End of the year tournament--Uniform's Unlimited Classic

The End of the year tournament featured 6 teams.  All 6 teams supplied us with excitement.  Team Glenn had 3 guys who were making their debut and although they dropped their only 2 games, they gave Rocko's a run for their money in the first game losing 19-16.  Gordy's construction a late addition to the tourney featured 5 players who haven't hit a wiffleball since years ago bbq's in the backyard.  Robbie Hurley in his first at bat launched a 115 foot bomb over the left field fence, but still that was not enough as they fell in 2 straight games.  Just do it, a former champ featuring Kenny Carey and Gary Gray just could not get it together this year and finished in 4th place despite the good effort of heckling done by Gary Gray.  In third place Team Rocko's which featured Mark Timmons as the only player who had 2 years experience in the ESWBA on the team, made a good run but loses to Team Capo in the loser's bracket finals.  They showed a bright future for the league next year and look for them to compete for the title next season.  Which brings us to the best championship games in ESWBA history.  Team Capo vs Bomb Squad.  A rematch of this years World Series.  Things were different in this tourney.  BomB Squad welcomed a new edition to their team, Everett Sykes(No Johnnies) became the hired gun to take down Team Capo.  This addition would pay off, Everett in the winners bracket final outduel Team Capo and defeated them in a close game.  In the championship Everett was once again up to the task, but so was Dave Capobianco pitching scoreless 3 innings.  Kevin Lindsey had to come in for the final inning up 1-0, 1 out and Chris Shockley came to the plate and hit a ball that started foul down the left field line but curved back to just clear the left field wall.  Lindsey would get out of the inning at 1-1 and we went to extra innings.  After 5 we were still tied, and then Team Capo would get 2 in the top of the 6th inning.  In the bottom of the 6th, Bomb Squad answered with 1 of their own and then with 1 out and the bases loaded (tourney MVP) Chris Shockley stepped up again and hit a walk off double to deep center to give the Bomb Squad their first ever tournament victory.  It was the best game in ESWBA history and what great moment for this game to happend in its last official ESWBA game that was held at the Salisbury School.  The league will be moving next year to the Somerset Complex gym in Princess Anne.  A much bigger and better location for the league.  Also look for the league to host the first ever outside wiffleball tournament sometime this spring/summer.   Thank you for a great season.
