As I was conned into buying a book of holiday vouchers last year, we decided we better use them.
So I looked for the cheapest appartments in a nice place in the holiday book. I chose Surf Club Appartments at Marcoola Beach on the Sunshine Coast as it is one of the quieter beaches in the area. We packed food into our new car fridge and threw in a few change of clothes and set off. One and a half hours later we were sitting on the balcony sipping tea and listenning to the surf roar and glimpsing the waves through the trees. After that it was time to walk on the beach in the early evening. It is so relaxing and the beach is so natural, without any high rise buildings. Lovely!
Next morning, after a healthy breakfast of muesli, fruit salad and yogurt we set off to explore the local walking tracks.
We walked north along the esplanade and found a lovely track through the forest just behind the sand dunes It was a cool easy walk ,which had many boardwalks leading to the beach. The vegetation was variety of tough trees and undergrowth which could withstand the salty sea breezes. The boardwalks were great and the the beach scenery glorious.
After we returned we decided to visit the famous Eumundi Markets. The weather was a bit showery but not bad enough to spoil our fun. Bill bought a scientific gismo, which cleans gold and silver. We have since tried it and it does a good job. We were lucky to find a table in our favourite cafe for morning tea. Then after some more wandering through the miriad of stalls we ran through the rain to the car. We had a lazy afternoon reading and snoozing until the afternnon flights started arriving at the Sunshine Coast Airport. Now I know why there are no high rise buildings. We were in the flight path of the landing planes. At one stage I looked out the window and was sure the plane was coming in the window. I could see the pilot. Luckily there were only about 4 flights a day.
Sunday morning we explored the walks to the south. The path veered away from the beach and we found ourselves at the end of the airport runway so we headed towards the beach and cut through the jungle until we arrived at the dunes. We climbed up and over to another spectacular view of the beach. We walked along the beach back to the appartment.
Later we drove to Caloundra for lunch and to go to the air museum. It took us a long time to find a parking spot. We found one on top of a hill and walked down to the waterfront where we came upon Alfie Langer's restaurant. They had an excellent special of snapper, chips and salad, a glass of wine and dessert all for $20, and it was delicious. We also had a fantastic view of the water. It was such a nice place we stopped and chatted and watched the kite surfers for a long time and we decided against the museum trip. So returned to our digs for a read and a nap and one final evening walk on the beach before leaving in the morning.
