Characters

If you need a character for a story or just want to have some fun, this is the place to go.

1. Personality ~ Fill this out to give yourself an idea of your character's personality!

What are your character's hobbies?

What are his/her best traits?

Worst traits?

What was his/her life like until this point in their life?

What is his/her family like?

Age?

How many friends, and what are they like?

What does he/she value in a friend?

Are they outgoing or shy?

How does he/she think of his/herself?

What might this character say if someone pushed them into a pool?

If they learned that they could read minds?

What might this character do if they were told that they had to leave home to go on an adventure?

Is the character a clothesline or a kite?

What is the character's goal and motivations?

What is the character's epiphany?

Anything else important?

2. A Physical Description ~ Fill this out to get a discription of how your character looks.

What color eyes?

Hair?

Skin?

What shape face?

What kind of hair (like curly)?

How tall?

How thin/heavy?

You might say that there was a *fill this in* twinkle in that person's eye?

Are they unnaturally pale or something of that sort?

What shape nose?

3. Names ~ Try to think of a good name for your character considering everything that you just said. Here are some tips:

First Name- Think of their tone of the name; for a mean character, you might want a harsh sounding name. Some people like to give their character a name with a meaning that shows their personality. Make sure the name you use would be a name used in the culture/religion/country your character lives in.

Last Name- You might want to try something like a personality trait backwords, a few parts of various words combined, or something like that. For a dull, normal character, you might want a common name. Also, take into account the culture your character lives in.

Prompts

  1. Pick 6 random letters and make a sentence out of them (each letter as the first letter of a word). Write a story, paragraph, etc. about them.
  2. Pick a color and think of what emotions it reminds you. Then, write something using that emotion.
  3. Write a summary of a book you read using another character’s point of view.
  4. With a friend, write a poem where each person writes every other word.
  5. Look in the phone book for names, and use those to inspire a story or poem.
  6. Find an article in the newspaper and write from the point of view of someone in that situation.
  7. Write a book, movie, or music review.
  8. Try to remember a situation a friend told you about (such as that they were lost in a city in a foreign country) and apply a character from above into that situation. Figure out what they would do and let the story go from there.
  9. Start a story with this sentence: "Her history teacher, Mrs. Brown, had read the e-mail!"
