New Appointments for the Class of 2013 and Welcome Picnic:
Congratulations to Robby Dilley, Ian Ellington, Will Shuman, Joel Graley, Kris Warner and Katie Danno, who have recently received their appointments at the United States Air Force Academy! Go Falcons!!
The Welcome Picnic for the 2009 Appointees was held at the Warner Family Lodge, near Phillippi, WV. We had a great turnout and it was a very enjoyable day. This event was an excellent opportunity for the new appointees, and families, to meet one another.
Congratulations to the C1C's! and their post graduation assignments:
Jeremy DeGuzman - first base assignment is Aviano, Italy, with the F16
maintenance squadron. He's very happy with his assignment!
Garrett Dilley - also happy with his first assignment: Edwards AFB in
California where he'll work as a developmental engineer testing F22
Raptors. In the interim between graduation and his first assignment,
he plans to attend weddings in Texas and upstate New York, go biking
with friends and go canoeing in Canada, and enjoy some time with his
parents in WV.
Josh Mann - will visit home before commencing his
first assignment as Finance Officer at FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Josh will also continue academics in the MBA program at University of Colorado..
We Need New Photographs for the Photo Album:
Please forward electronic photographs of your cadet and we will add them to the album. Please try to identify the activity and subjects, as well.
May Study Boxes Have Been Sent:
President, Shirley Strovers arranged to have May Study Boxes sent out to our cadets, via the Colorado USAFA Parents Club. Shirley added a message to personalize the care package and indicate that the package was initiated from the WV Parents Club. Not much feedback has been received from the cadets...
St. Patrick's Day Care Packages Have Been Sent:
Ike and Beth Skidmore (Cadet Second Class, Michael Skidmore), have sent out the St. Patrick's Day "Green Boxes." These care packages were loaded with goodies and fun stuff. Just in time for a Recognition Weekend pick-me-up! A big Thank You to all the parents who supported this effort, and a special thanks to the Skidmore's for their extra efforts. Our President, Shirley Strovers is already asking for volunteers for the "May Study Boxes." Please contact Shirley if you are interested in this project. Thank you.
Superbowl Care Packages Have Been Sent:
Eighteen Superbowl Care Packages were sent out on Saturday January 24, 2009 by Rob and Mary Danno. The packages included a large variety of snacks, gag items and a flyer from the Parent's Club. The Danno's reported that the project was fun and easy to complete. Please contact our President, Shirley Strovers to sign-up to complete the next care package project. As you know, the cadets love to get mail, especially care packages...
Family Shirt Fundraiser is Up and Running:
With Mother's and Father's Day coming soon, you may want to order some shirts as gifts. The shirts are very attractive and they are our primary club fundraiser. Please support this project, and help spread the word that the shirts are available, with your family and throughout the extended USAFA family.
Club Dues:
Club dues are no longer being required. The West Virginia USAFA Parents Club has been generously supported by donations from the family and friends of our Cadets. Please feel free to continue these donations, as the proceeds go directly to supporting our Cadets.
