Camp Janus 2005

First, what held you back from attending the 2005 Lonnie Kerr Burn Run? Whatever the reason, you missed a great time with a good bunch of kids who have had a hard time in life. The members of Wind & Fire MC-Houston and a lot of special friends provided a day of compassion and love for these kids. This year our attendance was down a bit maybe due to a bad weather forecast and a holiday weekend. We started out with a lot of sunshine and ended up with a little rain. This year Camp Janus provided us with camp T-shirts before the run so we could all arrive wearing the same color shirt. It looked pretty cool, all in one color shirt. After the arrival of 24 bikes and 35 people, we had lunch with the kids while the motorcycles cooled off. During this time we have the opportunity to visit with the kids on a one to one basis and share their thoughts and feelings. This year we gave each camper a red fleece throw with the W&F logo and Camp Janus 2005 embroidered on the corners and as always, a W&F-MC Gold Coin. Our campaign this year to raise money for Camp Janus was a great success. With our private contributions, the sell of W&F patches/pins, the sale of fleece throws and the riders contributions we raised $8344.30…WOW! After the cost of the blankets and embroidery, we presented Mark Shiver-Director of Camp Janus, $6626.10; this is still a good chunk of change! Later, Mark presented Wind & Fire MC-Houston with a beautiful glass sculpture plaque for our dedicated support to the Lonnie Kerr-Camp Janus Burn Run, it’s awesome, thank you. Finally, what the kids have waited all day for, picture time. Each camper gets his/her picture taken on the motorcycle of their choice. This is such a big hit because they get the pictures right then and there. After all the pictures are taken, hugs & goodbyes said, its time for the kids to get back on camp schedule and time for us to go home. Love you guys, see you next year.

Time to thank the people involved in making the ride a success: Wind & Fire MC (California) for the clubs Gold Coins; The Riddle Company (N. Carolina) for the fleece throws; PDQ Corporate Marketing Inc. (Sugar Land) for the embroidery and Richard Stegall–State Farm Ins. Camp Janus Thank You Letters...

My son JJ just came home from camp janus and talked all the way home about all the fun he had while there. I just wanted to thank you for all that you do for the burn children. It meens so much to all of us.

Thank You!
Ruth Guerra

I would like to thank everyone in your organization...my son has been going to Camp Janus for 8 years and it has been a wonderful experience for him without the help from so many wonderful people such as yourself my son may not have experienced such a wonderful time with children in the same situation as himself. It helps when you can relate to other children that have also been burned as the children that have not are very cruel and tease children such as my son....so this is a place he has felt comfortable and he has made some wonderful friendships from Camp Janus!!

Thanks again for supporting such a wonderful place!!

Camp Janus 2004

The Lonnie Kerr-Camp Janus Burn Run gets better every year. This year we started an early registration with our release form posted on the web. Even with stragglers, this helped us tremendously on the day of the ride. Next year we're hoping for 100% pre-registration. The release form is a very important document. It protects our chapter/club and is required by the international by-laws.

We hade great weather for the ride even though we had to plan a short detour, due to construction. Jimmie Sanders, Mark Shriver and Shawn Devine met us close to Greenvine for the ride in. We had a total of 38 bikes, 52 riders and three Wind & Fire chapters.

This year, we decided to give the kids red backpacks with our Wind & Fire logo on the front. In addition, we also gave Camp Janus a photo printer. For those of you who did not attend this year's burn run, you missed a very special event. Besides giving money to the camp, we had and have the opportunity to make a child/teenager feel loved and that there are people out there that really care about them. These kids really look forward to us coming back every year. You may think this isn't a big deal, but you ought to see their faces when they get to sit on the motorcycles. Not only sitting on the motorcycles brings excitement to them, being around people that really care about them really brightens their day.

After arriving at camp, Camp Janus fed the kids and us. Yum, Yum... We had a great time eating and visiting with the kids. After lunch we made a couple of announcements before giving Mark Shriver (Camp Director) this year's contribution. We introduced a surprise guest, Jerry Eibert, Founder of Wind & Fire MC - Santa Barbara chapter who came from California to ride with us. Riding with us again is Don & Gwen Prescott from the Rocky Mountain chapter - Colorado. Our next announcement went to Randy Fairless. Because of Randy's generous contributions to our chapter, Camp Janus and to his community we presented him with our "Colors" and made him an Honorary Chapter Member.

Since we decided to give the kids backpacks and a Camp Janus Photo printer, we started our contribution campaign early and we were able to raise $4,730. From rider fees, patch/pin/backpack sales and private contributions, we were able to give a total of $7,049.17 to Camp Janus, WOW!!

I would like to thank all of our contributors.
