The Earth's moon comparitively speaking is the biggest moon known to exist compared to the relative size of its host planet. Based on the ratio of sizes the closeness to our planet in size has given rise to a binary planet designation for earth and its moon. The moon is roughly 5,600 miles in diameter, and lies at a distance of 615,000 miles from earth in its orbit. The phases of the moon from New to Full Moon is approximately 28 days in cycle
