When I first read Eragon, I was constantly reveling in the "genius" of it all. I agree with myself now--it is still a good book worth reading--but I couldn't connect with any of the characters. To me they seemed like mere "plot helpers", placed in the story just to move it along. Each character spoke with the same clear, intelligent voice, all happenings had significance to the plot (no idle dwadling, which I guess could be a good thing) and the whole war going on was confusing. I really didn't feel anything when the characters expierinced troubles--even when one died, I was just like, "Oh, well, he's dead, big deal, so what...?" The entire concept of the book, to me, is very good--I like the whole idea of dragons and such--but a lot of the ideas seemed to be closely related to happenings in Lord of the Rings. (Then again, I use little refrences in my own writings from books and movies, so who am I to say?) All in all, though, I think Eragon is worth reading, but I don't praise it as highly as I used to--it falls dead in places and there are too many large, unnessacary words scattered throughout.
I Give Eragon:
