We
are sad to report the loss of Wind & Fire member and fellow
firefighter Lonnie Kerr. We lost Lonnie to a motorcycle accident
in Wray, Colorado on August 2, 2000. He was on his way to
Sturgis.
He
was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather and volunteered
his time to many youth athletics programs in the Kingwood
and Porter communities.
Lonnie
served 2 years of active duty in the US Navy, then continued
to serve through the Naval Reserve. He joined the Houston
Fire Department in 1970 with a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science
Technology from the University of Houston. At the time of
his passing, Lonnie was an Engineer/Operator with 30 years
of service to HFD.
Lonnie
has been a member of the Houston chapter since May 5, 1998
and was member number #376. He had made several trips to Sturgis
and to Camp Janus. In 2000, the Houston chapter honored Lonnie's
efforts by dedicating the annual burn run to his memory. The
"Lonnie Kerr - Camp Janus Burn Run" is in its sixth
year.
Anyone
wishing to make a donation to Camp Janus in memory of Lonnie,
can do so by sending a check to W&F MC-Houston, 1243 Pinecroft,
