Battlefleet Models 1/350 YG-17 Garbage Lighter
 |
|
Battlefleet Models has released a
larger version of their excellent 1/700 yard Garbage lighter, and
builds into an impressively detailed model.
The kit's hull is cast as one piece and is very sharply detailed, with
no casting flaws whatsoever. The large hatches on the side are complete
with hinges and the portholes are deep and need no drilling out. I
especially liked the winch on the bow. |

|
| The main superstructure and funnel is also free of flaws and is equally well detailed. The top of the funnel is hollow. |
|
|
| The lifeboat features some nice canvas covering that looks suspicously like tissue paper when painted white. Hmmm....... |
|
|
| Pedestals and hand wheels are
included in the 1/350 YG. Both are nicely done, but the hand wheels may
be hard to remove the their resin wafer. A searchlight is also included. My sample had broken off, the only damage in the kit. |
 |
| Brass rod is included for the masts. |
 |
The instructions are printed in
color and include a variety of photos of the YGs at work and a large
plan and profile lines drawing that is sufficent for this simple kit.

This kit is an excellent
representation and is very highly
recommended. It is available through the Battlefleet website for $25,
not bad for a kit of this quality. No harbor diorama would be complete
without it. I already here that BFM is coming out with a 110' subchaser
in this scale. Can't wait to see it. Now, how about a 1/350 Hog
Islander to match??
