Book of Shadows

I have compiled my own BOS, but I am going to attempt to put as many spells and rituals as I can online here.

Casting a Circle:

Chant:
Maiden, cast your circle white Weave a web of healing light.
Mother, cast your circle red Weave the strands of family threads
Enchantress, cast your circle green Weave the fiber of worlds between
Old Crone, cast your circle black Weave the wisdom that we lack.

Cutting a Door in the Circle:

At times you may have to leave the circle. This is fine, of course, but passing through the circle dissipates it. To prevent this from occurring it's traditional to cut a doorway. To do this, face Northeast. Hold your athame point downward near the ground. See and sense the circle before you. Pierce its wall of energy with the athame and trace an archway, tall enough to walk through, moving counter-clockwise along the circle for about three feet. Move the point of the athame up at the arch's center and down the other side until it is near the ground. As you're doing this, visualize that area of the circle's energy being sucked back into the athame. This creates a void, allowing passage in and out of the circle. Pull the athame out of the circle's wall. You're free to walk outside. Once back inside, close the door by placing the athame at the lower North-Eastern point of the archway. With your athame trace the circle's perimeter clockwise, as if redrawing that portion of the Circle of Stones, again visualizing blue or purple energy flaring out from the blade and converging with the rest of the circle. It is done.

Releasing the Circle:

Once the rite is ended, face North, hold aloft the wand and say:

Farewell, Spirit of the North Stone. I give thanks for your presence here. Go in power.

Repeat this same formula to the East, South and West, substituting the proper direction in the words. Then return to the North and hold the wand aloft for a few moments. Lay the wand on the altar. Take up the athame. Standing in the North, pierce the circle's wall with the blade at waist level. Move clockwise around the circle, visualizing it's power being sucked back into the athame. Literally pull it back into the blade and handle. Sense the circle dissolving, shrinking; the outside world slowly regaining its dominance in the area. When you arrive at the North again, the circle is no more.

Calling the Quarters

East: Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtower of the East, the powers of Water. I invoke you and call you, flow of life, crystal clear, ever renewing coolness share. Be here! So Mote It Be.

South: Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtower of the South, the powers of Air. I invoke you and call you, breath of life, sea breeze, softly moving through the trees. Be here! So Mote It BE.

West: Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtower of the West, the powers of Fire. I invoke you and call you, flame of life, burning bright, giving guidance in the night. Be here! So Mote It Be.

North: Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtower of the North, the powers of Earth. I invoke you and call you, rock of life, salt and granite, everliving blessed planet. Be here! So Mote It Be.

Full Moon Esbat Rite

* Candles are blue-white-orange or green-white-red
* Incense my be bay, sandalwood, or frankincense
* Altar should have a bell, a bowl of salt,and a bowl
* of water on it, as well as the usual tools. Have any spell work materials ready on the altar

(To perform this rite you should have a working knowledge of circle casting and power raising.)

Sweep circle area; lay our circle and altar items; bathe and robe. Light incense and altar candles. Ring bell three times and say:

The circle is about to be cast and I freely stand within to greet my Lady and my Lord.

Take center candle, there are either three in a candelabra one before each section of the altar) and light each candle of the circle moving north, then east, south, and west, and say:

(N) I call upon light and earth at the north to illuminate and strengthen the circle.
(E) I call upon light and air at the east to illuminate and enliven the circle.
(S) I call upon light and fire at the south to illuminate and warm the circle.
(W) I call upon light and water at the west to illuminate and cleanse the circle.

Take athame in hand upraised and begin circle at North. Move around the circle north to east to south to west, and say:

I draw this circle in the presence of the Goddess and the God where they may come and bless their child, (your name).

Lower the athame at the North, and as you walk around the circle, envision a blue light shooting out from the point and forming the circle boundary, and say:

This is the boundary of the circle.
Only love shall enter and leave.

Return to altar and ring bell three times. Place point of athame in the salt and say:

Salt is life and purifying.
I bless this salt to be used in this sacred circle in the names of the Goddess and God (names).

Pick up salt bowl and use tip of athame to drop three portions of slat into the water bowl and set bowl back in its place. Stir three times with athame and say:

Let the blessed salt purify this water that it may be blessed to use in this sacred circle.
In the names of the Goddess and the God(names), I consecrate and cleanse this water.

Take the salted water bowl in hand and sprinkle water from it as you move deosil around the circle (N-E-S-W-N-) and say:

I consecrate this circle in the names of the Goddess and God, (names).
The circle is conjured a circle of power that is purified and sealed.
So mote it be!

Return the water bowl to the altar and pick up censer, take it around the circle to cense it; return censer to altar. Take anointing oil and make a Solar Cross ringed by a circle on your forehead, and say:

I, (your name) am consecrated in the names of the Goddess and the God, (names, in this, their circle.

Take the wand and hold it aloft, with both arm open and upraised at the north or the circle (envision a powerful bull arriving) and say:

I call upon you, Elemental Earth,
to attend this rite and guard this circle,
for as I have body and strength,
we are kith and kin!

Lower wand and move to the east, raise up wand (see devas, faeries, or an eagle in flight) and say:

I call upon you, Elemental Air,
to attend this rite and guard this circle
For as I breathe and think,
We are kith and kin.

Lower wand and move to the south, raise up wand (see a dragon) and say:

I call upon you, Elemental Fire,
To attend this rite and guard this circle
For as I consume life to live
We are kith and kin!

Lower wand and move to the west, hold wand aloft (see an undine, a sea serpent, or a dolphin) and say:

I call upon you, Elemental Water
To attend this rite and guard this circle
For as I feel and my heart beats
We are kith and kin!

Return to the altar and use wand to draw in the air above the altar the symbol of infinity (an 8 lying on its side), the sign of working between the worlds. Set wand on altar, raise up athame in both hands overhead, and say:

Hail to the elementals at the four quarters!
Welcome Lady and Lord to this rite!
I stand between the worlds
With love and power all around!

Set down athame and pick up goblet of wine. Pour a little into the cauldron. This is a libation to the Divine in which they are honored by offering to them the first draught, then you take a sip. You may prefer to have a bowl specifically for the libation. Ring bell three times. Raise the wand in greeting, and say:

I, (your craft or working name), who am your child, stand between the worlds
and call upon my Lady and my Lord, (names) to hold communion with me.

Ring bell three times and say:

If it harms none, do what you will.
Thus runs the Witch's Rede.
Once more I affirm my joy of life and
union with the Lady and the Lord.
I honor the God and the Goddess,
for the favors they have bestowed upon me,
and ask their blessings upon me.
(Instead of the Rede. You could say, "I
acknowledge that what I send out returns to me
and conduct my Craft accordingly," or address your own thoughts.)

Set the salted water on the pentacle, hold the athame over it, and say:

Great Mother, bless this creature
May I always remember the cauldron waters
of rebirth and the many forms and beings
of the blessed earth. Of water and earth am I.

Hold water bowl aloft, and say:

Great Mother, I honor you
(You are showing your respect for the Lady and the element that represents her in this ritual)

Replace the water bowl in the proper place on the altar. Place censer on the pentacle, hold athame over it, and say:

Great Father, bless this creature
Of fire and of air to your service.
May I always remember the sacred fire
That dances within every creation
And hear the voices of the Divine.
Of fire and air am I

Raise the censer aloft and say:

Great Father, I honor you!

Return censer to the proper place on the altar. Raise the cup of wine up and say:

Power and grace; beauty and strength
Are in the Lady and the Lord both
Patience and love, wisdom and knowledge.
I honor you both!

Pour a libation into the cauldron and take a sip of wine. Stand at the altar, facing north, open arms upraised and feet apart, say:

Behold the Great Lady,
Who travels the sky;
The stars shine around her
And light up the night

Take up wand and say:

Lovely Lady known by so many names,
but known to me as (name/s)
with (God's name)at your side,
honor and reverence I give to you and invite you
to join with me on this, your special night.
Descend my Lady and speak with your child,
Whom you have named (your name)

At this time you may hear her speak something pertinent to you, or if you needed guidance on a matter, she will instruct you. Replace the wand on the altar. You may now do any spell work, divinations, consecrations, etc. at this time

Once the workings are done it is time for "Cakes and Wine" and then time to close the circle.

Consecrate your Tools

Supplies needed Incense
Candle, white
Water
Earth, dirt
Tool intended for consecration

Carrying out the spell

After casting your circle, take a moment to meditate with the tool intended for consecration. Make sure that you want this tool as your own, also make sure the tool feels the same way. Once you are ready, then proceed on.

Bless the tool, facing in the direction:
East; air- incense
South; fire- candle
West; water- water
North; earth- earth
With each element, say:
"Guardians of the Watchtowers of the (direction), please aid me in the consecration of this (tool's title)."

Pass the tool through the corresponding element while repeating: "I, (craft name) consecrate this tool with the element of (direction's element) in witness of the God and Goddess. So mote it be!"

After the tool has been blessed in all directions, it is now time to be blessed by the final element, Spirit. Bring the tool close to your heart and meditate with it. Check it energy levels and if it is thoroughly cleansed and consecrated. Ask it. Make sure that it is happy with the cleansing and consecration and most of all, you. Imagine infusing the energy with in the tool and your self together as you hold it. Let some of your energy enter the tool and some of the tools' enter you. This is blessing by spirit.

When you are certain that you and the tool are ready, say aloud: "An ye harm none, do as ye will"

Close your circle.

Your tool is now blessed.

To guard or protect yourself

PREPARATION:

Incense can be used such as: patchouly, sandalwood or cimmamon.

RITUAL:

This is a small spell that can be repeated out-loud or silently to yourself. I use this to ground myself when I feel stress or nervous also. As you say these words, feel yourself being enclosed in a whitelight of protection. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary. Chant:

Bound, bound, bound
Wound around
Guard me now
Sky to ground
