Kevin Krone's Page

Welcome to my page.

Welcome to WQBM345 - Kevin Krone's page.  I am located in Latham, New York.  Before that, I lived in Alburg, Vermont.

WQBM345 is my General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) callsign.  I regularly monitor all eight GMRS channels, but 'home' is on 462.600 MHz.  I also routinely monitor 462.675 MHz. as well.  I am hoping to have a repeater on the air soon.

I also possess an Amateur Radio (ham) license, callsign KB2DGA.  Unfortunately, I don't get on the air that much anymore but I do try to listen every now and then.

One of these days, I will put my Citizen's Band (CB) base station up and get on the air.  It isn't really a priority at this time.

My biggest hobby, however, are scanners.  I don't mean the type to put documents into your computer; I mean scanner radios.  I have a few here in Latham and I usually have them on all the time.

During my spare time, I volunteer with the Latham Fire District here in the Town of Colonie. I have been doing this with Latham since 2004. In 2007 and 2008 I was a Lieutenant, but I have decided to return to the rank of firefighter to take a break. It will also allow me to work on some other projects, including putting more time into this website. Latham is one of twelve fire districts located within the Town of Colonie.

Before that, I volunteered with the Alburg Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad for 13 years. I was a firefighter and an Emergency Care Attendant. Alburg is a small town located in the Northwest corner of Vermont, and it is bordered by New York State and Quebec Province.

July 2, 2009 - Update

I updated the frequency lists with the data I obtained from the NCIFTS trip.  Another trip is upcoming and I hope to acquire more useful data.

June 9, 2009 - Update

I posted a copy of the monitor log from my trip to the North Country International Fire Training School in Alburgh, VT on June 6 & 7.  Different locations and different receiver/antenna combinations were used throughout the weekend.

I also added a links page for some of the sites that I use.

June 2, 2009 - Another Update

I updated the identified stations file under the Capital District Logs tab.

June 1, 2009 - Update

Hello all.  I have uploaded some corrections and additions to the Vermont frequency lists.  I have also added the revision date next to the county name so users can tell in the future which file has been updated easier.

I plan on attending the North Country International Fire School in Alburgh this upcoming weekend (June 6 & 7, 2009).  I won't be able to take any classes but I will be loitering around, most likely at the fire station or helping out with logistical operations throughout the village.  This year I want to take a lot of pictures, and maybe even get some more updates for the frequency lists.

New update @ 20:50 EDT - I realized I forgot to finish adding data to the State Agencies & Statewide frequencies list, so I finished adding the data and uploaded the file.

March 24, 2009 - Update

I have updated some of the files but there really isnt too much new information.  Bascially added some school, college, university & hospital listings.

For those of you in the Capital District area of New York State (Albany - Rensselaer - Schenectady - Saratoga and surrounding counties), I have decided to add my monitor logs for 2009 (so far).  There are 2 files - identified stations (in frequency & alphabetical order), and an unidentified stations file.  Keep in mind they aren't complete frequency lists for the region; strictly stations that I have picked up while searching for new stations or frequencies.  I will update these as well as the year progresses.

January 5, 2009 - Update

I have updated the Chittenden County File with new info from the FCC database.  For those of you in the Burlington metro area, check this file out and let me know if there are any updated or changes to be made.  I have noticed a few new frequencies for some municipalities and I am not quite sure what they are (or will be) used for.  Just send a note to krone1972@yahoo.com with the updated info.

I have also created and added the Essex County file.  It's quite small (one page) so if you have any additional info please send it in.

I also put the question out over the VermontScanner and VermontCommunications mail groups about the call signs listed in the files.  I am 50/50 in removing the call signs because I dont believe they get used that much, and I could use the space for more channel data.  If you think I should keep the call sign field in place, or if you think the call sign field should go, let me know at krone1972@yahoo.com .  I have had one reply so far saying it doesn't matter one way or the other.
