The Cottage Local Attractions
  • Situated in a Derbyshire village just south of Matlock, The Cottage is on a south-facing hillside with splendid valley views over the River Derwent.

  • A 17th century, stone-built, country cottage, it is detached, has two bedrooms, beamed ceilings and mullioned windows.

  • The accommodation sleeps 4. The main room has a beamed ceiling and a woodblock floor with lounge seating and a dining table. A colour television, radio, DVD and video player is provided. There are also plentiful books and games (chess, scrabble, etc.)

  • The separate kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, and cooking utensils. There is an oil-fired Aga, which is lit in winter or by arrangement.

  • An iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner are provided.

  • The main bedroom has a double bed and views over the valley; a second bedroom sleeps two in adult-sized bunk beds.

  • The upstairs bathroom has a toilet, hand basin, bath with shower, and an electric razor point. A hair-dryer is also provided.

  • A conservatory/porch has views over the Derwent Valley.

  • The garden has an off-road parking space.

  • Bed linen is provided, but guests are asked to bring their own bath towels.

  • All heating and lighting is provided and The Cottage is very 'cosy' in winter.

  • With many local attractions and places to eat, The Cottage is an excellent base for a holiday.

  • An excellent area for rambling, Crich Chase, Shining Cliff Wood, Cromford Canal and other walks may be enjoyed.

  • The 50 mile ‘Derwent Heritage Way’ footpath is at the foot of the hill. The valley is a World Heritage Site.

  • Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Kedleston Hall are just a few miles by car.

  • The ancient, Roman lead-mining town of Wirksworth and the mining museum in Cromford are within easy reach.

  • Visit Derbyshire’s unique well-dressing ceremonies.

  • The National Tramway Museum in Crich is just one mile away.

  • Visit the Ecclesbourne Valley Steam Railway, Peak Rail, and the Steeple Grange light railway.

  • Children will enjoy ‘Gulliver’s Kingdom’ – the theme park in nearby Matlock Bath

  •  Alton Towers is an approximate 45 minutes drive away.

  • For the energetic, rock-climbing, ballooning, hang-gliding and caving may be persued.

  • The local rivers and Carsington reservoir provide opportunity for the angler.

  • The TV series ‘Peak Practice’ is filmed in the locality.

  • The rock face and cave featured in ‘Stig of the Dump’ -  a BBC series is only about half-a-mile away.

Dine out at a local pub or restaurant - one is within easy walking distance.
