The sole purpose of this web site is to allow me to document my quest to break the 5 minute mile. Let me begin by pointing out that it is a task which I had already accomplished at the age of 14. Over the course of a 6 year long-distance running career, that mile time reached a personal best of 4 minutes and 26 seconds. Why then, you may ask, am I on a quest to do something which I have already done quite handily. My answer is simple. It has been 10 years since I quit running. Now, at the age of 30 and with an additional 35 lbs of weight on the same frame, I have found myself looking back at the past and seeing someone who is not me. I can recite the times, recall the races and even remember the songs I listened to in preparation for the meets throughout those years... but I am a no longer that athlete. In the year 2006, I am hoping to regain some of what has been lost. Since I am without a coach and team, my running must begin as an individual effort. My successes and failures from this point on are nobody's but my own. And with that, I welcome you to share in my experiences as this challenge unfolds.
