World War Two Poems

Written During and after WW2 By K Lowe/Oliver

1. LONELY HEART

1.

LONELY HEART 1948

Lonely heart, bleed not so;

Lonely soul, shudder not

At the ice that encompasses you.

Think not you alone, in all the world

Know not love’s blessed presence;

You knew it once - tho’ briefly;

Others still wait, in vain perhaps

For her first wonderful call.

Be not rebellious, for your wasted youth;

Drive anguish from your tear-dimmed eyes,

Let not things of beauty - like the Spring

Evoke not their just praise

But heaving shuddering, sighs,

And nostalgic yearning, for a Spring gone by.

Wretched heart - be comforted;

You knew love for a day;

No other soul can reach beyond

The heights your soul has reached.

Count not the passing years as wasted;

They needs must fill the time,

Until your load is lifted for eternity.

2. BEAUTIFUL PEONY

2.

BEAUTIFUL PEONY 1950

Beautiful Peony

Tender, white.

Wreathed in a fragrant

Mist of delight.

Sad in your beautiful

Life’s short span;

Sad, but more beautiful

By far, than Man.

Cruel red scar

Upon your heart.

And dewy tears

Glistening there;

Weeping not

For your own sad fate,

But the fate

That all man

Must share.
