When Angels Cry
A newborn sees no light
And feels no touch
But with one stare
He smiles…
His angel’s there.
And when he’s big enough to play
He’d stumble
Yes, he’d fall
But he’d recover from it all
Because his angel’s there.
And when he’s all grown up
He’d dream, and love….and hurt
And through it all
He’d mend his heart
Because he’s angel’s there.
Do angels only smile?
Or do they love and hurt?
How solid is an angel’s heart
For it to never be a prey
To what the human soul must bear?
I thought that angels only sang
And lived a life of endless joy
I did believe their hearts were soft
But whole enough to never break.
I’m wrong.
For I’ve seen one little shattered soul
Whose heart was torn to pieces
As she roamed about the earth
She loved and gave it all.
She walked on rocks and thorns
Her wings got caught in deadly twigs
Her clothing soiled and torn
Her dreams crushed to the ground.
‘Tis no place for that angel
This earth is much too harsh
For when she loved, she’s lost her touch
With fallen wings, she hurt so much.
Oh angels sing, that I can say
They love and guard, and smile
But there’s an angel who does cry
And hurt once in a while.
When heaven takes her back
She’ll have torn wings and wounded feet
The clouds will soothe her pains
But her lonely heart will weep…
For now I know…
That angels cry
When love lets go.
