BDP vs Juice Crew

This battle started when Boogie Down Productions went to see Mr Magic and to cut a long story short, he didn't like BDP's style and they believed along the line said they where wack! KRS-One took offence to this because he believed artists Mr Magic were supporting were wack. So he went and wrote South Bronx which was aimed at MC Shan because Shan had a track named Queensbridge. So South Bronx was about how Hip Hop started in The Bronx and NOT Queensbridge. KRS-One went at Shan with plenty of of classic lines like "Instead of tryin to take out LL, you need to take ya home boys off the crack". MC Shan responded to South Bronx with a track called Kill That Noise which sampled the South Bronx chant, followed by "Kill that noise". BDP quickly came back with The Bridge Is Over probably one of the best (if not the best) diss tracks of all times, KRS-One pulled no punches with now infamous lines like, "Manhattan keeps on makin it, Brooklyn keeps on takin it, Bronx keeps creatin it, and Queens keeps on fakin it". This is most likely one of the most famous rap battles ever.

LL Cool J vs Kool Moe Dee

There are many stories surrounding the cause of this battle, one is that Kool Moe Dee thought that LL had stolen his style and LL was getting too big headed. Moe Dee took the first shot getting at LL on How You Like Me Now. LL came back with Jack The Ripper, a great track by Cool J. Kool Moe Dee's response was the amazing Let's Go, inwhich Moe Dee explains what LL stands for; "Now LL Stands For Lower Level, Lack Luster, Last, Least, Lip Lover, Lousy, Lame, Late, Lethargic, Lazy, Lemon, Little Logic, Lucky Leach, Liver Lipped, Laborious Louse On A Losers List. Live In Limbo, Lyrical Lapse, Low-Life With A Loud Rasp, Boy...". Let's Go was undoubtly a great attack on LL and it gave Kool Moe Dee the edge over Cool J. LL's next mention of Moe Dee was on To Da Break Of Dawn, but it was unable to measure up against Let's Go, because LL was also getting at Hammer and Ice-T on the same track. Moe Dee bought out a response to To Da Break Of Dawn, titled Deathblow which was ignored by LL and others so the battle simply died down. LL has metioned Kool since on I Shot Ya Remix; "..Crushed Moe Dee, Hammer and Ice-T's girl".

Shaq vs Skillz

In a track Shaq said:“I dont care how “mad” your “skillz” is you cant serve me.. .” Skillz was unsure about the lines at first but people kept coming to him talking about Shaq dissin him, so Skillz desided to respond. Skillz came at Shaq with a track named The Champ Is Here. Then Skillz came with more tracks and also a full mixtape dissing Shaq. Shaq finally responded to Skillz, but the damage had already been done! Skillz is the clear winner of this battle. Shaq didn't come out this battle looking to great but Corey Gunz came out looking OK, Corey Gunz was featured on Shaq's Say What You Say and also had a Freestyle going at Skillz. Skillz and Gunz almost went against each other freestyling live on radio but rumour has it Corey backed out.

After meeting in prison and having a freestyle battle with each other, K-Solo and DMX got to talking. The beef started when both rappers came out with sounds called Spellbound. Both claimed the other stole the idea for the track. DMX took the first shot after Spellbound, on Get At Me Dog, sayin, ".. that nigga K can suck my dick...". K-Solo responded to DMX on The Answer Back, rhyming over different beats, talking about DMX smoking crack, DMX getting raped in prison and who wrote Spellbound.

Chingy vs Nelly

Chingy claimed that Nelly (and Ludacris) have both took subliminal shots at him. Nelly admitted that he did aim a line at Chingy, "I like it how you do it right thurr /You just to remember why you do that right thurr" on his track Another One . So Chingy made a track called We Got which featured his crew, dissing Nelly. St Lunatics rapper Ali has responded with Get It Bitch and Mafuka which both over shaddow Chingy's attack on Nelly. Ali talked about plenty of things from how wack Chingy's crew was to how Chingy got touch up by a transvestite. Nelly's sent a line or two towards Chingy on his track Err Time.

Jay-Z vs Nas

One of the most infamous battles in recent years is Jay-Z vs Nas. While most people will tell you that this all began when Jay first performed Takeover at Summer Jam there is alot more than meets the eye. Firstly before Nas battled Jay he took out Bleek. Also there are numberous tracks by both artists that could be questioned because of the lyrics that sound like they are indirectly dissing each other. One of them tracks is Nas' Come Get Me. It is also well known that Jay would constantly mention Nas in his rhymes. Also a Nas DJ Clue Freestyle could be seen to take shots at Jay; "Y’all niggas, all hail the king is dead, He’s running like a bitch with a tail in-between his legs, Stillmatic, still eye for an eye, You wanna be God, You just the next rapper to die, fuckin’ wit’ Nas". But don't think it was just Nas taking (possible) shots, Jay was at it too. On a DJ Graig G Freestyle Jay spat the lines; "It’s ROC, power moves, c’mon fuck your weak team, whose glock’ll wake your block up out the street dreams? Who’s the one in the optics wit’ mamis steadily watchin’, While your fans complainin’, sayin’ you no longer makin’ hot shit, Get that state of mind right, concentrate on your lyrics, And not the gossip, I’d hate to lift your spirits". Also tracks like Is That Your Bitch could have easily been aimed at Nas. The battle between these two rap icons became public when Jay did debute Takeover, with just the first verses (that attacked Mobb Deep) and ended with "Ask Nas he don't want it with Hov, Noooo!". Nas' response to Jay was Stillmatic Freestyle (a/k/a H To The OMO), a rhyme over a Rakim & Eric B beat which attacked Jay-Z but also Freeway, Beans and Bleek. After that most of the ROC camp went to the radio to diss Nas in Freestyles. Jay's response to Nas would come in the form of extra verses on Takeover when he added it to his album. The new verses of Takeover went at Nas hard, talking about him flopping and not putting out anything good since Illmatic. Takeover was seen as one of the best diss tracks ever made and the pressure was beginning to mount on Nas to respond and save his career. Ether was the name of the track that Nas responded with and it brought him right back into the battle. Nas' Ether is also seen as one of the best diss tracks ever. After Ether Jay desided to jack a Nas beat (Got Urself A Gun) and remake it into a diss, and he did, that came in the form of the Hot 97 Exclusive Superugly. On Superugly Jay claimed that he slept with Nas' baby mother; Carmen. It was seen as a good track but just not as good as Ether. The battle continued with both artists taking shots at each other, Nas was more subliminal with tracks like Everybody's Crazy, You're Da Man and Salute Me. While Nas seemed to want to end the beef Jay continued to attack Nas on tracks like Liar, Blueprint and Don't You Know. Nas' God's Son album had the track Last Real Nigga Alive on it, on this Nas broke down the whole past of him and Jay and it really had a feel that Nas was done with the battle. Finally things were calming down. There was still the slight bit of tension between the two emcees and still possible subliminal shots, check out Nas' verse on the Braveheats Quick To Back Down, but all in all the battle is over.

Cam'ron & Diplomats vs Nas & Bravehearts

This started when Nas blew off some steam on Power 105. Nas proseeded to diss many artists, one of them being Cam'ron, Nas told him "I like Cam he's a good lyricist ... but the album's wack". Cam'ron responded to Nas on the radio, and then released Hate Me Now, a diss to Nas over his own beat. Cam stated that the track was recorded the very same day Nas dissed him on the radio. Instead of responding himself, Nas got Nashawn to respond with Write Your Name. Nashawn went on to make claims that Cam'ron had AIDs and that "Jenny" Jones would get his whole head split. Juelz Santana responded to Nashawn's diss with Champions Freestyle which questioned Nas' respect for his squad. Nas has taken shots at Cam'ron but he's usually subliminal about it. Nas' track Zone Out (with Bravehearts) features a few lines aimed at Cam, one of them being "You got a House In Virginia, The only way you sicker than us". Jim Jones remixed Kelis' (Nas' Wife) Milkshake hit to turn it into a diss towards both Nas and Kelis. This beef seems to have slowed down but not come to a complete end. On Nas' song Street's Disciple he takes a sublime at Diplomats, "Blood and white chalk makes pink, so what's that make you?" because Cam'ron and company are now famous for their pink clothes. Nashawn had a recent Freestyle (on P-Cutta's Street Wars 12) taking shots at Cam, "I blaze killin' these faggots, they wear pink..". Jim Jones took a shot at Nas on Summer With Jim Jones. Nas' track The N, contains a few lines that suggest Cam'ron and Dipset never fazed Nas: "Bitches want my chip tooth back, Still mack, So My Kufi never get smacked". Cam also takes a shot at Nas on a diss aimed at Jay-Z, named You Must Not Know.
