West Hartford may not know it, but there are plenty of skaters, especially in the Elmwood area. For years we had to travel to OTHER TOWNS to skate at a skate park. Newington and Wethersfield are some towns that have skate parks, as well as Bristol and Windsor. We don't want to travel to another town just to skate. We want a local skate park, so we wouldn't have to trouble our parents for rides.
Why do skaters need this? Simple. It's a place to skate. Business owners and public property owners are TIRED of skaters ruining thier property. Well, WE HAVE NO OTHER PLACE TO SKATE. If you don't want us to skate around your business or store, you should do something about it, instead of just complaining. And us skaters are tired of being kicked out. We want a place where we could skate for as long as we want without having to worry about being kicked out. This is why we need a skate park.
The Town Council clearly doesn't want to buy thier own property just for a skate park. Beachland is already owned by them, so the Town wouldn't have to buy land, saving plenty of money already. The park is easily accessed and can be entered from 3 sides. Beachland is also in the middle of Elmwood, where most of the skater population is located.
