"If you can? All things are possible to him who believes." Mark 9:23

WHY CAN’T PEOPLE SEE THE LIGHT OF GOD?

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Jesus in the Gospel of John

Jesus said He came that we might have life and have it abundantly. The purpose of this study is to learn who Jesus is and show how we can have abundant life. Father, I want to know more about Your Son, Jesus Christ. Let lour Spirit teach me Your Words in the Book of John, so that I might have this abundant life that Jesus talks about.

THE WORD

Who is the Word?

Read John 1:1.

Where was the Word?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What did the Word do? John. 1:14 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus, being with the Father and equal with the Father, because He is God, came to earth. The Father sent Jesus to earth. If we hear what Jesus says in our hearts and then believe it, what three things will happen? Jn. 5:24 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________________________________

In I Samuel 12:24, it says that if we fear the Lord, serve Him and listen to His voice, then we will be following the Lord. This is what it means to abide in the Word of Jesus. Read John 8:31-32.

What three things happen if you abide in Jesus' Word?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What happens if we reject Jesus and His Words? John. 12:48

________________________________________________________________________________________________

To believe in Jesus is more than to acknowledge that He existed, or that what He said is right. To believe in Jesus is to act on what He said, if I told you that your house was going to fall down when the next strong wind came? you might agree with me, but if you didn't do something (either leave or fix your house)', then you didn't believe me.

If we follow God's commandments, what are two things Jesus will do? John. 14:21

LIVING WATER

Natural water quenches thirst. What does the water of Jesus do? John. 4:14?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________________________________

It quenches our thirst. But, it is not the thirst of the body;
it is spiritual thirst. How do we get this water from Jesus? John. 7:38-39

________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you have accepted the free gift of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is in you. Call to God to fill you with His Spirit and He will.

BREAD

Remember (John 1:1,14) that Jesus left heaven, where He was with the Father, and became a man. What does John 6:48 show us about Jesus?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Bread is a type of food that we use to refer to as what is needed to sustain life, just as bread sustains our physical bodies, Jesus' Words sustain our spiritual lives. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." What do you receive if-you eat Jesus' bread? John. 6:51

________________________________________________________________________________________________

As we eat bread, it becomes part of our physical body. in the same way, our spiritual being is built up as we believe in the Words of Jesus.

JESUS IS THE LIGHT OP THE WORLD

Light is a very important element in our world, without light we can't do very much. Jesus refers to Himself as light. Why did Jesus come? John. 12:46

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Darkness is the absence of light, in the spiritual realm, darkness is the absence of Jesus. In darkness we do not know where we are going. Jesus has come to show us the way to spiritual life, in Jesus was what? John. 1 :4

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus is our example. What does John 8:12 say about those who follow him?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

When the true light comes into the world, what does it do? John. 1:9

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus has come that we may believe in Him so that we can become what? John. 12:35-36

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Psalms 119:105 says,* "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." This light shows us the way to Jesus.

THE WAY

John 14:6 - "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes unto the Father but by Me." Only one street leads to your house. If you want to get to your house, you must take the street that it is on. It is the same with God; there is only one way to God, and it is through His Son, Jesus Christ. There are many religions and many churches. There is only one way to God, and that is believing in Jesus Christ, frany good works are done for the sake of salvation,, but they will not do any good. The way to God is to accept Jesus as your saviour, to-receive Him by grace. It is a free gift to those who will trust their lives to Him.

TRUTH

John 14:6 - "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but through Me." What Jesus said is true. Jesus' life was truth. His death was true; it was a true sacrifice. His resurrection was true. It has more historical proof than most lives of famous leaders. You can't have truth if you don't have Jesus. You can know some true facts and philosophies, but you would not know the truth without Jesus, the author of truth.

SHEPHERD

Read John 10:1-30

List four things a shepherd does in verses 1-5.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

How do we know a person is not a shepherd of the sheep? Jn. 10:5,12,13

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus now explains the parable, who or what is the door? John. 10:9 _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Why did. Jesus come? John. 10:10

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

King David in his youth was a shepherd. When he was put in charge of his father's sheep, he fulfilled his job to the fullest. When a bear attacked, he fought the bear and killed it. He also fought off a lion and killed it. Jesus is our Shepherd, and He fought for us. He died for us on the cross, so that we might be saved from the penalty of sin.

THE VINE

What is the vine? John. 15:1

________________________________________________________________________________________________

How are we related to the vine? John. 15:5 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

What are we to do in relationship to the vine? Jn. 15:4 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Why are we to do this? v. 4 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

We won't bear fruit if we aren't united to the vine. The idea of the vine and the branches is to show unity, our purpose must always be to serve Jesus. What are the conditions to answered prayer? John. 15:7

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What is Jesus' commandment? John. 15:12

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Apart from Jesus we can do nothing. We should love others as Jesus ) loved us. Our lives should be as fervent as Jesus lived for us.

THE DIETY OF CHRIST

Who was with God, and who was God? John. 1:1

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Who became flesh? John. 1:14

________________________________________________________________________________________________

It is interesting to note that in Revelation 19:13, Jesus is called "The Word of God." John. 1:29-30 - John the Baptist was born before Jesus, yet what does he say about Jesus in verse 30?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus had a mother (John 2:1). Did Jesus have emotions? John. 11:35

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus had thirst. John. 4:7 So, Jesus had feelings and needs like we have. Why were the Jews trying to kill Jesus? John. 5:18

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What did Peter say of Jesus? John. 6:68-69

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What does Jesus say of Himself? John. 10:30 ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Why do the Jews try to stone Jesus? John. 10:33

________________________________________________________________________________________________

So, the Gospel of John presents Jesus Christ as a man and as the Son of God, and He is equal with God.
