WATERHEAD 12-22 WIDNES ST MARIES

Waterhead took on last seasons league champions and put up a great effort, following the 1st minute injury to captain Matthew Moores who was taken to hospital by ambulance and unfortunately he has broken his leg. For the firts 30 minutes waterhead had most of the possesion but were unable to capitalise on their domination with Chris Charlesworth being held up over the line. As half time approached a quick break down thw Widnes left saw them race into the lead from deep within their half. Directly from the kick off Widnes scored again down the same side with some great handling and a penalty on half time saw them lead 14-0 at the break.

Waterhead needed to score first and with Widnes kicking the ball out on the full from the re-start it gave Waterhead the platform to mount and attack and with Daniel Whitmore moving to hooker he barged his way over from acting half back to pull back the score Joe Ford added the extras to make it 14-6. Widnes then scored 2 unconverted tries to take a 22-6 lead before Whitmore again scored following some great handling from the forwards combining well with the backs Ford again added the extras. With Whitmore and Toft breaking down the middle as the holes began to open in the Widnes defence Waterhead pushed for the next score but with time running out they were unable to trouble the scoreboard again. All the lads performed well and as they gel it again promises to be a great season.

LEIGH EAST 22-4 WATERHEAD

Waterhead travelled to Leigh looking to get their season started with a win but in a very poor performance got what they deserved from the game nothing. Andrew Marshall scored the only try of the game in a man of the match performance with Joe Ford, Matthew Bland, Jack Burns and Jamie Barnes also putting in good performances more needs to come from all the players if the season isn't to turn into a long hard slog.

 WATERHEAD 12-22 WEST HULL

Waterhead again started off slowly to se West Hull race into a 16-0 lead coming up to half time before Jack Burns finished off some good approach work from the forwrds with a try just before half time to which Joe Ford added the extras. 15 mins into the second half Ashley McGiffen dived in at the corner with Ford gain adding the extras from the touch line and Waterhead looked to be back in the game. With a litle more composure Waterhead maybe could have salvaged something from the game but with time running out a great inside ball from the West Hull 6 sent the number 15 racing to the line to put the game beyond doubt for the Humbersiders.

CASTLEFORD LOCK LANE 6-16 WATERHEAD

Waterhead picked up their first win of the season over in Yorkshire with a workman like performance, in a game they never looked like losing.
The scoring was started by Ashley Dixon who latched onto a clever kick from scrum half Danny Whitmore to put Waterhead 4-0 up. Shortly after Whitmore stepped his way through the Lock Lane defence to score close to the posts and give Michael Bennett the first of his 2 conversions. 10-0 half time
From the kick off Waterhead were caught out and had to drop out from under the posts from which Castleford scored a try with the extras added.
Again Waterhead marched down field and a lovely ball from Whitmore sent Andy Marshall racing to the line to give a comfortable 10 point cushion that they never looked like losing and comfortably saw out the remaining time

WATERHEAD 14-10 WIGAN ST PATRICK'S

Waterhead made it 2 wins on the bounce has they followed up last weeks win at Castleford with a hard fought win over St Pats. Wigan got the first try of the match with a well worked try in the corner which went unconverted. Waterhead quickly hit back when birthday boy Ashley McGiffen raced down the flank to pull it all level at 4-4 which is how it stood at the half time break.
Wigan again took the lead, despite being down to 12 men after their prop was sent off for kicking, with a try from the hooker who stepped his way over the line to make it 10-4. Again Waterhead roared back with McGiffen adding his second try with another 30 yard spectacular with Joe Ford adding the 2 points 10-10. Waterhead tried to force the game and to many handling erors looked like giving Saints a share of the spoils until debut boy Vinny Finnegan scored in the corner to put Waterhead in front for the first time. A try saving tackle from prop forward Matthew Bland as he held up the Pats player over the line was the last throw of the dice from Pat's and Waterhead never looked like relinquishing that lead as they ran the clock down forcing St Pats deep into their half  with a good kicking game.

WATERHEAD 14-32 LEIGH MINERS RANGERS

Waterhead came out second best in this bruising encounter despite playing some great rugby defencive frailties resulted in defeat.

INCE ROSE BRIDGE 12-44 WATERHEAD

Waterhead achieved the result that their performances over the last few weeks have deserved with some great tries scored and a massive defensive effort that ensured this big win.
Jordan Pye starting on the wing got the scoreboard ticking with the first try that was goaled off the touchline by Joe Ford. Ince drew level following 2 needlesss penalties that piggy backed them down the field. Nigel Scott restored the lead quickly with a great try but agan a lack of discipline saw Ince draw level again. Scott again restored the lead following a series of ricochets in the in goal area from his grubber kick that saw the ball finish up at his feet for a fortunate try Ford added his third goal to see Waterhead lead 18-12 at half time. a great 40-2- from Scott saw Waterhead gain great field position and Vinny Finnegan scored at the side of the posts. Finnegan made a great break from a scrum in Waterhead's 10 metre area drew the full back and sent Danny Whitmore flying in at the corner to put Waterhead 30-12 up with 10 mins remaining. Chris Charlesworth pounced on a charge down from Nigel Scott to score his first of the season. Substitute Michael Bennett came off the bench to replace Whitmore and got in on the try scoring spree with a typical hookers try. The final try of the game came when Finnegan again burst clear from deep within his own half and left the Ince players trailing in his wake as he rounded off the scoring with a great try. Once Waterhead had cut out the silly penalties the game was always in their control.
