What you need for a game:
- Four bases
- The four bases will be the firt patch for first, either bench or object for second, and a cone or other object for third.
- There should be a plate for home base.
- You must have at least two players on each team. Having a catcher is optional.
- The teams must be picked fairly.
- The captains have to be about the same age.
- Optional: Use the hands on the bat technique to see who picks first.
Getting Someone Out:
-
If
there is a fly ball then you can catch the ball to get the batter
out. You can catch and get them out even if it hits a tree.
-
Mound
out: You can get the batter out by bringing or throwing the ball to
first base or the pitcher's mound before the batter gets to
first. This only works for first base. When throwing the
ball there needs to be someone to catch on first base or the
pitcher's mound.
When you are at bat:
- In an at bat you will have three strikes and four balls.
- If you get three strikes then you are out
- If you get four balls then the count is reset.
- When
you foul a ball off this is counted for a strike the first two
times. In other words you can't get a third strike for
fouling a ball off.
- If you look at a pitch and it hits the chair it is a strike.
- If the
pitcher lobs the ball and it goes very high it is not a strike but
if the ball is at your head or below and it hits the chair it is a
strike.
- When a ball is coming that appears as if it is going to hit you then you can stand still, back out, but you cannot lean in.
The Chair (behind home plate):
- The chair determines whether a pitch is a ball or a strike.
- When the pitch hits any part of the chair it is a strike no matter what, unless the pitch is over the batters head.
- There is no sitting on the chair during an at bat. Catchers may sit on the chair.
Foul or Not:
- When a ball is hit left of the tree behind the very left part of the outfield fence it is foul.
- If it goes to the right of the tree it is fair even if it goes left of the third base marker.
- If
the ball is right of the tree and left of the third base marker then
the third base marker must be moved. The marker should be right
between home plate and the foul pole tree.
- The
foul boundary on the right side is the umbrella directly behind the right end of the wall of the flower
garden. You do not have to move first base to make it lined up
because first base is permanent. In the pool is automatically a
foul ball.
Home Run or Not:
- If the ball is hit over the fence or into the patio area it is declared a home run.
- If
someone gets a hit that hits a tree and it seems that it would
definitely be a home run then it's a home run and not tree interference.
Tree Interference:
- When the batter gets a hit and the ball hits the tree hard or if it hits the tree and totally changes direction then this is tree interference. This is not counted as a strike, foul, or a ball.
- If the ball brushes through a tree or it it doesn't change direction very much and one of the fielder catches it the player is out.
- If the ball is hit very hard and is going to be a home run but hits a tree but hits a tree then it's a home run.
