The Welsh Kempo Association provides Martial Arts, Fitness, Accredited First Aid Training, Personal Safety Training, Lone Worker training, breakaway training and Eskrima Stick fighting for adults and children in both the English and Welsh languages. We have been active in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area for many years and the associations founder and lead Instructor Julie Williams has been teaching her own clubs for over 13 years in her own organisation but for many years in other clubs.
The Welsh Kempo association is dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle and good life choices via its Ju Jitsu programme for children and adults. We believe that it is not simply enough to encourage fitness training but that we need to encourage a healthy lifestyle, good diet, and develop the studentís confidence, life skills and feeling of self worth in order for them to get the best out of our programmes. We have different programmes which are suitable for different ages, maturity and development and the focus of these programmers is to provide students the highest quality martial arts instruction available, in a safe and positive learning environment that people of all ages can enjoy.
Ju Jitsu is an exciting and powerful martial art known for its dynamic kicking, throwing, locking and hand techniques. Although these martial art techniques are centuries old, the planned programs being offered are always evolving to keep pace with the rapidly changing world. Whilst we have many students who have competed all over the world and won many titles including World, British and Welsh titles, we appreciate and understand that not every student is able to, or wishes to compete in competitions so we tailor our training to suit the individual students which enables them to get the best out of our programmes because we realise that each student possesses different physical abilities. Size and strength vary with each individual. Once a student has acquired a strong foundation in the basics, our programme will enhance the student's physical capabilities and maximize his/her self-defense skills.
Julie Williams is currently a 5th dan in Ju Jitsu under the Shimpi Izumi Dojo led by her instructor Shihan John `Jo Biggs 9th Dan Goshin Ju Jitsu and founder of Sacred Spring Martial Arts.
The Goshin Ju Jitsu side of the company is, we believe, unique in Wales as we currently have 8 black belt instructors or trainee instructors, 7 of whom are female. This in itself is very unusual but the fact that 5 of the instructors are fluent Welsh speakers and teach in both Welsh and English is we believe, unique in the martial arts world.
We also provide Eskrima Stick Fighting training for adults and older children and Julie Williams is the only coach who is authorised to teach the Dacayana Eskrima system in Wales. Julie is a Senior Dacayana UK & European Coach under the guidance of Master Juhn Dacayana (Cebu City, Phillipines) Marcie Harding and John `Jo Biggs who are join UK Heads of the system. This style of Eskrima is the family system which has been developed by Mater Juhn Dacayana`s Great Grandfather and has been an Eskrima system in his family for many years. We are therefore honoured and very fortunate to have the opportunity to train in this old family Eskrima system. We are currently developing the style which will enable us to work with nursing homes and the elderly using walking sticks and umberellas.
We also provide Personal Safety & Lone Worker Training which is aimed at companies, groups or at Women and young girls using the Branwen Personal Safety Programme. This program me has been used for a number of years with school age students, target groups such as Genesis and Community First groups and is part theory and part practical. The company is in the process of gaining accreditation for this training.
We also provide Boxcercise and Core Training for adults and children which is a fun, healthy way to tone up, loose weight and develop a healthy exercise routing. It is also a good way to have a lot of fun.
Julie Williams is a high ranking instructor who combines excellent student instructor ratios with excellent training facilities. She is a graduate of the University of Glamorgan (B.A.Honours) and also has a PGCE, several Coaching Certificates as well as an instructor program that represents more thirteen years of research and development. She will be with students every step of the way to help them reach their individual goals and maybe even reach some new goals they've never before thought possible.
The Welsh Kempo association is not interested in just teaching self-defense, Julie Williams, as a certified instructor remains interested in the complete personal development of each student. Individual attention is a feature of each and every class, allowing all students to progress quickly and confidently toward their personal goals. All the instructors in the company take their responsibility as a role models for younger students seriously, teaching them the importance of strong character, leadership and good values.
Although Julie Williams is the lead instructor and owner of the company, she is assisted on a voluntary basis by the other black belts in the company. All black belts, trainee instructors and instructors over 16 years of age are CRB checked. All instructors and trainee instructors have current First Aid certificates and Child Protection training. The company has a list of documents available for inspection upon request including:
Instructors / Public Liability Certificate
First aid Certificates
