While the mares and stallions at Wavin' K are the forefront of the horse program at Wavin' K, it would be crazy to leave out the rest of the boys, the ones who get 'r done in the arena and at the ranch. So, this page is dedicated to the boys.
"There's nothin in life worth doin' if it can't be done from a horse..." - Red Steagall
Yeller is a georgous palomino APHA breeding stock gelding that we raised. He is by The Smart Smoke, check out his pedigree here. I can't say enough good things about this horse, he has been there done that, and won it all. He was a 2D barrel horse, 21 second pole horse, reined/working cow horse, numerous halter championships, 4-H championships. He was a 3x NHSFR qualifier and CNFR qualifier in breakaway roping. Won thousands of dollars heeling and breakaway roping in his career. He is a machine, and one of the most honest and reliable horses I'll ever swing a leg over.
An unfortunate accident to his knee left him unsuitable for heavy hauling, so he slowed down a bit to heal, and now he is owned by the Grant family, and little Rayne took the reins. She does Jr. Rodeo and many other competitions on him, look out world, these two are hard to beat!!
Clancy is the paint wonder, 16 year old APHA gelding! He is very accomplished inside the arena and out. He was purchased as a 3 yr old and trained right here at Top Hatt. He has been used as a ranch and snubbing horse, and is tough. He is a heading, heeling, and breakaway horse. He has won thousands heading and breakaway at all levels of competition. In breakaway, he was back up horse for 3x NHSFR qualifier, CNFR qualifier, and was ridden to a CNFR Womens Team National Championship, as well as Central Rocky Mountain reserve champion breakaway roper and champion womens team. But, it doesn't end there! Clancy is still being competed on, and now an 8 yr old girl, Sharlyn, is barrel racing on him.
He is a great horse that gives no less than 110% every time the gate opens.
"Cat" is another guy who has been there done that in many different areas. He is a son of High Brow Cat, check out his pedigree here - it doesn't get any better than this! He came from Texas as a 2 yr old stallion started cutting. We showed him for a couple years, gelded him, and started running barrels and poles on him, and shortly after we started roping on him. He is a finished head and heel horse, been to the WRA Finals heading and won hundreds at open rodeos and jackpots. He was also breakaway roped on, and won many jackpots. Now, we have started cutting on him again and are looking forward to many more accomplishments!
Bubba is my go to guy. He is a well bred 14 year old AQHA gelding, Zan Parr Bar and Azure Te breeding, click here for pedigree. He was a tie down horse before we bought him from Tom McGuire. He didn't like that much anymore, so we went to team roping on him, and he is probably one of the nicest heading horses I've ever ridden. He rates, faces, and handles a steer like none other. He is fast, and fun to ride. Bubba heels and breakaway ropes too, and he is a 1D barrel horse! He is solid as the day is long, and a joy to ride inside and outside of the arena.
Peanut is a good looking bay gelding by Flipmia and out of a Smart Little Lena mare, half sister to Yeller, see his pedigree here. He was barrel futuritied as a 5 yr old and competed on since then, he is one of the fastest horses I've ridden! He has explosive speed and a super hard stop. He has been heeled on and is in training for breakaway, and man is he nice! From former cutting training, he is super cowy and responsive to cattle, combine that with his speed and stop, you can guess he is going to be great!
Conoco is an old 'war horse' in the cutting pen. He has life time earnings in the NCHA of over $23,000 not including high school rodeo and other jackpots. He is a 4x NHSFR qualifier, and numerous qualifications to the NCHA National Western Championships. He is owned by my sister Kara, and she has won buckles, trophies, and saddles on him. He is now 23 years young and still going strong, looks outstanding, and he will be shown this winter too. He is a testiment to what good conformation means, he has out lasted and out shined all his competition.
Flip is a well bred bay AQHA gelding, another horse sired by Flipmia out of a Doc O Lena mare, see his pedigree here. He was raised here and trained by Traci. He had many accomplishments in cutting, with earnings in the NCHA of over $9,000 and many thousands more in high school and jackpots. He was 3x NHSFR Qualifier and 2x top ten. He qualified many times to the NCHA Western Nationals. Flip injured his pelvis, so could no longer cut, and now he is in Nebraska with a wonderful family and is ridden by their 5 yr old son. He gave us a long time of wonderful experiences, and now it's another boy's turn.
Socks is a kind gentle giant of a horse, he was a multi event horse and has a lot of earnings to his name in all levels of competition from high school to open to college and up. He is a solid head, heel, and breakaway horse. He is a 1D barrel horse and 20 second pole horse. He also was used as a goat tying horse! Socks won many hundreds of dollars for us, and he is now owned by my good friend Jessica Johnson and is her main breakaway horse.
