World War Two Poems

Written During and after WW2 By K Lowe/Oliver

TO ANT FOR MAX AND TALLY

TO AN ANT - FOR MAX AND TALLY, APRIL 2007

Little labourer toiling in the sun

Why do you work so hard - do you have fun

The way we mortals do at the end of day?

What is it ants do in their time of play?

There’s no one watching you, save me

And I am on your side -

I’ve watched you shove and heave

That crumb an hour or more -

It’s much too big beside -

Perhaps your friends will say you’re lazy

And don’t do your bit

But really they would never know -

If for you I carried it.

You will not lose your job.

There’s no one keeping score!

I’ll keep you in a little box

And feed you evermore.

A Ha! Your buddy’s coming up

To shove the other end.

How did he know? Ne’er turned or saw

His aid you beg him rend!

Never heard you squeak for help

My nose an inch away -

Do ants communicate with thoughts

What mortals have to say.
