leveled.

Architect of the Capitol Steven Ayers said he has removed the words
because reference to God and the Lord may offend some Americans. He
now prohibits them from being placed on official documents such as
flag certificates.

Musgrave was astonished when she flew a flag over the U.S. Capitol
building as a tribute to a senior citizen, and the accompanying
certificate she received was edited with all religious references
removed.

The congresswoman was more astounded when, upon further
investigation, she discovered the certificate was censored by order
of The Architect of the Capitol, an unelected very low-level official
who manages the flag office.

Responding to a request for a flag flown over the United States
Capitol in honor of a World War II veteran's 81st birthday, the
congresswoman ordered the flag and a certificate to state: "This flag
was flown for Mr. John Doe on the occasion of his 81st birthday, the
eleventh day of July, in the year of our Lord, 2007. Thank you,
Grandpa, for showing me what it is to be a true patriot -- to love
God, family, and country. We love you!"

When the flag and certificate came back from the flag office, each
reference to the Lord and God were removed. A group of lawmakers
confronted architect Stephen Ayers seeking to find where he had the
authority to restrict their freedom of speech and religious
expression. Ayers refused to give the lawmakers a clear justification
of his authority to delete the religious references. For more

A former British spy who was jailed after blowing the whistle on alleged wrongdoing in British intelligence claims he received new-found mystic powers as the Messiah. David Shayler told British cable channel More4 News Thursday that a psychic he was visiting channelled the spirit of Mary Magdalene and anointed him the Messiah, South Africa's Dispatch online reported Sunday.

"Suddenly my whole life made sense," the 41-year-old former officer with Britain's MI5. "I felt a sense of peace, I suddenly realized why it had been how it had, why I seem to get such a strange deal from the universe, when I seem to be trying to tell the truth about everything."

Shayler said his new powers included the ability to change the weather and that he helped prevent the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow in June through meditation.

Shayler was released from prison in 2002 after serving seven weeks for breaching Britain's Official Secrets Act. He left MI5 in 1996 and tried his hand as a novelist and a conspiracy theorist about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and planned to run against then prime minister Tony Blair in 2005.

Pope Benedict XVI has ignited controversy across the world by approving a document saying non-Catholic Christian communities are either defective or not true churches, and the Roman Catholic Church provides the only true path to salvation.

"Christ 'established here on earth' only one church," said the document, reasserting the primacy of Catholicism. It said other Christian communities such as Protestants "cannot be called 'churches' in the proper sense" since they don't have what's known as apostolic succession "that is, the ability to trace their bishops back to the original 12 apostles of Jesus. The document said the Orthodox church suffered from a "wound" because it did not recognize the primacy of the pope, adding the wound was "still more profound" among Protestant denominations.

It was "difficult to see how the title of 'Church' could possibly be attributed to them," said the statement from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, purporting Roman Catholicism was "the one true Church of Christ."

"These separated churches and communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation," the document read. "In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation, whose value derives from that fullness of grace and of truth which has been entrusted to the Catholic Church."

The document, formulated as five questions and answers, repeated sections of a 2000 text the pope wrote when he was prefect of the congregation, "Dominus Iesus," which angered Protestant and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches and did not have the "means of salvation."

The Vatican's statement, signed by American Cardinal William Levada, was approved by Benedict June 29, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in the Catholic faith.

Protestant leaders wasted no time attacking the statement. "It makes us question whether we are indeed praying together for Christian unity," said the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, a group of 75 million Protestants in more than 100 countries. "It makes us question the seriousness with which the Roman Catholic Church takes its dialogues with the reformed family and other families of the church."

Today's edition of the London Times gave the story prominence with a headline reading: "If it isn't Roman Catholic then it's not a proper Church, pope tells Christians."

MY RESPONSE:

Martin Luther and other leaders of the Protestant Reformation knew what the Scriptures really say: That Jesus said we are to call no man our spiritual "Father" (Matt. 23:9), that we have one priest and mediator before God--Christ (Heb. 4: 14-16), that only Christ--not Mary, the saints, or priests--makes intercession for us (Heb. 7:25), and that Christ's atonement covers all sin (Heb. 8:12), there being no difference between mortal and venial sins in Scripture.

Furthermore, we are to confess sins directly to God (1 John 1:9) and only God can forgive (Mark 2:7). Scripture contains no doctrine of Purgatory, Indulgences, Limbo, Penance, etc.

Considering that the Pope subscribes to all of these doctrines, should we listen to anything he says? The Pope, infallible? Hardly! Only God's word is infallible. Men who think they are and who would add or take away from God's word commit blasphemy and will not attain eternal life (Rev. 22:19). Listen to God and forget everything else!

THIS IS A WAKE-UP CALL!!!

I got an e-mail today from a Jehovah's Witness lady whom I've been talking to lately. She is the mother of a friend of mine. This friend has escaped the Watchtower organization only two months ago but she has made remarkable progress in her newly found Christian walk since then.

Her mother and I have been discussing how it is apparent that we are in the Last Days. In my last e-mail to her, I commented that people have no consideration for their fellow humans anymore. The Bible's words have never rang more true when it foretold that one of the signs of the Last Days is that people would no longer have any natural affection for one another. People certainly seem to have lost any shred of decency and feeling for their fellow man. It is astounding to see that even in my small, formerly peaceful town, people are becoming exceedingly rude and self-centered anymore.

In response to my comments, my JW friend says, "We are indeed in the last days and I will be glad when Jehovah says his day has come and the wicked will be done away with and we will live in Paradise and live in peace." I whole-heartedly agree with her sentiments, even if I do not precisely agree with the way that the Watchtower says everything is going to ultimately happen. However, since I am just beginning to try to witness to this lady, I am still at the point where I am trying to merely establish a common foundation on which to build later. I am being careful not to argue doctrinal differences at this time, but I am focused on where we can find common points of agreement.

I would like to share what I wrote back to her with my readers. My response concentrates on how Bible prophecy and current events are so inextricably intertwined, proving to my satisfaction that we are indeed in the Last Days of this wicked system. My hope, in sharing my response is two fold: For Christians, it will prove to be edifying and faith-strengthening. For those who don't know Christ, it is time to take serious notice and turn your sights to the Lord, who is the only one who can save us in these critical times.

My response to my JW friend was as follows:

Yes, peace is what we certainly need. However, the Bible plainly says that it is not going to come about by any human invention, but only by the return of Christ. It is wonderful to be a Christian and to know that, the worse things get, we can actually look forward to a glorious outcome. I feel sorry for people who only see things getting progressively worse and have no hope, or who look to human governments to save them when they cannot.

Did you hear about the controversy now with the comments Rosie O'Donnell made on the view about 9/11 being a manufactured event? I have been doing some heavy research in the past few months and it would certainly seem that she was on the mark.

Think about this: when Hitler started out, people looked to him to be the answer to utopia for the German people. His own people couldn't see the larger, imperialistic agenda, although other countries could. It wasn't long before it became apparent that his agenda was to take over the world and form one large police state. To that end, he burned his own government building, the Reichstag, and blamed it on the Jews. In doing so, he set the Jews up as a common enemy of his people. The propaganda of the Third Reich caused so much fear of outsiders that the German people were willing to give up their freedoms and submit to this megalomaniac. I definitely see some direct parallels with the turn for the worst this country has taken under the Bush administration.

I know that some people would poo-poo these conclusions as a "conspiracy theory", but it is incredible how much current events parallel Revelation prophecy. At Armageddon, we are told that all of the governments of the earth will be gathered together to fight the returning Christ, with the Anti-Christ leading the way. I have been studying a lot about this One World Order (aka New World Order) agenda that has been so profoundly in the works in the last couple of centuries. It is so obvious to me that they are moving toward a common union that will be gathered together for the war of Armageddon.

We now have a European Common Union and Bush is promoting a North American Union now. The next step is to unite these two unions into one and then to eradicate third world countries. These people (the Illuminati), who occupy the highest ranks of Freemasonry, have a secret agenda to exterminate 2/3 of the world's population. It is most certainly time for Christ to return. We are definitely on the countdown to extinction if not for his return.

In my research, I have found that the 3 times in this country's history that this agenda has been routed were the three times that this country experienced a great revival of Christianity. From those revivals, the anti-Masonic movement was resurrected and that is what squelched the plan for awhile.

It is so obvious that this system is on borrowed time. Obviously, God used those revivals to squelch this agenda because it was not in his time table for Christ to return. The political rulers think they are making all of the decisions, but it is comforting to know that they will only last for as long as God allows them to. I do believe that it will only be another revival that will rout their plans once again, just as it has before.

The Bible tells us that the only thing holding things together so that it doesn't reach explosive proportions, is the Holy Spirit. It says that in the last days, once God's Spirit is removed, that is when every thing comes unhinged. For now, God's Spirit is still striving with us and it is the only thing that keeps life bearable for the time being.

Thank God that He has provided us with prophecy and promise, so that we not only can understand what is going on, but we know that those who put their faith in Him will have redemption from this wicked world!

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Today is national Day of Prayer and I attended a small ceremony in the city of Sherrill, which the pastor of the church I work at presides over every year. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this event, I thought I would share with you what it is all about, as well as the passages of Scripture that were highlighted today.

The reason we hold this annual event:

I Timothy 2: 1-3--
1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour

What we do at this event:

1. We pray for our national leaders, our military, our local leaders, and our community servants (ie police, fire dept., EMS, etc.)

2. We pray for political, economic, and military situations on a national scale.

3. We pray for the spiritual condition of society on every level.

4. We humble ourselves, repenting that we have not always lived up to our spiritual expectations, and asking God to begin to affect a change for the better that will begin with us.

#4 is in accordance with 2 Chronicles 7:14. According to this verse, we can hardly expect God to heal our land if we have ceased to be salt and light in our world. We can't justify asking God to change our nation if we are unwilling to change ourselves. Notice that this passage begins with "If"--IF we will do our part, God will do His! There is a CONDITION attached! We can see that, #4 is inextricably connected to # 1-3.

Some of the other Scriptures that were shared today are:

These passages show that there is hope in these desperate times, for those who know God.

Rabbis Attempt to Resume Animal Sacrifices on the Temple Mount

JERUSALEM: The present-day Sanhedrin Court in Israel (the original Sanhedrin was the religious high court of Israel in biblical times), along with a splinter group of rabbis recently announced plans to resume ancient Temple practices of animal sacrifices on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, despite religious bans by Moslems and Jews.

The court purchased herds of sheep for ritual sacrifice, which they have planned in connection with Passover, depending on the situation at the controversial religious site.

"Regrettably, there are many extremist Israeli groups who want to carry out their plans", said Jerusalem senior Islamic cleric, Mohammed Hussein. "Let them say what they want, Al Aksa (located on the temple mount) is a Moslem mosque".

. According to sources, the 71 members of the modern-day Sanhedrin have all the required elements necessary for Temple sacrifice, including the ritual altar, and said they want to begin sacrificing animals again, despite the absence of the Temple. Professor Hillel Weiss, a member of the Sanhedrin, said it's an important step to show that "it's not only talk". However, Rabbi Dov Stein, secretary of the new Sanhedrin Court, believes Temple sacrifices won't happen any time soon.

"We want to do the sacrifice, but we have political problems", Stein said. "We hope there will come a time when the government will agree. We will push for that to happen."

Not all religious Jews are in favor of the sacrifices, however.

"Animal sacrifice, as a mode of religious worship, stopped for Jews, Christians, and Moslems," said Rabbi Daniel Hartman of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. "Moving back in that direction is not progress". --Israel Today

I have heard for sometime that all of the interior furnishings for the temple are ready. The problem with re-erecting the temple has always been the conflict between the Muslims and Jews, because the Muslim�s Dome of the Rock inhabits the spot where the temple is said to go. Now, they are talking about re-establishing sacrifices even without the temple.

So, we all know what Bible prophecy says in Daniel�the Anti-Christ will make a peace pact with Israel, during which these sacrifices will be reinstituted. After 3 � years of this, he breaks his pact with them and turns on them, setting off the sequence of events recorded in Revelation and leading the world into Armageddon.

One has only to look at current events, to see that we are on a fast-track to the end of this system.

Daniel 9: 27--And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of ABOMINATIONs [shall come] one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out upon the desolate.

Daniel 11: 31--And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual [burnt-offering], and they shall set up the ABOMINATION that maketh desolate.

Daniel 12:11-- And from the time that the continual [burnt-offering] shall be taken away, and the ABOMINATION that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand and two hundred and ninety days.
