When Moses went up the Mountain of God for 40 days they complained about how long they had to wait for Moses. They asked Aaron to make them a god. Aaron did and they worshiped it.
I thought to myself, "What were they thinking? Didn't they know that they would have to pay for what they were doing?"
But then I thought, "I am the same as the Israelites. I complain even when my needs are met." For instance, when the gas bill is higher then expected, I will complain that I don't want to spend the money. When the car needs to be fixed I will complain because I have to spend the money on the car and be inconvenienced while it is in the shop.
But what am I supposed to do when these small irritations come my way? Use worry and anxiety as a place to start faith. Pray to God and tell Him what you are concerned about. (Phil. 4:6) Rejoice that God will provided! Look at the problem as a stepping stone to a new provision from God. I want to learn God's promises and trust Him to meet my needs. If I don't trust Him for the small needs, I will be tempted to forget about God and just be religious. When the big problems come I may be blown away. So, I repented of my attitude and thanked God that He is always with me.
Not long after this I was tested by a snowstorm while driving home in my old pick-up, in a snow storm. The bridges over the Missouri River were crowded. I thought I would skirt around one traffic tie up and go to another bridge that in the past was not hard to get over.
When I got to the bridge it was worse than the bridge that I left. I resigned myself to wait it out and get home. Then I noticed that my heater was not working and the temperature gage was moving higher than normal. My thermostat wasn't working and I was trapped in a traffic snarl and no way to get out of it if I wanted to get home.
The gage was moving faster up than I was moving toward the bridge. Should I just pull off the road and wait for a couple of hours or should I go on. I decided to inch on for a while because I could pull off the side of the road if the engine overheated or if the pressure burst a hose. I prayed that God would get me home. And rejoiced in Him to work through the situation.
I did not think that I would get much further until the needle would get to the red and then I would be damaging my engine. To my amazement just before it got to the red it started going down. Praise God I was going to get home in a short time.
God answered prayer. He showed me that prayer and praise work better than worry. Worry won't get you anywhere. God can get you everywhere. Thank you Jesus.
I changed out my thermostat while listening to a tape by Bishop Wellington Boone. I was ministered to while I worked on my truck. The blessings of God continue.
The difference between responding to a problem by complaining or rejoicing is our expectation. If we look to God we will rejoice in His promises to meet our needs. If we are not expecting God to intervene in our life when problems come, we complain.
Live in expectation by living a life of faith and obedience to the direction He has given. Rejoice in God, expecting Him to guide you in every situation.
