Tips, Tricks, and Techniques

Here you will find tips, trick and techniques. I would like to add that the things I recommend I have tested on myself and would not tell anyone else to do if I found that they were not benefical. Also, these tips may not apply to people with mental disorders or anyone on medication.
Note: This is Die (Andou Daisuke) of Dir en grey. I am not implying that he is Anorexic or has an eating disorder despite the fact he went through an awkward extremely thin phase. I am using this picture because he has ideal arms and hips.

Tips and Tricks (ANA)

-Drink lots of water! It fills you up fast and is good for clearing your body of toxins and hydrating your skin.

-Drink cold drinks/water. For your body to maintain homeostasis (the same temperature), it burns more calories drying to heat the water.

-Sit up straight and walk straight. You burn 10 calories every hour for doing this.

-Split up a single serving into three or four seperate parts and eat one part at your meal. Therefore you are only eating one serving yet it serves as three/four.

-When your hungry or feeling hunger pains, boil water with one or two bullion cubes. The warm water will help your stomach feel better and the bullion helps restore the decreased sodium intake in your body. (Bullion only contains 10-15 calories per cube)

 -If you're going to drink diet soda, drink quickly in large gulps. This will help fill you up faster and prevent hunger pains

-Chew ice cubes if you feel hungry

 -Most people just want the taste of food, so chew the food you want and spit it out. Don't swallow the food!

-Drink a glass of water every hour. It helps your stomach feel full.

-When fasting, suck on low calorie candies or mints. It will help supress hunger (peppermints mostly) and keep your mouth busy.

-When you eat, set your fork down in between bites

-Chew slowly, it takes thirty minutes for your stomach to realize its full

-Excerise in the morning when you HAVEN'T eaten. You'll start burning fat and calories instantly. If you wait till later in the day it takes 10-20 minutes of excersize to start burning fat

-While watching television, do crunches during the commercial, NOT situps. Situps make your stomach larger with muscle while crunches tone your abs.

-Lower the tempeture in your house 10 degrees lower than what you are used to. It will make your body burn more calories to maintain homeostasis.

-Eat around 7-9 AM. That is when your metabolism is fastest

-Building muscle helps increase metabolism

-Drink tea when you're hungry. It fills you up and calms your stomach. Also, green tea boosts metabolism

-Chewing gum can increase hunger, but it helps keep your mouth busy

-Don't eat after 7 PM. You're metabolism is at its slowest

-Don't eat 3 hours before bed. The food can keep you semi-awake.

-Get at least 6-7 hours of sleep a night. For every hour that you miss of sleep, your apetite is increased by 10%

-Eat on a navy blue or black plate. It helps you eat less

-Eat on small plates, so if it is filled with food, your mind sees a full plate

-Go shopping after eating, grocery shopping after eating helps you buy less

-Sleep when you get a craving. When you wake up, you'll most likely no longer crave that food.


Tips and Tricks (MIA)

-When purging, stick your fingers as far down as you can and keep them their until you can't anymore. This will be hard the first few times, but it'll get easier

-Eating liquidy foods that come up easily (icecream, soup, milkshakes)

-Weigh yourself before purging and after purging to make sure you got rid of everything

-Don't eat chips or meat. These can hurt to purge

-Avoid spicy foods and chocolate. Chocolate tastes awful coming up and spicy foods can burn your nose

-Wait to brush your teeth. Brushing right away can help the acid decay your teeth. Garggle water or mouth wash, then after an hour brush

-Using the end of a toothbrush can be good for stimulating a gag reflex to prevent your hands being damaged from acid, but it takes long and can often hurt

-Splash your face with cold water after purging to help reduce redness

-Always gargle water after a purge, the stomach acid can build up in your salivary glands and make your face swollen (criteria in diagnosing Bulimia that psychologists and doctors look for)

-If you are going to binge on bread, drink plenty of water and chew well! This can hurt if there are huge unchewed balls of bread

Recommended foods for purging:
Water (always try to drink water when you're binging, it will help fill you up)
Ice cream
Frozen yogurt
Soup
Juices, smoothies, shakes
Bananas, other soft fruits
Yogurt
Well-cooked soft vegetables
Oatmeal
Macaroni and cheese
Noodles
**Noodles can be difficult if not chewed. Parts of it will hang out of your mouth and the rest stuck in your throat

Not Recommended foods:
Anything spicy
Apples
Chocolate
Meat
Anything swallowed in chunks
Potato, rice, cooked grains
Anything with small sharp pieces, like popcorn or chips
Nuts
Raw crunchy vegetables
Salad (w/ dressing)

Techniques

People pressuring you to eat? Try these excuses:

1. "Oh, thank you, but I already ate at work (or school."

2. "Well, I haven't really been feeling well today. I'm gonna drink some tea and lie down."

3. "Man, I've got a massive headache. I'll take some aspirin and lie down"

4. "Well, I had a really HUGE breakfast (whatever meal is closest) and I'm still full from that ... maybe later."

Feeling hungry and tempted by food?

-Make a list of things that will look better if you continue to diet/fast/excersize

-Write in a journal

-Count to 1000. You'll most likely forget that you're hungry

-Talk to another pro-ana/pro-mia person for encouragement

-Look at your thinspiration/trigger picture/reverse trigger picture

-Create a scrapbook of what you would like to look like

-Clean your room/house (put on music to pass the time)

-Don't leave snacks lying around. If you don't see them you won't crave them as much

-Look at pro-ana/pro-mia websites

-Work on your own pro-ana/pro-mia journal or website

-Work out! Replace food with working out

-Drink tea/diet soda/lemonade to silence your stomach

-Freeze diet soda in the freeze in a cup or ice cube trays and treat them like ice cream. Great for filling you up!

Fasting? Make it more enjoyable!

-
Crystal light packets! They have one calorie per packet and taste delicious!

-Add a bit of lemon to your water

-Add one or two packets of splenda/nectasweet/other sweeteners to your water, it will improve the taste and make water less boring

-Drink Propel fitness water. 10 calories per serving (8 oz.), 30 calories in the whole bottle

-Drink fresh squeezed orange juice (kosher orange juice or squeeze it yourself). 110 calories per serving, but if you split it up into portions throughout the day it makes your stomach feel better

-Boil 1 or 2 bullion cubes in water (the kind you get in glass jars, the mexican, soft, kind have 15 calories) and add a few spices to it. Each cube has 5 calories. *This can help your stomach, because you water fast there is a possibility you can drain your body of its sodium and it can cause excrutiatingly painful stomach cramps. The bullion is pure sodium and restores what you have drained from your body*

Purging

-Be discreet and as quiet as possible

-Play music in the bathroom or keep a faucet running

-Say you are going to take shower, turn the water on, and purge. Then take a bath and be all clean

-When inducing a purge, don't take your fingers/instrument out the first time you gag. This can make it harder to bring your food back up

-If people ask why your eyes are red, say you got something in your eye (or if you have contacts that you were fixing them)

-Place toliet paper in the toliet so the water doesn't splash up and hit you

-Flush and triple check to make sure it all went down

-When you leave the bathroom, try to look relaxed and not gasping

-Don't immediately run to the bathroom unless you're alone. Wait 15 or 20 minutes to purge when around people, BUT don't wiat more than an hour or your body will have already absorbed the calories

-Wash your hands! Stomach acid can ruin your hands and nails (another feature psychologists are supposed to look for according to the DSM IV)
