If you knit or crochet, or know someone who does, we need your help. The hats will go to various shelters and hospitals who care for the many homeless in the United States & Canada
If you would like to donate hats in your area, that would be great, and you wish to have you hats counted towards our hat project counts, Email us with your counts, for the hats

Lands End will be creating and sharing hat patterns on August 5th, but here are some to get you started, if you can't wait until September or use your own favorite pattern(s).

Q. When is the deadline to send in completed hats?
A. Our goal is to knit as many hats as possible by December 31, 2009.
Q. Where can I send my completed hats?
A. You can either find a local Warming Families group, a homeless shelter or a domestic violence shelter.

Q: I can't knit, but I can crochet, is that OK?
A. Knitted, crocheted and loom knitted hats are all fine. Use your own favorite, warm patterns or dozens of free hat patterns are posted here:

Q: Do hats need to be machine washable?
A: Most homeless people don't have access to washing machines, but hats should be at least hand-washable. If you use 100% wool, please be sure hats are felted before sending.
Q: What sizes are needed?
A: Depending on the shelter, all sizes from 6 months through adult will be needed. Most shelters need men's hats the most though.
Q: Can I use my own yarn?
A: Yes you can
