Version 1.2 released: CodeWeasel's Process Assassin - 7/23/06

New version with a name change and some added capabilities. Here are descriptions, taken from the readme file in the installation:

 - Process hit-list: put one or more processes in the list and click one button to stop them all. I use it every startup to get rid of a few processes I don't want running.

 - Process name Google search: select a process and click "What is this process?" to perform a Google query on that process name. Useful for figuring out if a process is malware or not.

 - Full filepath toggle box: click to display the full filepath of each running process' executable file. Useful for determining if a process is trying to disguise itself as a Windows component from a different folder, among other things.

 - Filepath explore shortcut: click to jump to the folder of the selected process' executable file. Provides easier access to the file, should you need to view its properties, delete it, etc. NOTE: Only works if full filepaths are toggled on.

 - Tasks->Module Dump: Dumps a listing of the modules(usually DLLs) that each .exe has loaded into a text file, and then displays said file.

 - New task dialog: much like Start->Run, allows you to go to any folder or open any file. Useful by itself, but even more useful when combined with the Module Dump. Let's say you find a module being run by svchost from a fishy folder you don't recognize. Just copy and paste the filepath (minus the filename) into the New Task dialog and you're in that folder to take a look at the suspicious DLL.

Version 1.1 Released!

A new version of my BPK program has been released! The installer fixes the problem some people were having where anti-spyware programs were flagging the BPK directory as something to do with a keylogger of the same abbreviation ("BPK"). As for the program itself, there are some new features. There's a menu now, with a choice that allows for the execution of tasks, much like Task Manager's File->New Task (Run...) option. The menu also contains an exit option and an About box. Elsewhere in the program, you can now choose (via check box) whether or not to save your current "Hit-List" (the check box defaults to on), so you can make a temporary list that doesn't stay with the program. You can also kill individual processes now, no more making a list of one process just to end it.

Hope you enjoy it! Anything you want to know/tell me about this program (including suggestions for future versions) can be directed to CodeWeasel (at) gmail (dot) com. You can also post on http://www.eocf.com, if you have an account. If you don't have an account, REGISTER! It's free, and full of nice, brilliant computer enthusiasts.

Batch Process Killer

I'm proud to announce the release of a USEFUL utility! The Batch Process Killer (BPK for short) is a funky little program/process management utility. Here are its features:

-Snapshot list of all processes currently running on your computer

-The ability to move selected processes to a Kill List for the purpose of their concurrent termination. The kill list is saved, too, so you won't have to hunt for those pesky processes the next time you start BPK.

-Google lookup of any process at the click of a button.

Future feature possibilites:

-More task manager-like stuff, eg. cpu usage, taskbar name, mem usage, etc.
