Warner Hall History

Warner Hall House started in 1982. President Spencer of Davidson College approved the house on February 5, 1982 and the house had its first 61 members that following Fall semester. The first president and founder of Warner Hall House, Connie Kyle, decided to name the house after the first senior minister at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, due to his dedication and love for Davidson College. He was very involved and held a position on the Board of Trustees from 1951 until 1986. He has since died, but his wife, Lucy, is still alive at the age of 97.

Warner Hall, our namesake

Since 1982, we have been linking women together through the eternal bonds of friendship. Through service, eating meals, partying, and miscellaneous social functions our house has continued to support this sisterhood. The first members met where the Outpost was once located and in 1991 the house moved to its current location. The Warner Hall girls, in 1982, made themselves famous on campus by their cooks who were twins. Supposedly their recipes were so good that a cookbook can be found in the bookstore of their favorites. Warner Hall has been a strong house from the start with 100% participation in service projects, an annual faculty-Warner member cocktail party, a Luau at the Lake Campus, and a trip on the "Love Boat" on Lake Norman. We are proud to be the only national chapter of Warner Hall in the nation.

Today, we are excited to host numerous court gatherings such as a Hawaiian Party, a Great Gatsby date function, Bungle in the Jungle semiformal, Madonnarama, a Senior Men's Champagne Party, a Valentine's Day Crush Party, St. Patrick's Day Party, our annual service event: Red and Black Ball, and numerous other co-hostings with Fraternities.

Most importantly, Warner Hall is proud to honor Madonna and her talent for writing such inspirational songs, which accompany every dance party. Annually we celebrate our love for her at the "Madonnarama" Party. As well, to remember prohibition of the 1920s and the image of women in that time, Warner Hall also hosts a classy date function inspired by The Great Gatsby.

Beyond the Paterson Court, Warner Hall girls love to have sisterhoods. Our boat sisterhood, North vs. South, and endless dance parties are among our favorite times together.

Our purpose: Warner Hall shall be to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way. We are also to promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the eating house and the college, to develop qualities of unselfish leadership among its members, and to encourage them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of college women.
It is an opportunity and experience of a lifetime!
