Our railway is a five inch gauge ride on railway which is set in the garden, at West Wickham, Kent, England.
To date we have four locomotives three of which are powered by electricity from car style batteries and one of which a real live steam train running on coal.
It all started for us after We were given an electric train now called Thomas and short lengths of steel which we had to form into Rails by spacing with steel thread. We then laid the rail in our sideway and rode up and down all 30 feet of it.
The seed however had been sowed and it grew from there, it currently is 400 feet in length.
The picture on the left shows our then two year old driving Thomas before he was given a makeover in 2000.
Picture on right taken summer 2004 of Ruby loco.
My inspiration comes from a very early age (around 4 years) when We used to go to Greatstone for a family Holiday. My brother about 7 years and I were given a weekly pass to run up and down on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which We did just about all day. Funny couldnt see leaving My kids at that age to do that totally unsupervised. Not sure if We were neglected then or times have changed.
