Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Politics
I've never been terribly involved in politics before.  In the 2000 presidential election, I was ambivilent, but voted for Gore because I generally lean left, at least on the social issues.  For the past 4 years, I've seen what's happening to this country and it disgusts me.  I'm particularly disgusted by the votes to make marriage between a man and a woman.  The vote we had on the ballot this year was advertised as being to make gay marriage illegal.  It's already illegal.  The part that showed up on the ballot said that marriage will be defined as being between a man and a woman.  The other part of the amendment that did NOT show up on the ballot was that if you voted yes on this amendment, you were also taking away LOTS of rights that same-sex partners already have.  Okay, I totally understand if you feel that the Bible says homosexuality is wrong and that's what you believe. I DON'T understand ammending the Constitution of a country that's supposed to be founded with Freedom of Religion to further your own religious beliefs.  Whether or not gay people get married has absolutely NO effect on a straight persons marriage.  And even if I DID believe homosexuality was wrong, I think it's equally (if not more so) wrong to hate a group of people based on their sexual orientation.

Why do I feel so strongly about this?  I don't really know a lot of gay people.  But I have a young daughter.  What if she's gay?  I don't know.  We won't know for quite a while.  If she IS gay, I don't want her to be denied rights that heterosexual couples enjoy.  And if she's not gay?  It's just not right.  That's how I feel about that.

Anyway, that's my hot button issue, but on other issues I tend to lean left as well.  I do lean right on some fiscal issues, but, at this point, I think the social issues are more important.  So, I generally vote Democrat.  Living in a Red State sucks for me.

Human Rights Campaign - Working for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender equal rights.
Georgia Equality - Georgians working for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender equal rights.
Cherokee County Democratic Party - Self Explanatory.  I just sent in my check and joined the other day.  Technically I'm Independent, but I DEFINITELY lean left.
Fact Check - Nonpartisan site that gives you the facts behind the spin.
Project Vote Smart - Find out who represents you.
Public Issues Guide - Lets you know where people stand on the issues.
Spin Sanity - Countering rhetoric with reason.

Health and Family

If you couldn't tell already, I'm an obsessive planner.  So, when we decided to have a baby, I was searching out information from as many places as I could find.  Below are some of those resources, as well as those for just general family health.

Hungry Girl
EatRight.Org
FamilyDoctor.Org
The Mayo Clinic
MedicineNet
Nutrition Navigator
WebMD
Baby Corner
Infant Development
iParenting
Wholesome Baby Food - If you're lucky enough to be able to make your baby's food, this is a good resource.  We couldn't because of the daycare laws.
Parenting.Com
Parents.Com
Sesame Street Parents
Working Mother Media - Resources for working moms.
Zero to Three - Your child from birth to age 3.
Ask Dr. Sears - THE answer in pregnancy and childbirth...at least from my perspective.  He and his wife are more into attachment parenting and natural childbirth, but their style doesn't make you feel bad if you don't choose to emulate them 100%, which is a LOT better than some authors/groups (like La Leche League).
KellyMom -  Attachment Parenting Resource
American Academy of Pediatrics
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
BabyStyle.Com
Dr. Greene -  Answers questions on pregnancy and baby
Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association
La Leche League - A LOT of LLL people can be militant about breastfeeding, but they have some good resources.
State Farm Free Pregnancy and Baby Book - This book is free to anyone who wants it.  You don't have to have State Farm to get it.
The Merck Manual
Visembryo - Shows your baby at all stages of pregnancy.
US Consumer Product Safety Commission

Georgia Peaches - A group of Weight Watchers from the Georgia message boards on ww.com.
