FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round 13/10/07- Hythe Town 1-3 Ware | Scorers: Stevens, Bardle & Berry

Ware progressed into the 'hat' for 4th round draw on Monday with a mixed performance against Kent Premier outfit Hythe Town. The early stages resulted with the home side on top exploiting Ware's initial slow start to get used to the sticky pitch, with the best chance coming from a cross from the right wing which was headed over Luke Woods' goal. Ware took the lead after 16 minutes when Joe Stevens swung a free kick in from the right, the cross-cum shot floating over the despairing keeper into the top left corner. It was not long until in-form defender, Michael Bardle, found himself on the scoresheet yet again with a tidy run from the centre circle followed with a cool finish that a striker would have been proud of.
In the later stages of the half Steve Horsey had the chance to open the blues lead further but after doing the hard work of rounding the keeper he narrowly missed the target under heavy pressure.

The start of the second half very much followed the tone of the first, with another nervous opening from the travelling side. Mid-way through the half Joe Stevens fired over from close range after good work from Ellerbeck. The midfielder's woe continued after Ware won their first penalty of the encounter, Stevens stepped up but was unable divert it past Paul Hyde who pulled off a good save diving to his left. However it was not so long after that Ware were offered a second bite at the cherry. Chris Ellerbeck's attacking run was brought to an abrupt half by Hyde who could find himself lucky for receiving only a yellow card for his offence. He was not so lucky in his attempt at saving Sam Berry's kick that was driven into the left hand side of the goal. After this there was still time for a Hythe player to receive his marching orders after a stamp in the closing stages, in this time Joe Stevens suffered a nasty incident when he was pushed, albeit legally, into the advertising hoardings receiving a nasty blow to the head for his troubles.

Ware can consider themselves lucky for coming through a not too convincing performance with a win, they will look to improve in the next round where they could potentially face Conference opposition.
