Eat Your Fruits And Veggies!

Okay, you've heard it your whole life.  Eat your fruits and veggies!  Does it really make a difference?  Actually, it can make a huge difference when it comes to health.  Fruits and vegetables are associated with a lowered risk of cancer, heart disease, obesity and can even help lower your blood cholesterol levels.  They are absolutely loaded with vitamins and nutrients that are good for you.  As a matter of fact, a man who eats five different colored fruits and vegetables a day can actually cut his risk of cancer in HALF!  That's huge news.  It can also lower your risk of heart disease 12 to 15%.  Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women over the age of 47.  We need to do what we can to stop this silent killer, and why not do it eating something that is delicious?

Studies show that a diet high in fruits and vegetables can lower the risk for stroke 25%, and will reduce the risk of blood clotting.  Fruits and vegetables have a high content of soluble fiber, and in people with diabetes, this can lower blood sugar levels.  What great news!  A diabetic can enjoy sweet snacks such as grapes, apples, and bananas and won't have to worry as much about their sugar levels!

The recommended amount of fruits and vegetables is 5 to 13 servings a day.  However, most physicians recommend 2 to 4 servings of fruit, with the rest of the amount eaten in vegetables.  As a matter of fact, some specialists say that you shouldn't limit yourself on the vegetables.  Eat as many as you want.  So you can eat healthy, and still be full.  This would also be wonderful for losing weight.  The different vegetables and fruit colors are made because of the different types of nutrients in them.  The different nutrients all play a wonderful role in maintaining health, and that's why we should eat at least 5 different colors a day.  So, listen to your mother!  Eat your fruit and veggies!
