Jesus sided with the poor. He was born poor. He accepted poverty as a lifestyle. He left heaven with all the trappings of deity and lived as a man. (Phil. 2) Jesus laid down His life even unto death for the reward of the joy set before Him. (Heb 12:2)
There is a reward for service. Jesus told Peter that though he gave up all to follow Him he would receive more now and in the future. We can trust God with our future.
People are called to service which may include poverty. When you apply yourself to a certain job that excludes you from other activities. Some ministries may restrict you from gaining wealth. God will reward you richly. We are told to flee riches and seek God. The Apostle Paul found himself in this situation.
?To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are roughly treated, and are homeless; and we toil working with our own hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure; when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.? 1 Cor. 4:11-13
Suffering for sufferings sake is ridiculous. What Paul is doing is living for the betterment of others and is not taking thought for himself. ?For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.? 2 Tim 1:12
His joy and goal was to see others advance in their walk with the Lord. ?For now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord.?1 Thes. 3:8 O may God put that in our hearts.
Does God give us money to manage or to give away? The vast majority claim that we should be stewards of what God has given us. Would a well off steward spend 80% to 90% on himself instead of his master's affairs? We can?t serve two masters. Matt.6:24
"Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves." (Rom. 15:1)
