Introduction

Frederick & Kathleen Oliver
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>II<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
My name is Kathleen Lowe Oliver
Battle of Britain - R.A.F.
A few of my earlier poems written during and after WW11. Many of them relate to the death of my husband Sgt Frederick Oliver of Wigan. He and the pilot of a Lancaster (mk Lm 138), Harry Cooke of New Zealand were shot down over France on the night of June 23rd - 24th 1944. They came down in Mayor Vandaeles farm field and were buried by the villagers in the local churchyard at Socx. The people of Socx have recently completed a wonderful group of new residences - for a mix of homeless older people, and families with young children, which they named the Oliver-Cooke Cottages in honour of my husband and his pilot. Myself and our son Kevin Frederick Oliver and family were guests of honour at the recent dedication ceremonies September 13th - 15th, 2006.

( Acknowledgements )
To Andre, Danielle, and their son Regis Berteloot, who cared for the graves since 1944 I gratefully dedicate these poems.
To the children of the school of Socx for their talented paintings of the crash (inspired by their kindly friend of many years, Andre Berteloot) with messages to me (perfectly written in English!) and for their lovely singing, and to their inspired teacher Cathy Hameaux.
To Mayor Charles Vandaele, son of the wartime Mayor on whose farm the plane crashed.
To Consul General Christopher Baker MBE. A great comfort and a real rock of Gibraltar during a stressful but wonderful time.
End
Kathleen L Oliver.

I am originally from the Lancashire town of Wigan, England but now live in the state of New Jersey USA.
This site contains a collection of poems that I have written over a period of many years.
My story begins during World War Two when my husband Fred Oliver was shot down in France in 1944.
