"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us."

The Faith of The Syrophoenician Woman
Matthew 15:21-28

What are the lessons we can learn from the Syrophoenician woman?

Why was she successful in getting an answer to her request?

Let's look at what was happening.
Jesus was withdrawing from busy ministry by going north towards Tyre and Sidon. Being the focus of attention and debating with the Pharisees was wearing on Him, so He didn't want His arrival to be known. But He couldn't escape notice. News reached a Syrophoenician woman and she immediately came to Him.

She repeatedly cried out to Jesus and the disciples saying, "Have mercy on me, my daughter is cruelly demon possessed."

Jesus doesn't answer her. The disciples lost their patience with her and ask Jesus to send her away. He doesn't answer their request either. She then comes closer and repeatedly asks for mercy. Jesus kept responding that He was sent to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.

She came right up to Jesus and bowed down before Him and said, "Lord help me."

Jesus responds, "it is not right to give the children's food to the dogs."

She responds, "Yes Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children's fallen crumbs."

Faith is patient.

Because of her answer of faith, Jesus healed her daughter at once.

What did the woman do that demonstrates this great faith?

Because of the love for her daughter, she sought an answer from Jesus.
When she hears of Jesus, she immediately comes to where Jesus was.
She calls out to Him as she approaches Him.
When she gets to Him, she falls at His feet and worships Him.
She does not let a lack of response from Jesus stop her.
She does not let the opposition of the religious leaders stop her.
She does not let the reasoning of Jesus stop her.
She does not let offense stop her.
She does not let a pre-planned method stop her.
She keeps asking until she gets the answer.
She didn't take no for an answer.

What should faith cause us to do?

Faith causes us to respond to the love that is in our heart.
Faith draws us to Jesus.
Faith causes us to seek Him.
Faith worships Him.
Faith converses with Him.
Faith wrestles with Him.
Faith goes around, over, or through all obstacles.
Faith is patient.
Faith is not offended.
