Young mothers are judged and stereotyped everyday. Here are most of the commons stereotypes -
This is all a load of RUBBISH. It may apply to some young mothers but it also applies to older mothers as well.
My son was an accident as the father wouldn't wear protection but I was in a long-term relationship with the father and we broke up about 3 weeks before I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant.
I didn't give a damn about the money, I mean big whoop, the government gave me $4000, that is enough to buy the essential things that new born babies need but after that you got to buy formula, nappies, wipes, new clothes etc. plus pay for doctors.
Since my son was born 11 weeks ago, I have left him with other people 7 times and only on one of these occasions did I go to the pub and that was to celebrate my brother in law's birthday. I have never left with any one for longer than 4 hours.
My son is always clean, clothed, fed, healthy, looked after and most importantly my son is always LOVED!!!! He gets everything he needs to be healthy, he gets lots of hugs, he gets read to and he has alot of people around that love him especially me and his step dad.
There are times when he won't stop crying and I feel like tearing my hair out but I have never ever laid a finger on my child and I don't intend to!!! I have never let anyone else lay a finger on him either.
The whole idea of this site is to get people to stop judging us and give us the respect that they give alot of older mums. Older mums that are single with children and working to support their family but still have enough time to care for their children properly are treated like heroes but there are alot of young mums who do the exact same thing but are treated horrible because of their age. I am sick of it and I think it's about time we start demanding our rights. We have as much rights as any other mother out there.
