Final Letter from President Juan Arriaga

6 January 2010

Dear West End Residents,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you West End: Civic Club board members, club members and community, for your help and support while I held the position of President of the West End Civic Club, Inc. I would like to specially thank Ms. Vanessa Yeomans for helping in getting the city's attention in our quest to better the West End park, Nick Urbano in establishing and maintaining our website, www.freewebs.com/westendcivicclub/, and Barbara Oliver for mentoring and guiding me during my tenure. It was a great honor and pleasure to serve you all.

Together we have seen, in my opinion, both positive, and not so positive changes in our community, including the "Welcome to West End" sign, plans for the beautification of the West End park, the Quiet Zone and unfortunately the closure of half of our railroad crossings towards Washington Ave. and parking issues. Other plans in the near horizon that we did not have a direct say in are: the feeder roads along I-10 between Patterson and Yale and the detention ponds on the NW corner of West End.

My future civic plans are to continue being active in the community, but in a smaller capacity. I plan on attending most of the monthly club meetings and also make myself available to the new administration for any help that I may be able to provide.

My farewell recommendations are: for the club to keep us informed of happenings in West End so that WE, the community, can make informed decisions, and for the community to wave at each other as a gesture of acknowledgement and friendship.

Again, thank you and Happy New Year
Juan Arriaga
