What are we playing?

 

 

This is a selection of pieces which the Orchestra have worked on in the recent past.  Our repertoire spans classical music, jazz and contemporary music from stage and screen:

 


Carissima
- Edward Elgar
A short piece for small orchestra, this work was first performed at a recording session in January 1914.
It was the first gramophone recording that Elgar conducted.


Cavalcade

An arrangement by Guy Jones of music from Noel Coward's 1931 stage play.


Chanson De Matin
- Edward Elgar
Chanson De Nuit - Edward Elgar
Originally written for violin and piano, these extremely popular miniatures were scored for orchestra in 1901.


Dambusters March
- Eric Coates
The famous main title march from the 1954 film 'The Dam Busters'. 


Gabriel's Oboe
- Ennio Morricone 
Lyrical theme taken from the award winning soundtrack to the film 'The Mission'


Les Miserables

A selection of the music by Claude-Michel Schonberg from the classic musical.


Rosamunde, ballet music no.2
- Franz Schubert
This work is part of the incidental music for an 1823 play by Helmina von Chézy.


Send in the Clowns
- Stephen Sondheim 
An orchestral version of the mournful ballad from the 1973 musical 'A Little Night Music'


Sleigh Ride
- Frederick Delius
Written as 'A Winter Night', part of 'Three Small Tone Poems' this short piece is full of dance rhythms.
