THE WAY OF THE VAMPIRE
Directed By Canella Williams
Running Time 20 Minutes
I have to admit that with the amount of films I watch, I cringe when I
see a vampire flick whether it is full length or something short like
this one. The vampire genre has literally been done to death.
Sometimes you get a change of pace like STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN AT
SUNDOWN or BLOODSUCKING REDNECK VAMPIRES. Those films realize that
they're treading on strip-mined ground and yet they manage to pull a
gem or two from the wreckage. In the case of THE WAY OF THE VAMPIRE
the gem may not be very big, but a gem is a gem. Seems there are these
two brothers who are vampires. One is the domineering, hunter type
while his brother is a sissy. To make matters worse the sissy has
managed to fall in love with a girl. A human girl. It's time for the
sissy to show some backbone before his new ladylove becomes lunch. And
if he can rid himself of his brother, then life will be better. Right?
THE WAY OF THE VAMPIRE reminds me of a horror version of a sketch done
by The Kids In The Hall. It was the one where Kevin Macdonald's
character gave off pheromones that made everyone mistreat him.
Director Williams has managed to do something original with the
vampire genre without straying from the traditional path that has been
laid down by her peers. I think she has a bright future in infusing
new ideas into the hoary realm of horror.
