IN THE SERVICE OF WORLD PEACE AND FREEDOM
"ALL GAVE SOME - SOME GAVE ALL"
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
This website is dedicated to the memory of Captain Edmond J. Landers, Officer Commanding Alpha Company 2 Bn 18 Infantry First Infantry Division (The Big Red One), United States Army, an Irishman, who served, and made the ultimate sacrifice, on the battlefields of South Vietnam, on Wednesday 15 May 1968.
It is also dedicated to the memory of those members of his command, who died in battle with him that day, and also to those of Charlie Co. who died in the final stages of the battle, during the relief of Alpha Co. in the field.
"However horrible the incidents of war may be; the soldier who is called upon to offer and give his life for his country is the noblest developement of mankind"
(Gen. Douglas McArthur, USMA, Westpoint New York, 12 May 1962)
THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY WEBSITE.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE SITE IS TO HONOUR AND REMEMBER ALL IRISH BORN MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES AND AUSTRALIAN ARMED FORCES, WHO SERVED, AND DIED, ON THE BATTLEFIELDS OF SOUTH EAST ASIA DURING THE VIETNAM WAR.
IN REMEMBERING THEM, WE ALSO REMEMBER THEIR BROTHERS IN ARMS, FROM THE UNITED STATES AND AUSTRALIA, WHO SERVED WITH THEM, AND IN MANY CASES DIED ALONG SIDE THEM, IN THAT LONG AND BLOODY CONFLICT.
IN REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE GONE, LET US ALSO REMEMBER THE FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES THEY LEFT BEHIND, WHO HAVE SUFFERED GREAT PERSONAL PAIN, SACRIFICE AND LOSS IN THEIR OWN LIVES, AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE WAR IN VIETNAM.
