he club's Wednesday meets are now taking place in Westhoughton Pool for the winter, starting at 20:00. The intention is to run two 45 minute sessions, but if it looks like we will be busy we have the option to change to three 30 minute sessions to give everyone a chance as we are only allowed ten boats in the pool at once. Other than this we will apply the simple first-come, first-served rule we introduced last year, see the pool rules HERE. As with our summer meets, we ask any prospective members to please get in touch using the email link at the left to make arrangements. Remember that the intention of our pool meets is to allow members and newcomers to practice in a comfortable environment and to continue to meet on Wednesdays during winter. They are costed to break even, not to make a profit for the club; the charge is to cover your time in the pool, not formal teaching. Instruction is however usually freely available from the club's volunteer coaches who are there because they enjoy passing on their skills, and because the pool management requires coaches to be present. Please treat the pool sessions in this way - as a social and informal event where you can practice, supported by the coaches (who will also want a chance to play!). There will continue to be at least one weekend paddle each month, usually on the second weekend but not always, and actual details may be finalised nearer the date due to water conditions, so ask around, or best of all, use the forum. These are usually white water trips, although there will also be some more tranquil outings throughout the year . See below for our plans, some tentative, for as far as next summer. Anyone who needs to borrow a boat or gear for any event please get in touch with as much notice as possible. Club trips are aimed
at different levels of paddling ability - speak to the organiser
of a trip if you’re not sure of its suitability for yourself. As we’re
a small club, it won’t always be possible to cover all moving water
events with a coach or leader who holds the “official” qualifications
to lead the trip as deemed appropriate by the BCU. Bearing this in mind,
and while you can and should take advice, in all cases it is your own
decision as to whether you participate in any particular event.
