PUB OF THE MONTH SATURDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2008.
STANNING FIELD RED HOUSE;-
Neil and Amanda Thompson only took over the Red House in Stanningfield 10 months ago after it was due to be closed but already they have improved and decorated the public areas. The owner was selling this village pub as a residential house at the time but due to pressure from CAMRA is now the centre of the village again with music being performed there on some Saturday nights.
There were 3 beers - Wychwoods Dirty Tackle, Woodfordes Wherry and Greene King IPA, and some lovely sandwiches on offer on Saturday 9th February when West Suffolk CAMRA members paid them a visit along with chairman Kevin Waterson to give them their certificate.
February Pub of the Month presentation trip.
Saturday 9th February saw the West Suffolk Branch on tour. Starting at Stanningfield Red House which was proudly displaying the new pub of the month banner.Billy had organised a local run which took us into neighbouring Lawshall for the Swan which was offering Hook Norton, Old Hookey alongside GK IPA and Hardy & Hansons.
Next stop Shimpling Bush where the Woodfordes Wherry was a popular choice and some also chose to have a bit to eat. The afternoon was whiled away in Long Melford. With plenty of choice of pubs, we were surprised when there was a request from some ladies in the party to be picked up from a dress shop where a sale had been spotted. Bargains in hand we continued to Lavenham visiting the Angel and the Greyhound. We finished our grand tour at the wonderful National inventory of pubs listed Cock in Brent Eleigh. It was encouraging to be offered such a large range of beers, during the afternoon we counted up 8 Brewerys and 12 Beers.
