Squid-shaped phone case

The orange squid uses the pattern as written, the green was adapted for a smaller phone

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn, 1.5 oz
1 set US #3 dpns
1 yarn needle
2 3/4" buttons

Gauge:
6 st/7 rows in stockinette

Directions:

Body front:
CO 13, knit plain for the length of your phone ending with a purl row.

Tentacles:
Row 1: S1, *m1, k1, m1, slip last 3 st to a new needle, work I-cord over these st for 1.5” or desired tentacle length. BO by drawing yarn. Slip next st in row onto the first needle.* repeat between * across row.
Row 2: P1, *pick up and purl 1 st from next I-cord, P next slipped st.* repeat between * across row. 13 st. on needle.
Row 3: K4, *m1, k1, m1, slip last 3 st. to new needle. Work I-cord over these 3 st for 2” or slightly longer than the row 1 tentacles. End I-cord by working the flipper directions as below. * With new yarn k3, repeat between *, attatch new yarn and k4
Row 4: p4, pick up and purl 1 st from row 3 I-cord, p3, pick up and purl 1 st from row 3 I-cord, p4. 13 st. on needle.

Flipper:
Row 1: at end of row 3 I-cord, turn.
Row 2 and all even rows: Purl across
Row 3: k1, m1, k1, m1, k1
Row 5: k across
Row 7: k2tog, k1, k2tog
Row 9: k3tog, fasten off.

Body base:
Knit plain for 2 rows.

Body back:
CO 6 st at the end of the next two rows, or as needed for depth of phone. knit plain for length of phone, slightly longer than as for Body Front. BO 3 st, or half the amount you cast on, at the beginning of the next two rows, ending with a wrong side row.

Head:
Row 1: k 17 or to last st on needle, turn leaving last st unworked.
Row 2: p16 or to last st, turn
Row 3: k15 or to last st, turn
Continue to work one less stitch each row, until you have worked 12 rows. You should have 1 st left.

Row 13: k2
Row 14: p3
Row 15: k4
Continue to work one more stitch each row. Your work should fold over on itself and form a point. Cool, huh?

Once you are again working 18 stitches or every stitch on each row, sew up the sides of the pouch while leaving the flap on the needle, and mark where you would like the eyes. Knit the flap plain until it reaches this mark when closed.

Eyes:
Row 1: k4, bo3, k4, bo3, k4
Row 2: p4, co3, p4, co3, p4
If you changed the size of the phone case you will have to use different spacing in the center. Each eyehole should be 3 st wide and evenly spaced from the center
BO all stitches, block flap so it does not curl.
Sew on buttons underneath the button holes.
