Alcohol abuse is a very universal problem.
While
there are alcohol treatments available, the most
successful for any stage of alcoholism is abstinence.
Blood alcohol content, or blood alcohol level,
measures the ratio of alcohol in the bloodstream. It
is important when seeking alcohol treatment for
medical staff to constantly monitor blood alcohol
content, to insure a gradual alcohol detox and prevent
DTs.
Author Gregory A. Raymer was a practicing
alcoholic for over 15 years. In December of 1998, Mr.
Raymer sought treatment for his alcoholism, which
included attending Alcohol Anonymous meetings.
In 2003, Mr. Raymer penned a novel, The Woodie Chronicles
(also spelled Woody Chronicles) in the hope of helping
the still suffering alcoholic and their concerned
loved ones deal with and contain their alcohol
addiction. |
Mr. Raymer tells the story of Greg Phoenix,
a hopeless alcoholic who lands into trouble for his
alcohol abuse. Through the help of Kenny (who is
really a guardian angel) and Captain Jack, they come up
with a plan to help two students (one of them
terminally ill) travel down to Key West, Florida to
accept a writing award. Mr. Raymer incorporates
several icons of Americana to tell his story; Woodie
station wagons, drive in movie theaters, Historic
Route 66, a DC-3 Amphibian airplane, and the like.
During one stop at the drive in and movie, Mr. Phoenix
suffers from withdrawal symptoms. He constantly walks
around the perimeter of the drive in theater, hoping
that his craving will tire with his body.
Using a partial Route 66 map as a guide through the story, the
characters meander through Route 66 landmarks, Route 66 Drive In movie theaters, and the like, making friends
along the way that end up helping them with their
journey. While the story has a bittersweet ending, it
does mention the kindness of The National Woodie Club,
(also called club national woodie) to the delight of
Captain Jack, the owner of the Woody Wagon that
transported the characters through the story.
The author is available for speaking engagements and book
signings anywhere in the country. He specializes in motivational speaking and self-help groups.
