Since Let's Dance IX in 2007, pupils at Wootton Bassett School of Dance have, between them, passed over 260 ballet, tap and modern examinations.  Musical Theatre pupils also took and passed over 50 exams, with Rebecca Foxwell, Rebecca Munton and Samantha Taylor gaining their Music Theatre Grade 6 and Becci Smith gaining Grade 8.  Grade 6 onwards qualify as UCAS points towards University admission.  The school has also helped raise over £2000 for charity by performing in concerts.

CONCERT IN AID OF ZASLOWYA - July 2009 The Musical Theatre classes teamed up with The Happy Childhood Singers from Belarus to create a rich and varied program of songs in English and Russian, together with beautiful song and dance routines from the dance school and accomplished instrumentals from the Belarussian children, including an amazing performance on a cymbali (dulcimer) that had the dancers cheering in the wings.  A collection was taken to purchase musical instruments for children from families and orphanages in Zaslowya, which was badly affected by the fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

WESTON JUNIOR ARTS FESTIVAL - May 2009 Congratulations to all the dancers at this festival.  Placings were as follows: Lilyella Bennett - 2nd National solo. 2nd Song and Dance. Chloe Moore - 3rd Song and Dance solo, 3rd National Duet. Katherine Georgiou - 3rd National Duet, Laura Young - 3rd Greek Solo, Sapphire Colpus - 2nd Ballet solo, 1st Modern solo, 2nd National solo, Rhianna Colpus - 3rd National solo, 3rd Song and Dance solo, 1st Greek solo, Jemma Lynch - 1st Baby Cabaret, 2nd Baby Classical, Eleanor Hatcher - 3rd Baby Cabaret, 3rd Baby Classical, Holly Fagarasan - 3rd National solo, 2nd National duet, Hayley Gough - 2nd National duet, Lucy McClymont - 3rd National duet, Hope Flack - 3rd National Duet.

Jemma Lynch was also awarded the Baby Cup for the highest mark in the baby sections.

Charity Concert in aid of Zaslowya Project - May 2009.  The Musical Theatre classes took part in a concert in Wootton Bassett Methodist Church, alongside other musicians and singers, to raise money for the Zaslowya project.  The beautiful acoustics showed off the fantastic standard of singing that Fiona Fleet has brought about in the Saturday classes; with excellent solos from Rebecca, Georgina and her sister Becci among others.  Congratulations to everyone on your brilliant performances of Peter Pan and 101 Dalmatian numbers.

Charity Show for Arthritis Research Campaign

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the dance school's charity show SPRING SPECTACULAR for ARC on 9th February, which raised over £1,000 for Arthritis Research.  Special thanks to Miss Kate and Vikki for putting together the new dances, to Mrs Fleet for the Musical Theatre content and for being the accompanist on the night, and to Mark Fleet and Ian Dyer for providing the excellent sound and lighting.  And also a special thank you to all the dancers who put in the hard work and practice to make the show a big success. You were fantastic!

Music Theatre Exam Results. The first examinations for the Musical Theatre classes were held in December 2006. The results were as follows: GRADE ONE - Katy Widnall, Distinction; Katherine Georgiou, Distinction; Katy Bloxam, Distinction; Kate Bartlett, Distinction. GRADE THREE - Rebecca Munton, Distinction; Megan Payne, Distinction; Rebecca Foxwell, Distinction. GRADE FIVE - Samantha Taylor, Distinction.  Congratulations to all the candidates, and a big thank you to teachers Fiona Fleet and Miss Kate. Our first examination results turned out to be a clean sweep, with everyone achieving a distinction.

2006 Prizegiving Evening - well done everyone who achieved exam success, awards and trophies during the past year!

Beauty for Brokenness: The concert on 11th November in aid of The Leprosy Mission raised £312 in the retiring collection.  Congratulations to the musical theatre group on an excellent performance (and hand jive tutorial!)

WESTON MERCURY WRITE-UP FOR THE FESTIVAL - ALL PLACES INCLUDED!

THE TILEHURST FESTIVAL, BERKSHIRE, April 2006. Many more dancers attended this festival due to the cancellation of the Cotswold Festival, with great success, with 21 dancers gaining first places, 11 obtaining seconds and 9 achieving thirds. WALES & WEST CECCHETTI BALLET AWARDS 4th Feb 2006 - The following awards went to our dancers: Junior Section Winner ... Emma Burois; Runner-up ... Lydia Dinsmore.  The Vacani Award went to Chloë Airey.  Middle Section Winner ... Beth Airey; Runner-up ... Ellena Foxwell.  The Musicality Award went to Rebecca Foxwell, and the Joy of Dance Award went to Megan Payne.  Congratulations to all!

MABEL RYAN BALLET AWARDS - Congratulations to Sally Fowler who was one of the runners-up in the Mabel Ryan Ballet Awards in London in March 2006.  Sally was one of the top 4 out of 63 competitors.

ACHIEVEMENTS & AWARDS 2005

EXAMINATIONS - Since the last Show in May 2004 there have been over 250 Ballet, Tap and Modern examinations. Emily Croucher, Emma Rowe, Emily German and Victoria Lawrence all passed their first major exam - namely Intermediate Foundation Ballet. Emily, Emma, Emily all gained Merit and Vicky gained Distinction.

FESTIVALS 2005 - Medals and places were won by a large number of our pupils and many also won cups at the various festivals - Louise Burois won the Baby Cup at Swindon, Rebecca Foxwell, Charley Large and Victoria Lawrence won the Classical Trio Cups at Weston and Longwell Green. Victoria and Emma Rowe won the Classical Duet Cup at Tilehurst and both the Classical and Cabaret Duet Cups at Longwell Green. Victoria also won the Senior Greek and Lyrical Cups at Tilehurst. Ellena Foxwell won the Junior Greek Cups at both Weston and Longwell Green. Samantha Oliver and Charley Large won the National Duet Cup at Longwell Green and Beth Airey retained the Disco/Aero Cup at Longwell Green for the second year running.

WALES AND SOUTH WEST CECCHETTI BALLET AWARDS, Nov 2004 - We had great success at this competition. Beth Airey was the winner of the Junior Section, Sally Fowler, Chloe Airey and Lauren Gibbens were all joint runners up. Lydia Dinsmore won the Musicality award and Bethany Richards won the Joy of Dance Award. In the Intermediate section, Rebecca Foxwell won the Musicality Award.  In the Senior section, Victoria Lawrence was the runner up.

In March 2005 many pupils took part in the London Mabel Ryan Ballet Awards. They all danced well, and Ellena Foxwell was one of the finalists in the Lower Junior section and Victoria and Megan were Commended in the Middle Award class.         


CECCHETTI ASSOCIATES - Victoria Lawrence has been joined by Charley Large, Ellena Foxwell and Sally Fowler attending classes at the Arts Educational School in London.  Megan Payne enjoyed a very busy year as a Cecchetti Scholar attending classes every fortnight taken by eminent teachers of the Cecchetti method. We also sent a number of pupils for the Welsh auditions and all were accepted as Associates - namely Beth and Chloe Airey, Katy Bloxham, Emma Burois, Rebecca Munton, Victoria Lawrence, Rebecca Foxwell and Megan Payne.

ALL ENGLAND DANCE FINAL -All those competing at the Regional Finals in Paignton in June  won medals in their sections and Rebecca Foxwell, Victoria Lawrence and Charley Large also qualified and competed in the Finals at the Sadlers Wells Peacock Theatre, London in July.

EXAMINATIONS - Since the last Show there have been over 150 Ballet, Tap and Modern examinations. Sian Miles passed her Intermediate Tap exam and Sally Fowler gained an amazing 99% in her Standard One Ballet exam.

FESTIVALS - During the last year we have entered the British Federation of Dance Festivals at Swindon, Bristol, Longwell Green and Weston-Super-Mare. Medals and places were won by Emma Rowe, Megan Payne, Victoria Lawrence, Ellena Foxwell, Rebecca Munton, Hayley Dalrymple, Sian Miles, Sally Fowler, Katy Bloxham, Charley Large, Alice Davey, Hope Flack, Rebecca Foxwell, Beth Airey, Naomi Watson, Hannah Evans, Victoria Evans. Francesca Evans, Isobel Thomas, Emma Burois, Lydia Dinsmore and Lily Hurley.

Hope Flack has had great success at recent festivals winning the Baby Cup at Swindon Festival in February and the Baby Cup at Bristol Festival in April this year.

WALES AND SOUTH WEST CECCHETTI BALLET AWARDS - We had great success at this competition in November 2003 by winning six out of the twelve awards. Ellena Foxwell was the winner of the junior section and also picked up the Musicality Award.  In the junior section, Lauren Gibbens won the Joy of Dance Award, and as teacher Miss Kate  was awarded a bronze statue (see below) of a dancer. In the middle section, Megan Payne won the Musicality Award and Charley Large won the Joy of Dance Award. Naomi Watson, Rebecca Foxwell, Samantha Oliver and Rebecca Munton were commended, and Hannah Evans received special mention. In the senior section, Victoria Lawrence won the Joy of Dance Award and Emma Rowe was commended.

In April 2004 Lauren Gibbens, Beth Airey and Victoria Lawrence took part in the London Mabel Ryan Ballet Awards. They all danced well, and Victoria was commended in the Junior Award class.

CECCHETTI ASSOCIATES - Victoria Lawrence, Megan Payne and Charley Large enjoyed another year attending classes at the Arts Educational School in London.

ALL ENGLAND DANCE FINAL - Sian Miles and Hayley Dalrymple won the regional finals of the All England Dance Competition in Paignton during June last year with their Georgian duet and this qualified them to compete in the Finals at the Sadlers Wells Peacock Theatre, London in July.

The Vacani Award - presented to Kathryn Lawrence as the teacher of Lauren Gibbens - winner of the Junior Section of the Wales and West Cecchetti Ballet (Joy of Dance) - November 2003.
