Let's all admit it-- lengthy submission guidelines suck.
The Editors at Wings of Icarus feel your pain. We think lengthy guidelines rank among the stupid and unnecessary inventions of mankind, like the pedal-powered wheelchair, Braille driver's manuals, and taxes.
Simultaneous submissions and
previously published works are perfectly acceptable.
Other forums are picky about simultaneous submissions and previously published works. Well, we'll let you in a little secret: We love you. They don't. We love you for who you are, not how much you follow our guidelines or kiss our asses with your fancy cover-letters. We are frank people. No ass-kissing required here.
Why do we uncapitalize all letters in titles? Well, we firmly believe that all title letters in titles are equally titled, and deserve their rights as such.The call for submissions is open to people who create the following types of art.
Please send 3-5 pieces of the following in a Word document attachment or pasted into the body of an email:
- Poetry.
- Visual Poetry - (TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO FORMATTING ISSUES.)
- Visual Art - (TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO FORMATTING ISSUES.)
- Flash Fiction.
- Short Stories. (KEEP 'EM BRIEF; NO MORE THAN 6,000 WORDS. WE HAVE LIVES, TOO.)
- Creative Nonfiction.
Just send us something and tell us a bit about yourself while you're at it. You don't have to be funny, engaging, impressive, or make little witty sayings about everything like Oscar Wilde... we just ask to get to know you a little bit.
That's all there is to it. Really! No fine print. Now please, send us something!
Response time: generally 24 hours – 4 weeks, although sometimes may be shorter or longer, depending on the varying amounts of life-changing events or bestselling book manuscripts that the Editors undergo within the time period you submit.
Also, please take note: the Editors are merely human, and sometimes they forget to review a submission. If this is the case with us and you haven't heard back from us in a month, feel free to query. In fact, please query before you decide that we're evil and worthless--we're actually pretty cool guys, and far from evil. Oh, and we love you. Wait... didn't we already say that?
