Here at Wings of Icarus, we the editors share a certain, steadfast set of beliefs. We believe, wholeheartedly, in the ability of the artist to have all of the rights to his or her work, to do any thing with that work that he or she wants, and to be able to write or draw anything that he or she desires without paying attention to boundaries.
We believe that everyone should be in total control of their work, which is why we accept simultaneous submissions and previously published work. It's your work, why should we be able to tell you what you can do with it? Shit, we're just editors.
We believe, strongly, that in art, there are no boundaries of expression. If you want to write about something outrageous, sure, write about something outrageous. If you can find a way to write about that outrageous thing in a well-crafted and skillful way, we'll publish it, social boundaries be damned!
Here at Wings of Icarus, we don't give a flying fuck if you're a woman, man, straight, gay, transgender, white, black, or striped-pink with highlighter-green polka dots. We hold up a big, shining middle finger to all of those publications who "seek out women contributors", "give preference to minorities", or "only accept the work of a certain gender". If the above categories apply to you and you feel our policy is unfair, then please go submit to the other publications that will give you an unfair advantage over other submitters. We do not believe in, nor tolerate, discrimination of any sort at Wings of Icarus. That means we do not give preference to, or hold prejudice against, any group whatsoever. To quote the poet Elizabeth Bishop: "Art is art, and to separate it into genders or categories is to emphasize values in them that are not art."
But besides all of the above ranting, this pretty much sums it up:
All artists and writers at Wings of Icarus share one goal, one common thing in their work:
