Every speaker, teacher, successful writer I've met has repeated that famous writer's mantra: "Specialize." Guess I wasn't listening! But it's made my career much more interesting.
In a decade of writing I written for a variety of consumer and trade magazines. Although I have published many parenting and family related articles for magazines such as Mother-Daughter Bonding Magazine, Christian Science Monitor, Reunions Magazine and Grandparents Magazine, I've also branched out into the unexpected. I interviewed American Legion Riders, a motorcycle group for military veterans, for Iron Horse Magazine and covered that scandalous dance--the waltz--for The History Magazine. I've also written about health issues, home improvement, entertaining, travel, and finance.
As a rebel to the writer's mantra, I didn't just stick to magazine articles. A family friend, aged 14, is most proud of my work for Nuevo Retro writing games for Nintendo DS. Along the way I've also written WordLover, a blog for puzzle lovers at www.aswearemagazine.com and a monthly column for writers at www.writer2writer.com .
My business writing started out when I began writing articles about industry trends and leaders, product reviews and descriptions, and a monthly column Mom's Persepctive for Toy Directory Monthly, a trade magazine for the toy and hobby industry. From there I moved on to press releases, web copy, blogs, and other writing needs for various companies such as KangaRoom Storage, KimTees, Have Fun Productions, and Tule Fog Productions. If only they all gave me free samples--especially the chocolatier!
Chances are, if you have a writing need, I can help you. Contact me at webbJM@verizon.net to discuss your job.
